Social Responsibility in Trinidad &

Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago held the first UNDP Regional

Conference on CSR in October 2009

Trinidad and Tobago will be hosting the next Inter-

American Conference for CSR for the Latin America

and the Caribbean in December 2010

Tobago - Government The T&T Government is enhancing the human

capital and entrepreneurship by permitting the

working class to gain access to tertiary education

through the following programmes:

- GATE 128,000 persons;

- MuST 25,000 persons;

- OJT 58,000 persons; and

- Retraining 9,000 persons.

Express needy fund:

- This is funded by citizens through the Trinidadand Tobago Express Company;

- Distributions of the fund is made to the most

neediest case at the given point in time

pollution, e.g. smelter;

- South Eastern Hunting Association promotes

forest conservation (deters deforestation of hills);

and- Environment Tobago.

TTBS Promotion of ISO 26000

Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) is

in Consultation with local and international

stakeholders to arrange workshops which will informthe wider society. Examples:

- Seminars;

- Workshops; and- Radio programmes.

TTBS to host follow-up sessions of workshops

Organize outreach programmes

Visit companies/ organizations to provide some guidance and assistance for a

better understanding of the standard

- Public consultations;

- Networking with entities to establish links;

Issues/constraints in the use of

ISO 26000 in Trinidad & Tobago Not a certifiable standard; lacks motivation by

industry

If it is not accepted by industry, this will prove very

challenging

Smaller companies may be challenged to implement;

some believe that through the supplier chain,

International companies are able to carryout this
