ALL SAINTS DAY

The Church consists of the living and deceased MEMBERS…AND MOST OF HER MEMBERS ARE

DECEASED. Nov. 1 is dedicated to the Saints – all who have attained heaven. Saints include the many unrecognized deceased who may already be in heaven and those recognized by the Church. On Nov. 2 we remember the dead of the Church by our prayer, alms giving and the Mass asking

their release from purgatory. Our Lord tells us that praying for the dead is an obligation. Remember, our destination of Hope is Heaven. Heaven is Love – total, prefect LOVE. In Heaven, there is need for faith, for we will see God face-to-face. There is need for Hope, for all hope will be fulfilled. Love will remain forever. And Heaven is Love… God is Love.

DIA DE TODOS LOS SANTOS

La Iglesia se compone miembros vivos y difuntos... Y la mayoría de sus miembros son fallecidos.

El primero de noviembre está dedicado a los Santos - todos los que han alcanzado el cielo. Los Santos incluyen aquellos difuntos que no han sido reconocidos y que ya pueden estar en el cielo y los reconocidos por la Iglesia. El 2 de noviembre recordamos a los fieles difuntos de la Iglesia a través de nuestra oración,

limosna y la Misa pidiendo su liberación del purgatorio. Nuestro Señor nos dice que la oración por los difuntos es una obligación. Recuerden, nuestro destino de esperanza es el Cielo. El cielo es el amor – total, AMOR prefecto.

En el cielo, no hay necesidad de la fe, pues veremos a Dios cara a cara. No hay necesidad de esperanza, porque se cumplirá toda esperanza. El Amor permanecerá por siempre. Y el cielo es amor... Dios es Amor.

SHARING OUR GIFTS

A Parish Campaign

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

As you may know, our parish is currently conducting the Sharing Our Gifts campaign.

The concept of this campaign is straightforward: I ask you to consider increasing your regular offertory in order

to continue to keep our parish strong. A successful campaign does not mean that the church bills are paid on-

time. A successful campaign means that we are able to look into the future and share in the construction of a

new, modern Church of St. John Chrysostom.

Imagine for a moment, an elevator on 167th Street that can carry the elderly or those bound by a

wheelchair to Mass in the upper church. Imagine a bathroom upstairs near the entrance doors of the upper

church. Imagine a lower church hall – equipped with the most modern technology and sound system – where

Faith Formation and Bible study classes, as well as, inter-parish youth gatherings can be held.

With a modern lower church hall, the sick and homebound will be to attend Sunday Mass and

participate in our retreats and parish events.

Participating in this strengthening campaign is simple:

1. Indicate your new offertory contribution on the enclosed envelope.

2. Bring the envelope to Mass this coming weekend and use it instead of your regular envelope.

I hope that all parishioners will sincerely consider participating in the Sharing Our Gifts campaign. Our parish’s

expenses are substantial, but so too is the spirit that holds us together. I appreciate all that you do for our

parish community.

COMPARTIENDO NUESTROS DONES Una Campaña Parroquial

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

Como quizás ya sabrán, actualmente nuestra parroquia está llevando a cabo la campaña Compartiendo

Nuestros Dones. El concepto de la campaña es sencillo: Les pido que considere aumentar su ofrenda para poder

continuar fortaleciendo nuestra parroquia. Una campaña exitosa no significa simplemente que nuestros

presupuestos estén balanceados. Una campaña exitosa significa que miremos hacia el futuro, y visualicemos la

construcción de una nueva y moderna iglesia de San Juan Crisóstomo.

Imagínese por un momento, un ascensor en la calle 167 para los ancianos o aquellos discapacitados y

minusválidos. Imagínese un baño cerca de las puertas en la entrada de la iglesia superior. Imagínese un salón

en la iglesia inferior, equipado con la más moderna tecnología y sistema de sonido – donde la formación de Fe y

clases de estudio bíblico, así como, reuniones inter-parroquiales juveniles puedan llevarse a cabo.

Con un salón moderno en la iglesia baja, los enfermos y minusválidos podrán asistir a la misa

dominical y participar en nuestros retiros y eventos parroquiales.

Es sencillo participar en esta campaña de fortalecimiento:

1. Indique su nueva contribución en el sobre adjunto.

2. Traiga el sobre a misa este próximo fin de semana y utilícelo en vez de su sobre regular

solo esta vez.

Espero que todos los feligreses consideren sinceramente participar en la campaña Compartiendo Nuestros

Dones. Los gastos de nuestra parroquia son muchos, pero el espíritu que nos une es aún más grande. Aprecio

ALL SOULS DAY

On Mon., Nov. 2 at 7pm we will be celebrating an All Souls Mass in the lower Church.

Please come and join us in praying for those who have passed away from our parish

this past year and before. The 9am Spanish Mass will be celebrated.

November is traditionally a time we pray for our deceased loved ones.

All Souls Remembrance Envelopes are available in the rear of the church.

Please list your loved ones names on the envelope and place in the collection with your

$5 gift. The envelopes will remain near the altar during Masses in November.

TODO EL DÍA ALMAS

El lunes, 2 de noviembre a las 7 pm celebraremos la Santa Misa en honor a todos los

fieles difuntos en la Iglesia de abajo. Por favor, vengan y unámonos en oración por los

miembros de nuestra parroquia que fallecieron el año pasado y antes. La misa en

español de las 9am se celebrara.

Noviembre es tradicionalmente un tiempo en el que oramos por nuestros seres

queridos fallecidos. Sobres de conmemoración de los fieles difuntos están disponibles

en la parte de atrás de la iglesia. Por favor escriba los nombres de sus seres queridos

en el sobre y deposítelos en la colecta con su donación de $5.

Los sobres permanecerán cerca del altar durante las misas en noviembre.

Let us thank God for Roger Velasquez, who has accepted God's invitation to the priesthood of Jesus Christ. We are grateful that Roger was sent to us to share his journey of faith. As you know, Roger is a seminarian at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers. We trust that Roger enjoyed his visit with us and knows that the community of St. John Chrysostom will always welcome him.
