Bishop's Annual AppealOur Diocese is blessed that there has been an increase in the number of seminarians over the years. Let’s continue to pray for these men as they concentrate on their studies and reflect on how they will one day serve our parishes. They deserve all our support, and one way to show this is by giv-ing to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. The Appeal helps fund the significant financial costs associated with years of room, board, tuition and other related expenses. Your gift today helps prepare our seminarians for the future. For your convenience, you can make an online gift or pledge at www.2018appeal.org. May God bless you for your support!

HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. ReillyThirtieth Sunday in Ordinary TimeOctober 28, 2018

If you would like to be placed on our prayer list please call the parish office.

The second envelope on November 4, 2018 will be for Parish Maintenance.

“Bartimaeus, a blind man, son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.’…Jesus stopped and said, ‘Call him.’…He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ The blind man replied to him ‘Master, I want to see.’ Jesus told him, ‘Go your way, your faith has saved you.’ Immediately he received his sight and followed Him on the way.”The parable of the Good Samaritan told on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. It was a story of compassion. Today we have the meet-ing of Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, that took place on that road. He heard it was Jesus, and called out to Him in his need. The dialogue was simple and clear. What he needed and Jesus’ response. How many other Bartimaeus’ are there in our own time? People, described by Pope Francis as marginalized sitting on the side. They too want to hear of Jesus, cry out to Him in their pain, and seek the compassion, help and mercy of Jesus. It might seem easy, to cross to the other side of the street, to speed up, or ignore the cry. Is that the Christian response? In the mail each day, on the television, there are continued requests for the kindness and mercy of Jesus. The requests for donations grow and the hurts of others tug at our hearts and purse strings. We cannot respond to all requests, but we can as Jesus did. The faith of Bartimaeus restored his sight and he followed Jesus on the way. The hand of Jesus reaching out and responding to one more request can make a big change in the life of someone else.

Every other week starting on Nov. 4th, two ministries will be featured in the bulletin, on the screens, on Facebook, and representatives from each will be on hand after all masses to promote the goals, mission, membership, and activities of each. Please visit them, pray about it, and consider joining one of our terrific ministries.

This past week St. Kateri Parish Blood Drive was again honored by New Jersey Blood Services. We received an award and recognition for collecting the most blood donations in the faith-based blood donor group. This was the highest amount of donations out of all New Jersey churches as well as the highest in the entire New York Blood Center region, including New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley Region. In 2017 our Blood Drive collected 988 units of blood which directly helped close to 3000 people in this area.In addition, their most prestigious award, the Theresa Ragozine IMPACT Award, was given recognition of our volunteers who faithfully and passionately run this drive every month.I am so blessed to be a part of this remarkable ministry, and to work with a delightfully crazy group of volunteers. I am in constant awe of the generosity of the donors to give of themselves so that someone can have another chance to live life to the fullest.Mary Stanek

VIAL OF LIFE

A Free VIAL OF LIFE Kit is available for each household in the gathering area after Mass, the weekend of November 3rd and 4th.

VIAL OF LIFE is a new community improvement project in town, sponsored by the Sparta Woman’s Club. It is designed to aid YOU and Sparta Police, Ambulance Squad and Fire Department personnel in an Emergency Medical Call to your house.

Protect your Family, Protect Yourself!

Minutes, even seconds, count in a Medical Emergency! Your Police and First Responders need to know: what medical or mental health condition(s) you have…what medicines you take…what aller-gies you have…names of your doctors…your age…whom to notify in an emergency, and more! The VIAL OF LIFE Kit is designed to speak for you when you can’t speak for yourself. It provides vital medical information to assist emergency personnel in administering proper medical treatment – and It could save your life.

How does it work? (It’s as easy as one, two, three!)

1. Complete the Medical Form and place it in the VIAL OF LIFE baggie. (If you need additional Medical Forms for family members, feel free to make extra copies of the one included.)

2. Affix the baggie to the front of your refrigerator with the Decal facing forward.

3. Place the second Decal on your front door. (This alerts responding personnel to the fact that your Emergency Information is readily available on the door of your fridge.)

Which Residents may benefit from a Kit? Anyone of any age may benefit…those with medical or mental health conditions, those with allergies, individuals living alone, Senior Citizens, residents with special needs children or adults, even those employing a babysitter or adult care provider, etc.Who may receive a FREE Kit? The Sparta Woman’s Club is providing the kits FREE to Sparta households. How is Vial of Life funded? Funding for the Vial of Life project is provided by the Sparta Woman’s Club and generous contributions from individuals, businesses and other community organizations. To donate, make checks payable to “Sparta Woman’s Club,” earmarked “Vial of Life” (address below). Sparta Woman’s Club is a 501(c)3 organization - contributions are tax deductible.
