The disciples do not understand

Jesus’ second prediction of his

Passion, Death and Resurrection,

and out of fear, they do not question

him about it. The disciples argue

about who’s the greatest and Jesus

teaches those who wish to be first

will be last and will serve others.

Welcoming a child signifies

welcoming Jesus and his Father.

"Who is the greatest in God's kingdom?"

Jesus made a dramatic gesture by embracing a

child to show his disciples who really is the

greatest in the kingdom of God.

Los discípulos no entienden la

segunda predicción de Jesús de su

Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección, y por

miedo, no le preguntan al respecto. Los

discípulos discuten sobre quién es el

más grande y Jesús enseña que aque-

llos que desean ser primeros serán

los últimos y servirán a los demás. Dar

la bienvenida a un niño significa dar la

bienvenida a Jesús y a su Padre.

"¿Quién es el más grande en el reino de Dios?"

Jesús hizo un gesto dramático al abrazar a un niño para

mostrar a sus discípulos quién es el más grande en el

reino de Dios.

As I write this, I am now in Buenos Aires. We started our journey to Argentina by seeing one of the great wonders of the world is the Iguazu Falls. It was an awesome experience for me to see the exquisite beauty of the fall, which started in Brazilian

side, the cascading of the waters was so powerful. The rumbling sound telling me the greatness of the Creator, yes indeed it was a great experience. I could think of the greatness in terms of God’s creation. The gospel speaks about greatness and God wants to share it with us, but in order to be great we have to be like little children, and must be a servant to all. In the massive and powerful sound of the waters was calmness, serenity, and a whisper telling me that greatness is in each one of us as Gods creation as followers of Christ. We reveal this greatness through our humble and joyful service as we are called to show our greatness through our simplicity, trust and humility. Be great in the sight of God!

DID YOU KNOW? Children and Youth Programs implemented throughout the

Archdiocese of LA Every year, students at Catholic elementary and high schools, reli-

gious education, confirmation and youth ministry programs in the

Archdiocese of Los Angeles receive age-appropriate child abuse

prevention and reporting training. The “Empowering God’s Chil-

dren Program” is designed for Kindergarten through 12th grade

students. This program teaches children and young people to un-

derstand appropriate and inappropriate boundaries and gives them

the tools that empower them to take action and report if they feel

uncomfortable, scared or confused. More than 1.4 million students

Monsignor Andrew McGrath Scholarship

La Purisima Concepcion Catholic School Monsignor Andrew McGrath was born in County Waterford, Ireland. He was a

graduate of St. John’s Evangelist Seminary and was ordained in 1938. Monsignor

McGrath came to La Purísima Concepción in Lompoc in 1955 and within five years

built a Catholic school, a convent, and a new church to serve the growing Catholic

community. In 1968, Monsignor McGrath oversaw the building of Queen of An-

gels Parish and School in Mission Hills. He celebrated his 70th year of ordination

on June 16, 2008 andthe 50th anniversary of La Purísima Concepción School.

Monsignor McGrath supported La Purísima Concepción School and was a firm

believer that “A Catholic Education is an Advantage for Life.” This weekend, Sep-

tember 22-23, 2018 we have a special collection that will go toward supporting the

Monsignor Andrew McGrath Scholarship Fund. Please help keep Monsignor

McGrath’s life work alive. Donations will be used as scholarships to directly bene-

fit local Catholic families who cannot otherwise afford to send their children to

Catholic school. We thank all of the parishioners for their continued support of La

Purísima Concepción School.

Mientras escribo esto, ahora estoy en Buenos Aires. Comenzamos nuestro viaje a Argentina, viendo una de las grandes maravillas del mundo son las Cascadas del Iguazú. Fue una maravi-lla y experiencia para mí para ver la exquisita belleza de la cascada, que

comenzó en Brasil, la cascada de las aguas era tan poderosa. El sonido retumbante diciéndome la grandeza del Creador, sí, que de hecho fue una gran experiencia. Podría pensar en la grandeza en términos de la creación de Dios. El evangelio habla de la grandeza y Dios quiere compartirlo con nosotros, pero para ser grandes debemos ser como niños pequeños, y debemos ser siervos de todos. En el sonido masivo y poderoso de las aguas había calma, serenidad y un susurro que me decía que la grandeza está en cada uno de nosotros como la creación de Dios como seguido-res de Cristo. Revelamos esta grandeza a través de nuestro servicio humilde y alegre, ya que esta-mos llamados a mostrar nuestra grandeza a través de nuestra sencillez, confianza y humildad. ¡Sé grandioso a los ojos de Dios!
