    We will operate under the three strikes and youre out principle. Even though DRAFTIN

    is the only violation to incur a time penalty (to be served in the nearest penalty tent

    various spots on the bike course), any type o violation counts toward your three strikes.

    For example:

    1. DRAFTING violation (our minutes served in a bike course penalty tent)

    2. HELMET CHINSTRAP violation

    3. LITTERING violation a third violation results in disqualication (DQ)

    Again, any combination o three rule violations will result in a DQ. To maximize yo

    understanding o the rules on race day, please take the time to read and understand t

    ollowing summary o Position Violations.

    Triathlon is an individual event, and it is your responsibility to ully understand the rules a

    avoid penalties. In the case o Position Violations, the reerees ruling is nal and is not op

    to protests or appeals. The ollowing are several other common rules violations:

    Personal Communication Plan

    Prior to departing or Cozumel be sure to establish a communications plan with amily a

    riends back home. Establish a race day emergency contact with those who may ne

    to reach you in an emergency. Even i you are in Cozumel with amily and riends, it

    essential that you have a plan or contacting or reuniting with your group ollowing t

    race.

    Athlete Check-In

    Athlete check-in will take place at the Cozumel Convention Center beginning Thursda

    November 24th. Please reer to the event schedule or athlete check in and packet pick

    hours.

    IMPORTANT: Avoid long time lines downloading and printing the waiver orm ro

    the Registration and Packet Pick Up section at the event site, sign it and get it alo

    with a copy o your ofcial ID.

    To complete the check-in process, athletes will need the ollowing:

    1. Government issued photo identication

    2. Ford Ironman Cozumel registration conrmation

    3. Signed event waiver which can be printed out trough the packet pick up section at

    the event web site to avoid long time lines at packet pick up (it will also be provided

    during the check-in).

    4. Pick your participant packet which must include: Sport bag, race numbers: 2 bib

    numbers (one or the ront and one or the back), one helmet number, one bikenumber and 5 bag (pre swim, special needs, run and bike gear) numbers, swim

    cap,athletewristband,IPICOchip,bikejacket,bikewaterbottleand5bagsforpreswim, special needs, run and bike gear.

    Important notice: Packet pick up process is personal.

    ALL RACE PACKETS MUST BE PICKED UP BY 6:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, NOVEMB

    Athlete WristbandA wristband will be axed to your wrist at athlete check-in. This band will identiy you

    Personal Saety

    Always train with at least one other person (especially in the open water). While swimmin

    please wear a brightly colored swim cap and ensure that your amily members and/or rien

    know where you are.

    When training, please bike and run on the shoulder without moving into the trac lan

    Please be courteous and aware that the people sharing the roads with you are people y

    will count on during race day to ulll your physical and emotional needs. Please ride sing

    le, as biking side by side is illegal.

    Dinner, Friday, November 25, 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Punta Langosta Cruise Terminal &

    Shopping Center.

    Please do not remove the wristband prior to the dinner or you will be denied entry.

    willnotbepermittedtoenterthetransitionareaonracemorning.Youhavetheoptiontocover your bike computer or remove it; ull bike covers are not permitted.

    Youwillhaveaccesstoyourbicyclebeginningat5:30a.m.onracemorning,butyouwill not be allowed to remove your bike rom the transition area until the start o the

    bikeportionoftherace.Youwillnothaveaccesstoyourbikeandrungearbagsonracemorning until ater the swim, so please plan accordingly.

    Pack your bike and run gear in the appropriate gear bag and place them on the prope

    bag rack.

    Cycling shoes may be let in the transition area 1 on Saturday, November 26th, but must

    be clipped / attached to the bicycle; otherwise they must be placed inside the bike gea

    bag.

    No loose gear will be allowed on the ground next to the bicycles.

    RACE DAY INFORMATION

    Race Day Parking

    The Chankanaab parking lot will be used as transition area 1 so there will not be any

    parking space available inside the park. Parking on the road is strictly prohibited, soplease use the host hotels transportation or a taxi cab to get there.

    Event ree transportation departing rom 9:30 a.m. and taxi cab transportation will be the

    only available option or spectators to get rom Chankanaab park ater the swim nish to

    City Hall plaza where transition 2 and nish line will take place.

    Race Morning Check-in Procedure

    The transition area will open at 5:30 a.m. on race day. Plan to arrive early. Be sure to

    account or the 15-minute walk rom the transition area to the swim start.

    Body remarkingwill begin at5:30 a.m. atthe transition entrance. Youwill not bepermitted into the swim start area on race day without your wristband, swim cap, timing

    chip and your body marked. I you have misplaced any o these items, please see the

    transition director or a replacement. Do not apply sunscreen, oil, Vaseline or lotion

    until ater you have been body marked.

    Bike / Run Special Needs Bags

    SpecialneedsstationswillbelocatedatKm97ofthebikecourseandKm21oftheruncourse. The special needs stations are or special nutritional purposes or extra gear only

    All unclaimed bags will be discarded ater the special needs station closes.

    Prior to the swim start, leave your bike and run special needs bags at the respective

    buses outside T1.

    Morning Clothes Bag

    Prior to the swim start on race morning, nd the baggage storage tent inside the transition

    area, place any items (e.g., dry clothes, hotel room key, meds) you may need ater you

    nish in the bag that will be given to you in site. Please do not place any valuables in

    your bag.

    Youwillcollectyourbagatthesameplacefollowingtherace.Anyitemsthatdonot tinside the bag, such as bike pumps and backpacks, will not be accepted.

    Swim Course 2.4 miles / 3.8 km

    Course summaryThe 2.4-mile swim starts at the Dolphin Discovery dock inside Chankanaab park and

    nishesattheconcretedockjustsouthofthestartingdock.

    The course is 1 (one) lap.

    There will be only one mass start or all the age group athletes. Elite/pro athletes wil

    start earlier on a separate wave. During the swim, athletes must keep the buoy markers

    to their let. A bigger buoy will mark the turns.

    Additional swim course details

    Onracemorning,athleteswillwalk200meterfromthetransitiontotheswimstart.

    Amassswimstartforprofessionalathleteswillbeginat6:40a.m.followedbya 7:00a.m. mass swim start or all age group athletes.

    Thewatervisibilityis100%,buoyswillbeplacedevery200mforyourreference

    along the course.

    Practice Swims

    Prior to race day, acclimatize yoursel to the water conditions by participating in the

    practice swims on Friday and Saturday mornings (7:00 9:00 a.m.). While swimming

    during the scheduled practice swims, always ollow the instructions o water saety

    personnel and wear a brightly colored swim cap.

    Do not swim out beyond the buoys and never swim alone!

    There will not be ree transportation rom host hotels to practice swims.

    Swim course rules and instructions

    1. Onceyouarriveattheswimstartonracemorning,leaveyourmorningclothesbagatthedesignateddroparea.Youcannotleaveanygearatyourbicyclerack.

    2. Athletes who wear glasses or have other special needs may place these items

    on the special needs table at the swim start / swim nish prior to the start. Be

    sure to label them with your name and race number.

    3. Dont orget to bring the swim cap and timing chip provided to you at athlete

    check-in to the swim start check-in area. Failure to wear the ocial swim cap

    may result in your disqualication.

    4. Sincetheprojectedwatertemperatureonracedayis84degreesFahrenheit,wetsuit use wont be permitted.

    5. There will NOT be an opportunity to warm up in the water prior to the start. 5.

    Wearing swim goggles is recommended but not required.

    6. Wearing swim goggles is recommended but not required.

    7. No ns, paddles, snorkels or fotation devices o any kind are allowed.

    8. No individual paddlers or escorts allowed. Lieguards, surboards, kayaks and

    boats will adequately patrol the swim course.

    9. Swimmers are required to stay on course and keep the course buoys markers

    to the let. Failure to do so may result in disqualication.

    10. I you nd yoursel in need o assistance during the swim, raise an arm overhead,

    pump it up and down and call or seek assistance the water saety personnel.

    Any swimmer who receives assistance, whether voluntary or involuntary, must

    retire and withdraw rom the remainder o the race, unless such assistancedid not aid the swimmer in making orward progress. No swimmer shall return

    to the race i the ocial rendering assistance requests that the participant

    withdraws rom the race or receive medical assistance.

    11. The swim course will close one hour and ten minutes ater each wave group.

    All athletes still in the water ater the cut-o time will be disqualied and will not

    be permitted to continue the event.

    12. As you exit the water, you will cross timing mats on your way to the transition

    area.

    Onceinsidetransition,youarerequiredtopickupyourbluebikegearbagpriorto entering the changing tent, even i you have an empty gear bag. This is a

    security measure designed to maintain an accurate count o swimmers still in

    the water. Athletes must dress or the bike portion o the race in the changing

    tent only. Changing will not be allowed in the bike holding area as it impedes

    trac through the bike lanes. Public nudity is prohibited.

    13. Ater changing into your bike gear, place your swim gear inside the empty bike

    gear bag and leave your bag at the designated bag drop.

    Bike Course 112 miles / 180.2 km

    Course summary

    ThebikecoursestartsattheCHANKANAABparkinglot(T1),andnishesatT2nexttoCozumelCityHallintheheartofdowntown.Youwillhavetocomplete3lapsalongthe

    Highway around the Island in a counter clockwise direction. Every lap will go by the CitHall which is located next to T2 and the nish line.

    UponleavingT1atChankanaabpark,turnrightontheCozumelhighwayforabout1miles towards the south side o the Island (Punta Sur), at this point you will continu

    towards the north or about 9 miles right next to the ocean, with strong cross winds, unt

    thejunctionwithJuarezAve.(aplacecalledMezcalitos),whereyouwillturnleftandgstraightuntil30thAve.whereyoullturnleftandgostraightuntil11thstreet,turnrightand go straight until City Hall to complete lap 1. Two more and you will have nished th

    beautiul bike ride.

    The rst two laps are 39.5 miles each (63k), and the third lap is 33 miles (54k).

    The entire course is fat and the pavement is in perect conditions.

    ** Important: Due to the strong cross winds during a portion o the bike segmen

    the use o ull DISC wheels will be strictly orbidden (all others like HED thre

    spoke or similar will be fne), please take this into consideration to select you

    racing wheels. Race ofcials will monitor this at bike check in.

    Six (6) on-course aid stations, plus a special needs station, will keep the athletes ueled

    I you decide to take your bike with you and in order to avoid inconveniences with Mexica

    customs, we strongly recommend to take it as part o your baggage and not shipping

    using other than TBT service.

    Most airlines recommend that you use the ollowing procedures when shipping your bike

    Pack your bike as i you were shipping a carton o eggs. Do everything you canto ensure damage-ree delivery.

    Boldlylabelyourbikecasewithyourname,address,etc.,soitcanbeidentiedquickly.

    IfyouplantoarriveinCozumelimmediatelybeforethebikecheckin,youriskhaving your bike arrive ater you do.

    Bike tech services

    The ocial bike shop and technical provider o the event, will open their event store an

    tech service center on Friday, September 16 at the Peninsula room entrance at the Fiest

    Americana Condesa hotel. They will be staed by expert bike technicians and stocke

    withgreatdealsonavarietyofmerchandise(tires,tubes,CO2,andmore).

    Tech tips & other details

    Bike inspection will not be provided at bike check-in, although technicians will be available

    Athletes are ultimately responsible or their own bikes. However, race ocials may, a

    theirdiscretion,makenaljudgmentastothesoundnessofthebikes.

    Prior to mandatory bike check-in on Saturday, be sure your bar-end plugs are in place an

    youhavenoloosespokes,brakes,headsets,strippedcables,etc.Adjustthehubsanposition handlebars correctly. Ensure that cables and tires are in good condition and sew

    up tires are glued properly onto the rims. Securely asten all equipment you may carr

    with you on race day.

    To avoid an unexpected fat tire, wait until race morning to infate your tires to their prope

    air pressure. While there will be a limited number o pumps available in the transition are

    onracemorning,werecommendyoucanbringyourown.Youmustgiveyourpumpta amily member or riend beore the race start, since pumps will not be accepted wit

    your morning clothes bag.

    For security and saety reasons, bikes will not be allowed out o the transition area onc

    bike check-in begins on Saturday. No one will be allowed to enter the bike compoun

    unless accompanied by a race ocial.

    Onraceday,biketechvehicleswillpatrolthecoursetoaidinemergencyrepairs,butiis the sole responsibility o every athlete to carry the necessary items to make their ow

    repairs and continue with their race.

    Bike course rules and instructions

    1. All bikes must display the bike rame number. Bike number will be a sticker that

    you have to ax to your bike.

    2. Tandems, recumbents, airings or any add-on device designed exclusively to

    reduce resistance are not allowed. Any new, unusual or prototype equipment

    willbesubjecttoadeterminationoflegalitybyIronmanand/ortheHeadReferee.

    3. All bikes must be checked in the Saturday prior to race day. Race ocials

    reservetherighttorejectanybikeorhelmetnotmeetingsafetystandards.Ifthe bike does not meet saety standards, the athlete will be required to correct

    theproblembeforeparticipatingintherace.Onceyourbikeischeckedintothetransition area, only small covers on the seat and/or computer will be allowed.

    Large plastic bags that cover the entire bike will not be permitted.

    4. Position Rules:

    a. AbsolutelyNODRAFTINGofanotherbikeoranyothervehicleisallowed.

    b. Athletes must ride single le on the ar right side o the road except when

    passing another rider. Side-by-side riding is not allowed.

    c. Overtakingridersmaypassontheleftforupto20seconds,butmustmove back to the right side o the road, ater passing.

    d. Riders must keep 7 meters (~4 bike lengths) distance between bikes

    except when passing.

    e. An overtaken rider must all back 7 meters (~4 bike lengths) beore

    attempting to regain the lead rom a ront running bike.

    . Athletes committing rules violations will be notied on the spot by anocial.

    g. The ocial will:

    i. Call out your race number, notiy you that you have received either a

    REDCARDfordrafting,oraYELLOWCARDforanyotherpenalty.The ocial will show you the corresponding colored card.

    ii. Instruct you to report to the next penalty tent (PT) on the course. There

    will be at least two PTs on the course and one in the second transition

    area.THEEXACTLOCATIONOFTHEPTsWILLBESTATEDATTHEATHLETE BRIEFINGS.

    iii. Take your photograph or verication that you were penalized.

    h. The Athlete will:

    i. ReporttothenextPTandtellthePTOfcialwhetheryoureceivedaREDCARDoraYELLOWCARD.IfyoufailtoreporttothenextPT,you may be disqualied.

    ii. HaveracenumbersmarkedbythePTOfcialwitha/fordraftingora P or all other penalties.

    iii. Register, via the sign-in sheet.

    iv. Resume the race immediately, upon having your numbers marked

    withaPandregistering,forallnon-draftingviolations(YELLOWCARD).

    v. Remain in the PT or our minutes or each drating violation (RED

    CARD).

    vi. Be disqualied i you receive any combination o three penalties. I

    you are disqualied, you may nish the bike course but may not start

    the run.

    vii. Risk disqualication or not reporting to the PT.

    5. Shoesmustbeinthebikegearbagorsecuredtobikepedals.ShoesmayNOTbe beside the bike. Shoes and shirt must be worn at all times.

    6. Each participant must wear the Ironman-issued race number at all times while

    onthecourse.OneofthetwobibnumbersmustbeplacedlowontheBACKofridersjerseywhereitisclearlyvisible.FoldingorcuttingracenumberorintentionalalterationofanykindisSTRICTLYPROHIBITED.Racebeltsmaybeworn.

    7. CPSC-approved helmets are required during the entire bike including in and out

    o transition area. Any athlete riding without an approved helmet or chinstrap not

    astened may be disqualied. Alterations to a hard-shell helmet, which aect its

    integrity, are not allowed.

    8. No individual support is allowed. Ample aid stations will be provided. Friends,

    amily members, coaches or supporters o any type may not bike, drive or runalongside an athlete, may not pass ood or other items to an athlete and should

    be warned to stay completely clear o all athletes to avoid disqualication. It is

    incumbentuponeachathletetorejectimmediatelyanyattempttoassist,followor escort. Bike bottles must be tossed toward the bottle drop at the entrance

    and/or exit o an aid station. A penalty will be assessed or discarding a bike

    bottle or any other litter/trash outside the designated drop zone.

    9. Each participant must be individually responsible or the repair and maintenance

    o their own bike. Assistance by anyone other than race personnel will be ground

    or disqualication. Each cyclist should be prepared to handle any possible

    mechanical malunction. Technical support does not include the normal changing

    o fat tires. A limited number o technical support vehicles will be on the course

    to assist with emergency repairs whenever possible. Be prepared!

    10. Participants are expected to ollow directions and instructions o all race ocials

    and public authorities. Failure to do so may result in disqualication.

    11. Athletes may walk their bike, i necessary, but may not make progress on the

    bike course unless accompanied by their bike.

    12. All participants must mount and dismount in the marked zones at the transition

    area.Undernocircumstancesshouldanathleteridetheirbikeinsidethetransitionarea.

    13. Headsets or headphones are not allowed during any portion o the event.

    14. I you need minor medical assistance, sag vehicles will pick you up and take

    you to the medical tent, where you will receive treatment. Depending upon

    the level o care, ambulances may take you to the nearest hospital to receive

    treatment. I you have a technical problem, the sag vehicles will take you to the

    next aid station. I you have a problem, please go to an aid station or urther

    assistance.

    15. The bike course will close 10 hours and 30 minutes ater the swim starts. All

    athletes still on the bike course ater the cut-o time will be disqualied and willnot be permitted to continue the event.

    16. Ater completing the bike portion and upon entering the transition area, athletes

    must pick up their run gear bag, even i you have an empty gear bag. This is a

    security measure designed to maintain an accurate count o cyclists still on the

    course. Athletes must dress or the run portion o the race in the changing tent

    only. Changing will not be allowed in the bike holding area as it impedes trac

    through the bike lanes. Public nudity is prohibited.

    17. Ater changing into your run gear, place your bike gear inside the empty run gear

    bag and leave your bag at the designated bag drop.

    Please remember that members o the local community use the bike course roads

    Realize that you are an ambassador or the sport and the event and the impact o you

    actions is ar reaching. When youre out riding the course, please adhere to local tra

    laws and go the extra mile to be courteous and respectul to the residents o the loc

    community.

    When training, please ollow these suggestions:

    Run Course - 26.2 miles / 42.2 km

    Course summary

    Therun isatandpassesmanyofCozumelssignaturesites,including itswaterfronwalk, downtown main plaza, and historic neighborhoods. Run course stations are locate

    every kilometer, although the entire course will be marked every 1 mile and every 5km

    The run nishes at the City Hall plaza in downtown Cozumel.

    Ater nishing the bike portion o the race, hand in your bike to the T2 volunteers who w

    rack your bike or you, and proceed to the run bag racks and changing tents.

    The run will start towards the North along the main street (Raael Melgar Ave.) unt

    reaching the turnaround point near the Cozumel Gol Course. It will be an out and bac

    course to which you will run 3 laps. Each lap is 8.7 miles (14k).

    Run course rules and instructions

    1. No orm o locomotion other than running or walking is allowed.

    2. Runners must wear their bib number at all times on the course. Race numbers

    issued by Ford Ironman Cozumel identiy the ocial participants in the race.

    Folding, cutting or intentionally altering the bib number is strictly prohibited. The

    bib number must be placed on ront o the runner and securely attached. Race

    belts may be worn. Shoes and shirts are required on the run segment, bare

    torsos are not allowed.

    3. This is an individual event. Individual support vehicles or non-participant escort

    runners are prohibited and will result in the athletes disqualication. Teamwork

    in the orm o outside assistance, which provides an advantage over single

    competitors, is not allowed.

    A non-participant escort runner includes participants who have withdrawn

    rom the race, been disqualied or nished the race. Friends, amily members,

    coaches or supporters o any type may not bike, drive or run alongside a

    participant, may not pass ood or other items to a participant and should be

    warned to stay completely clear o all participant to avoid the disqualication o

    theparticipant.Itisincumbentuponeachparticipanttoimmediatelyrejectanyattempt to assist, ollow or escort. It is permissible or a participant who is still

    competing to run with other participants who are still competing.

    4. Runners are expected to ollow the directions and instructions o all race ocials

    and public authorities.

    5. The Ford Ironman Cozumel course will close 17 hours ater the age group swim

    starts. Runners still on the course ater that time will be given the opportunity

    to unocially nish the race, upon the sole discretion o race organizers and

    Public authorities.

    Finish Line Policy

    Friends and/or amily members are not permitted to cross the nish line or enter the n

    chute with participating athletes. This policy will allow each competitor adequate time

    celebrate their accomplishment without interering with other nishers and ensure t

    saety o all participants, volunteers and ans. Athletes who choose not to respect t

    policy will receive an automatic disqualication (DQ).

    Event Sanction

    Mexican Triathlon Federation (FMTRI) will sanction the 2011 Ford Ironman Cozumel a

    the event will abide by their rules and their ocials.

    Any abuse o marshals, race ocials or volunteers is grounds or immediate disqualicati

    Rules Applying To All Segments o RaceIt is the athletes responsibility to know all aspects o the swim, bike and run.

    1. Participants are expected to ollow directions and instructions o all race ocials

    and public authorities.

    2. Course marshals shall have authority to disqualiy any contestant.

    3.Medical personnel shall have ULTIMATE and FINAL authority to remove acontestantfromtheraceifthecontestantisjudgedtobephysicallyincapableocontinuingtheracewithoutriskofseriousinjuryordeath.Medicaltransportof

    any contestant will result in disqualication.

    4. No participant can use a Perormance Enhancing drug or procedure. All doping

    processes and violations will be handled in strict accordance to the World Anti-

    Doping Agency (WADA) code. A list o banned substances is available at: http://

    www.wada-ama.org/en/dynamic.ch2?pageCategory.id+370, also known as the

    WADA Prohibited List. Participants may be requested to undergo drug testing

    beore and ater the event. I you are requested to do so, you hereby agree to

    abide by such testing procedures.

    5. The Medical Control Rules set orth by FMTRI, in harmony with WADA regulations

    and policies on banned substances, will be binding on all participants. In addition

    other rules and regulations, even i not yet recognized by the WADA, may beinstituted, which i such occurs, you agree to abide by.

    6. Should any participant have an Adverse Analytical Finding according to the WADA

    code, all procedures with regards to handling o the sample, notication, testing

    oftheBSample,adjudicationandsuspensionswillbeperformedinaccordancewith the WADA code.

    7. Fraud, thet, abusive treatment o volunteers or others and acts o poor

    sportsmanship are grounds or immediate disqualication and will result in

    contestant being suspended from competing in any IRONMAN event in theuture.

    8. I an athlete decides to withdraw rom the race at any time, it is the responsibility

    o the contestant to report to the timing tent located at the nish line and turn

    in their bib number and timing chip immediately. It is essential that race ocials

    know where contestants are on the course at all times. Failure to comply ater

    withdrawing rom the race may result in contestant being prevented rom

    competinginanyIRONMANeventinthefuture.

    9. Ford Ironman Cozumel reserves the right to make rule changes at any time

    provided all athletes are notied in writing and/or at the pre-race athlete briengs

    meetings.

    10. As an FMTRI-sanctioned race, the Ford Ironman Cozumel will subscribe to

    FMTRI rules specically, proessional athletes may not win age group awards

    and age group athletes are not eligible or prize money.

    11. Communication devices o any type are strictly prohibited during competition.

    Useofsuchdevicesmayresultindisqualication.

    12.IRONMANdoesnotallowthetransferofanathletesregistrationtoanother;no exceptions will be made to this rule. Any attempt to transer registration will

    result in disqualication and suspension rom uture participation in any Ironman

    event.

    Physically Challenged Division Rules

    Supplemental rules and regulations pertaining to the Physically Challenged division ar

    consistent with FMTRI rules.

    Swim

    1. IRONMANreservestherighttoseedcontestantattheswimstart(i.e.,earlystart, late start, designated wave, etc.).

    2. Athlete may use wetsuit during competition. Each athlete must obtain approval

    fromIRONMANpriortotheraceforallswimwearandaccessoriestobeusedduring the swim. Any change thereater will be grounds or disqualication.

    The use o any fotation devices is prohibited unless otherwise approved by

    IRONMAN.

    Bike

    1. Cycling conduct and specications are consistent with FMTRI rules.

    2.Handcyclesareallowed.Raceofcialsreservetherighttorejectanybikenotmeeting saety standards.

    3. Equipment must otherwise conorm to all other general rules or bicycles as

    it pertains to the Ironman competition, including no add-on device(s) that may

    reduce wind resistance or enhance aerodynamics o the bicycle/handcycle,

    regardless o any secondary benet.

    4. Participant is required to maintain control o his/her bicycle/handcycle and to

    operate at a reasonable speed so as not to threaten the saety and well being

    o aid station volunteers, other competitors, race ocials and spectators.

    Operationofa bicycle/handcycle ina dangerousor recklessmannerwill begrounds or disqualication.

    5. A CPSC-approved helmet is required during the entire handcycle (bike) segment

    including in and out o the transition area. Any athlete riding without an approved

    helmet or chinstrap not astened will be disqualied.

    6. DRAFTING IS PROHIBITED.

    Run

    1. Running conduct and specications are consistent with FMTRI rules.

    2. Athletes are required to comply with the same equipment saety inspectionor the run portion o the event as is required or the bicycle/handcycle portion.

    Standard racing chairs shall be used.

    3. A CPSC-approved helmet is required during the entire wheelchair (run) segment

    including in and out o the transition area. Any athlete riding without an approved

    helmet or chinstrap not astened will be disqualied.

    Race Timing

    The race will ocially end 17 hours ater the age group swim start. Aid station stopstransitions, etc., will be included in your total elapsed time. Splits will be recorded o

    each segment o the race. The ollowing cuto times apply or each segment o the race

    Swim:2hoursand20minutesaftertheswimstart.Anyathletestillinthewaterater this time will be disqualied and removed rom the race.

    Bike:10hoursand30minutesaftertheswimstart.Anyathletestillonthebikeater this time will be disqualied and removed rom the race.

    Run:17hoursaftertheswimstart.Anyathletestillontherunafterthistimewill be disqualied.

    TheracewillbetimedwiththeIPICOchip.Yourresponsibilitiesasacompetitorinclude

    1. When you pick up your race packet and timing chip at athlete check-in, stop by

    the chip verication table to ensure that your correct name shows up on the

    computer screen.

    2. Youmustwearyourtimingchipatalltimeswhileyouareracing.Fastenittoeither ankle with the Velcro strap provided beore the swim start and leave it on

    untilafteryounishtherun.YoumayapplyVaselinearoundyourankle.Itwillnot aect the chip. Volunteers will help you remove the chip at the nish line.

    3. I you do not start the race on Sunday, you are still responsible or returning the

    chip to race management. Chips should be returned to the address indicated in

    itsenvelope.

    4. I you drop out or are pulled rom the race at any time, turn your chip in to a

    race ocial. Failure to do so may disqualiy you rom participating in uture

    IRONMANevents.Itisessentialthatweknowwhereyouareonthecourseatall times or your saety and our peace o mind. I you are transported to any

    medical station, the medical sta will take responsibility or your chip.

    5. Yourracechipisa loaner.Bypickingupyourracenumberandchip,youareguaranteeing that you will return the chip to race management, or you will be

    billed$50USDforitsreplacement.

    6. I you lose your timing chip during the event, you are responsible or a

    replacement at the ollowing location: timing tent next to the nish line gantry.

    I you lose your timing chip while on the run course, notiy a timing ocial

    immediately ater crossing the nish line.

    7. Failure to wear your timing chip on race day, return your chip ater the event

    or pay the replacement cost o your lost chip may disqualiy you rom uture

    IRONMANevents.

    No chip = no time

    Bicycle and Gear Bags Recovery

    You are required to reclaim your bicycle and bike and run gear bags at the secontransitionarea(T2)aftertherace(Sunday5:00p.m.1:00a.m.).Youmusthaveyou

    athlete wristband on or entry into the transition area.

    There will not be event provided shuttle bus service rom T2 to host hotels ater the race

    you may get a taxi right next to the T2, please note that some o the host hotels are alon

    the race course, you may expect delays to get to your destination.

    Medical

    There will be medical sta and acilities throughout the race course. Trained individual

    will be stationed along the swim course (in boats and on rescue boards) to assist you i

    case o an emergency.

    Additionally, there will be a primary medical aid station at the nish, as well as mobil

    medicalteamsroamingthecourse.Overhalfofthevisitsoccurafterparticipantshavnished the race. Please do not leave the nish area until you and your riends are sur

    you are okay, until you can drink without vomiting and stand without dizziness. Th

    medical aid station at nish line will ocially close 18 hours ater the swim start. A

    athletes seeking medical attention ater that time will be reerred to local emergenc

    room acilities.

    All medical expenses incurred are the sole responsibility o the athlete and not For

    Ironman Cozumel.

    Particulardangersincludedehydration,hyponatremia,sunburn,exhaustionand injurie

    sustained rom accidents. Please ask or medical help i you have the slightest hint yo

    mayneedit.Youwillnotbepenalizedforreceivingamedicalevaluation.Youwillbewithdrawn rom the race only i you require transportation, IV fuids or i medical personn

    eel your continued participation could result in serious harm or death.

    During events o extreme endurance, the bodys pain threshold is raised, and you may b

    in more trouble than you realize. The medical personnel will do all they can to keep yoin the race and assure a sae nish. Also, please be attentive when taking water, sport

    drink or other supplies rom volunteers when youre on your bike to avoid the possibilit

    ofaccidentorinjurytoyourselforanother.

    Pleasetrimyourngernailsandtoenailspriortothestartoftheracetoavoidinjurytoothathletes. Be especially careul to rinse your goggles o any excess deogger solutions t

    avoid eye irritation.

    I you spend three months prior to the event in a climate cooler than Cozumel, we sugges

    you consider an acclimation period in Cozumel beore the race. The chance o dehydratio

    and electrolyte imbalance can be reduced signicantly by a proper period o acclimation

    Stay with your amiliar and proven routine regarding training, nutrition and equipment

    especiallyjustpriortotherace.Thisalsoappliestopre-racedietaryintakeandmedicationsIt is recommended you avoid an extreme elimination diet. Adequate salt intake durin

    training and during the event is especially important.

    I you are taking any medications, or have any medical problem that may infuence you

    performanceoryourtreatmentintheeventofaninjury,adviseusofallnecessarydetaiwell in advance o race day. Failure to do so will result in suspension o participation i

    futureIRONMANevents.

    Youaresolelyresponsibleforavoidingmedicationsthatappearonthelistofbanned

    substances as determined rom WADA.

    FeedbackfrompreviousIRONMANcontestantsindicateswecanneveroveremphasizthe importance o hydrating prior to and during the event. Ford Ironman Cozumels Chie

    Physician recommends you begin hydrating heavily several days beore the race and drin

    enough water so your urine is clear, colorless and copious by race day.

    Aid Stations

    Throughout the bike course, there will be six (6) aid stations which will be located a

    KM10,20,34,40,50and60ofeverylaptosupplyyouwithGatoradeRegularFormul

    (lemon-lime and orange favor) in ready-to-drink sport-top bottles, water, PowerbarsPowerbar Gel, ice, oranges and bananas. Be sure to toss empty bike bottles and sport

    nutrition wrappers at the drop targets immediately prior to each aid station. Water bottle

    will be exchanged at the aid stations. Individual bottles will not be returned to athletes.

    Ontheruncourse,aidstationswillbelocatedapproximatelyeverykilometerandwioer Gatorade Regular Formula (lemon-lime and orange favor), water, Pepsi, Powerbar

    Powerbar Gel, ice, oranges, bananas, pretzels and mosquito repellent.

    There will be portable toilets at each o the aid stations at bike and run course.

    Onraceday, the teamwill offercomplimentary10-minute post-racemassagesat trecovery zone.

    Awards Banquet

    Each athlete will receive complimentary entry (athlete wristband), or the Awards Banqu

    Monday, November 28, 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Punta Langosta Cruise Terminal & Shoppi

    Center.

    Please do not remove the wristband prior to the banquet or you will be denied entry.

    awarded to the top proessional and age group nishers. Please review the table

    ROLLDOWN PROCEDURE:

    1. The athlete must be present at the roll down which will be held right ater the slot

    allocation to accept the slot. I the athlete is not present to accept the slot, the

    slot will be oreited to another athlete.

    2. A slot will roll down to the next person (same gender) in a designated age

    group i the athlete originally earning the slot is not present or has declined the

    slot.

    3. Slots must be rolled down within the same age group and gender.

    claimed, the slot (s) will be assigned to the age group within that gender having
