    What is breath therapy?

Breath therapy is a healing art based onancient eastern disciplines, as well asmodern western methods. It represents aunique approach to wellness in spirit, mindand body.

Breath therapy is based on two centralconcepts. The first concept states that, inthe average person, the breathingmechanism is used at only a fraction ofits potential. The normal or healthybreathing system that we are all born withhas been damaged and inhibited by anumber of conditions and events beginningat birth. Some of these damagingexperiences include family and culturalinfluences, as well as every physical andemotional trauma you have ever livedthrough.

The second concept states that when thenatural breathing state is restored, everysystem in the body begins to work better. We find that breath itself naturally heals andrenews body, mind and spirit.

Your breathing system needs to be healedand brought back to the level that natureintended for it.

Conscious breathing becomes a verypowerful self-directed healing process. Thebreath reveis itself to be an untapped naturalresource and a therapeutic tool for health, growth and change.

    PRACTICING BRGATH THGRAPY

The practice of breath therapy involvesthe application of breathing awarenessand breathing tecniques in a number of

settings and for a variety of purposes, ranging from peak athletic performanceto profound spiritual awakening, fromsubstance abuse prevention to Creativeartistic expression.

Breath therapy exercises are designed toallow you to discover and explore thepower and potential of breathing.

Breath therapy techniques offer quick, effective ways to clear your head, settleyour stomach, calm your nerves and open

your heart.- Dan Brule, breathwork teacher

Breath therapy is always presented andpracticed in a heart-centered atmospherewith certain goals or parameters in mind:wholeness and oneness, freedom andsafety, energy and liveliness, peace andpower, health and happiness, love andenlightenment.

    THG PRINCIPLGS OF BRGATH THGRAPY

1-The TechniqueBreath therapy makes use of a number of specificbreathing techniques and exercises. Some of theseexercises have an immediate effect. Some of thetechniques are used to probe the breathing mechanismfor breathing problems or inhibiting patterns. Sometechniques are used to trigger relaxation, others areused to actvate, control or direct vital energy.

2-The SurroundingsThe environment, physical as well as emotional, inwhich the techniques are learned and practiced, is alsocrucial to success. The results of practicing in acomfortable setting with gentle loving people will bevery different than the results of practicing in anuncomfortable space within a hostile crowd.

3- The TeacherWater only rises to its own level. Its easier to leamparachuting from someone who has done it many timesand has always loved it, instead of someone who is anovice and has less experience than you.

4- The Mind of the BreatherYour beliefs, attitudes and expectations will directly influence the effects and outcomesof the breathing practice. Your purpose and intentions while practicing the techniqueswill determine your results to a great extent.

5- Something else/The UnexpectedAlthough its possible to perform a technique incorrectly, to practice it in the worstpossible circumstances, to learn it from a terrible teacher and to do it for all the wrongreasons, something wonderful might still spark.

    CHI KUNG

    Chinese Medical Breathing Exercises

For thousands of years, the Chi Kung wastaught and practiced in secret, within smallclosed groups. Only in the last 30 or 40years, it has become known to greatnumbers of people in China andthroughout the world.

When chi, the circulating life energy thoughtto be inherent in all things, cannot flowthrough the body, it builds up where it is notwanted or needed and other parts of thebody dont get enough of it. This principie iswell known and proven through acupuncture.

Chi Kung is one of the oldest forms ofChinese medicine. Many teachers havetried to make the system mysterious, offering little bits of information at a time,

    and only to loyal followers.

Self-training and practice of Chi Kungremoves mental barriers and increasesthe flow of energy throughout the body, healing and restoring vitality and balanceto spirit, mind, and body.
