    DESCRIPCIN DEL CURSO

    New Burlington English for Adults 3es un completo mtodo de enseanza dirigido especficamente a personasadultas espaolas que se inician en el aprendizaje de la lengua inglesa.

    Para ofrecer a los alumnos/as la mxima exposicin al ingls hablado, la mayora de los contenidos de este librose ha grabado en los Class Audio CD. Dado que los estudiantes de este nivel normalmente encuentran difciles losejercicios de listening, deben saber que no se han de preocupar si no entienden todas las palabras de un dilogo laprimera vez que lo escuchan. Adems, es til que conozcan el tema del ejercicio que van a escuchar para entenderel contexto de los dilogos. Ser necesario poner los CD audio las veces que haga falta hasta que entiendan toda laaudicin. Si los alumnos/as encuentran un ejercicio particularmente complicado, pueden parar el CD audio y as,tener ms tiempo para completar sus respuestas o comprobar el significado de palabras o expresiones desconocidas.Siempre tendrn que escuchar la grabacin una vez ms para corregir sus respuestas.

    MEET THE CHARACTERSEn estas pginas se presentan los personajes de la historia que se desarrolla a lo largo del libro: sus nombres, edadesy profesiones. Los protagonistas son dos parejas jvenes que trabajan en Inglaterra.

    INTRODUCTIONHay una unidad de introduccin de dos pginas diseada para familiarizar a los alumnos/as con su libro y con lasinstrucciones que van a encontrar en l. Tambin revisarn y repasarn el vocabulario y la gramtica vistos en

    New Burlington English for Adults 1 y2.

    8 UNIDADES

    Las ocho unidades estn relacionadas con la lnea argumental de la historia central del libro. Su estructura es lasiguiente:

    Dilogos introductoriosLas unidades estn divididas en dos lecciones, cada una de las cuales empieza con un dilogo introductorio. Estosdilogos, que estn grabados en los Class Audio CD, ofrecen una manera autntica de presentar los nuevos conceptosgramaticales y el vocabulario de la unidad. Los alumnos/as mirarn las fotografas que ilustran estos dilogos parasaber de qu van a tratar. El ttulo de cada dilogo tambin les ayudar a entender lo que van a escuchar a continuacin.Despus de or el listeningtendrn que comprobar que entienden todo el vocabulario.

    Una vez los alumnos/as sepan de qu trata el texto es buena idea escuchar la grabacin antes de leerlo. De esta manera,van habituando poco a poco el odo al ingls hablado. Despus, tendrn que volver a escuchar el dilogo mientras lo

    leen y repetirlo cuantas veces fuera necesario hasta que todo quede bien claro. Y una vez lo hayan entendido, puedenhacer pausas para repetir cada frase.

    Al dilogo de introduccin le suele seguir otro dilogo con espacios en blanco. Los alumnos/as tienen que escucharel Class Audio CDy escribir las palabras que faltan. La primera vez que lo escuchen tendrn que concentrarse enla comprensin general del texto y no fijarse exclusivamente en las palabras que faltan. Lo escucharn hasta que sesientan capaces de completar el texto. Despus volvern a or la grabacin para corregir sus respuestas.

    Grammar

    Las nuevas estructuras gramaticales de cada unidad se presentan en un cuadro de gramtica. A veces resultainteresante comparar la estructura con una parecida en su lengua y encontrar la explicacin adecuada y la traduccin.Pero en el caso de estructuras complejas, ser necesario repasar unidades anteriores antes de continuar con el nuevopunto gramatical. Despus de esta presentacin se incluyen ejercicios para poner en prctica la nueva estructura.

    Words

    Esta seccin incluye el vocabulario nuevo del dilogo de introduccin y otros trminos relacionados. El primerejercicio presenta las palabras nuevas y sus significados, y el resto ofrece prctica adicional del nuevo vocabulario.

    Pronunciation

    Esta seccin se compone de una cantidad de palabras o frases grabadas en el Class Audio CD, seleccionadas

    especficamente para atender los problemas de pronunciacin. En ingls las palabras no suelen pronunciarse tal y comose escriben y en las frases hay palabras que no se pronuncian de forma separada e independiente del resto. Tambinla entonacin y el ritmo son diferentes en ingls y en su lengua. Habra que escuchar los CD audio todas las vecesque fuera necesario para dar a los alumnos/as la oportunidad de imitar la pronunciacin, entonacin y acentuacinde cada palabra o frase.

    Reading

    Los textos de lectura han sido cuidadosamente elegidos para seguir un orden de aprendizaje gradual en trminos delongitud, vocabulario, estructura y nivel. Pueden contener palabras nuevas, pero nunca estructuras desconocidas.Algunos de los trminos nuevos son cognatesy su finalidad es animar a los alumnos/as a comprender su significadoa partir del contexto. A continuacin hay un ejercicio para repasar la comprensin.

    Todos los textos estn grabados en los Class Audio CD, de modo que se pueden escuchar antes o despus de leer eltexto.

    Review

    Al final de cada unidad aparecen dos pginas para repasar los contenidos de una manera motivadora con el fin de ofrecera los alumnos/as una oportunidad adicional de consolidar y ampliar sus conocimientos. En primer lugar, hay una listade las palabras clave de la unidad ordenadas alfabticamente. Los/las estudiantes pueden traducir las palabras oagruparlas segn su funcin gramatical nombres, verbos o adjetivos o lxica. Otra posibilidad es que escriban frasescon ellas.

    Los alumnos/as completan los ejercicios de vocabulario con la ayuda de la Word List. Luego, repasan los principales

    conceptos gramaticales presentados en la unidad y, seguidamente, realizan un ejercicio de comprensin oral.La seccin deReviewtambin contiene el apartadoIts Your Turn, que les ofrece la oportunidad de utilizar el lenguajeque acaban de aprender en la unidad en situaciones semiautnticas. A partir de un dilogo, tienen que sustituir ciertaspalabras y expresiones para crear un dilogo original que sea cierto en su caso. Al final, los alumnos/as realizarnuna actividad llamadaDid You Know?, en la que se presentan datos interesantes sobre la cultura britnica y la deotros pases de habla inglesa. Estos datos estn relacionados, por supuesto, con los temas principales de la historia delos dilogos y con las lecturas de cada unidad.

    Language Practice

    Esta seccin, que se encuentra al final del libro y se compone de dos pginas por unidad, ofrece prctica adicional delos nuevos contenidos, as como repaso de los anteriores. No hay ejercicios de comprensin oralen esta seccin.

    Grammar Appendix

    Para obtener una explicacin completa de las estructuras gramaticales que se presentan en el libro de texto, esaconsejable que los alumnos/as consulten el apndice gramatical. Este apndice tambin contiene ejercicios parapracticar los conceptos que han aprendido y que les ayudarn a reforzar los puntos gramaticales.

    Glossary, Useful Words and Expressions e Irregular Verb List

    Se trata de un glosario del vocabulario de todo el curso en el que las palabras estn ordenadas alfabticamente y vanacompaadas de su traduccin en castellano y de su transcripcin fontica. Despus del glosario hay una lista depalabras y expresiones tiles con sus traducciones. Y para acabar, encontramos una lista de verbos irregulares con lastres formas y la transcripcin fontica.

    DE INTRODUCCIN

    Antes de empezar a estudiar, es una buena idea que te familiarices con el libro y los tipos de ejercicios que encontrars.

    El libro contiene diferentes actividades, y para que sepas cules son, es importante que hagas los ejercicios 1Ay 1B dela pgina 6.
