On Sunday November 30th, OMA invited the community to gather for a special event: Autumn Symphony Fundraiser for CHEO. Though temperatures were cold throughout the month of November, it was not the case on that particular day. The snow had completely melted and the air was warm, a perfect atmosphere for the festivities!

STUDENT

SPOTLIGHT

Autumn Symphony

First there was a recital featuring a collection of our students. The acts included pianists, guitarists, vocalists, violinists and a saxophonist. As usual, they were outstanding. It was wonderful to see them showcase their talent.

Incredible Instrument:

Violin o Comes from the Latin word

vitula, which means stringed instrument.

o It is made up of over 70 separate pieces of wood.

o The modern violin has been around since 1500s and was invented by the Italian lute maker Andrea Amati

o The strings used to be made of Catgut, which in fact is sheep intestine.

o 150 to 200 horse hairs are used to make the bow. Nylon and synthetic hairs are used for lower quality bows.

“Violin playing is a physical art with great traditions behind it.”

- Vanessa Mae British Violinist

We Want To Know… Last month’s question was:

“What is your Zodiac sign?”

During the intermission, everyone enjoyed some treats from the Bake Sale. The baked goods were made by some of our staff, students and their families. There was also a music book and music accessory sale. All the proceeds raised were to support the CHEO Foundation. Some lucky guests went home with a prize!

You can still contribute towards the cause! Anything sold with an “Echoes of Winter” logo will go towards the CHEO foundation so look for them at your next lesson!

There was a definitely a strong sense of community, generosity and support that afternoon. Thank you to all who attended and for your generous donations! You helped us raise over $300!
