Conoce el Parque Natural Los Alcornocales

En el Parque Natural Los Alcornocales (casi 170.000 hectreas) se agrupa un conjunto de sierras dondese desarrolla, en excelente estado de conservacin, el mayor alcornocal de la Pennsula Ibrica y unode los ms importantes del mundo.

Excepcionales bosques en galera, formados por especies subtropicales ausentes del continente europeo,se localizan en los denominados "canutos", valles profundos y estrechos excavados por los ros, pobladospor laurel, rododendro, avellanillo, durillo, aliso, acompaados por acebo y ejemplares de helechos pococomunes en nuestros bosques.

Los alcornocales, en ocasiones, se mezclan con acebuches, quejigos, robles melojos dependiendode las condiciones de humedad y del tipo de sustrato. Su matorral est constituido por lentiscos, jaras,brezos, cantuesos, torviscos y majuelos, entre otras especies tpicas del clima mediterrneo.

Las rapaces mejor adaptadas a este tipo de bosque son las guilas calzadas, culebreras y ratoneras,azores, gavilanes y crabos. En las lajas y tajos de la sierra se localizan rapaces rupcolas como el buitrecomn, el alimoche, el guila perdicera, el bho real, halcn peregrino y cerncalos.

La extraccin del corcho es un recurso ancestral, que an hoy se mantiene su sistema de extraccintradicional. El perodo de descorche debe coincidir con la mxima actividad vegetativa para que el rbolse recupere lo ms pronto posible.

Discover Los Alcornocales Natural Park

In Los Alcornocales Natural Park (almost 170.000 hectares, from the south of the province of Cdiz tothe northeast of the province of Mlaga) there is a mountain range where we can find the largest corkoak forest on the Iberian Peninsula, and one of the most important in the world, which is in an excellentstate of conservation.

The Park houses exceptional forests, formed by typical, subtropical species that are not to be presentlyfound elsewhere in Europe and that are located in the so-called canutos, deep, narrow valleys dugout by the rivers and populated with laurel, rhododendrons, hazelnut trees, dogwoods, bird cherries,together with holly and species of ferns that are hard to find in our forests.

The cork oaks ocassionally are found together with wild olive trees, Mediterranean oaks, English oaks,Pyrenean oaks, among others, depending on the humidity conditions and the type of soil. The underbrushis made up of mastic trees, rockrose, heather, Spanish lavender, spurge flax and hawthorn, among othertypical species of the Mediterranean climate.

The raptors which are best adapted to this type of forest are the bootedeagle, the short-toed eagle, the common buzzard, the goshawk,the sparrowhawk and the tawny owl. In the gorges andravines of the mountains you can see raptors suchas the common vulture, the Egyptian vulture,Bonellis eagle, the eagle owl, the peregrine,and the kestrel.

Cork extraction goes back to ancienttimes, and is carried out today in quitea similar way as it has always beendone. The cork harvesting time needsto take place when there is the mostvegetation growth, thereforeallowing the tree to recover in theshorest period of time.
