Funciones de los tRNA:
1.- Unir covalentemente un aminoácido al tRNA que contiene una secuencia de nucleotidos (anticodón) complementaria al codón que especifica ese aminoácido sobre el mRNA
2.- Activar al aminoácido generando un enlace altamente energético en el extremo COOH para que reaccione con el aminoácido siguiente en la secuencia de la cadena y forme el enlace peptídico

Al unirse eIF4E a 4E-BP1, el 1º no se puede unir a eIF4G demodo que 4E-BP1 es un inhibidor de la unión de eIF4E –mRNAa la subunidad 40S y no se inicia la traducción.
4E-BP1 se regula por fosforilación de modo que si 4E-BP1 está fosforilado, no se une a eIF4E y este está libre para unirse a eIF4G y activar la traducción.
