ENGLISH VERBAL TENSES(Tiempos verbales en
inglés)
How do we build verbs in English?¿Cómo hacemos los verbos en
castellano?

English: 1, 2 ó 3 formas máximo, 1 o 2 palabras
5Cristina Aranda Barandiain
Y vosotros diréis…
¿Pero el DO no era HACER,
el TO BE no era SER O ESTAR
y el HAVE no era TENER?
6Cristina Aranda Barandiain
¡EFECTIVAMENTE!
TO DO HACERAUXILIAR (para las formas simples)
TO BE SER O ESTAR
AUXILIAR(para las formas continuas)
TO HAVE TENERAUXILIAR(para las formas perfectas)

¿OS ACORDÁIS DE CÓMO SE CONJUGAN?
PRESENT PAST
8Cristina Aranda Barandiain
I WORKED I WORK -
(El futuro en inglés necesita otras formas de expresión (WILL, GOING TO, MIGHT…) que ya veremos más adelante)
9Cristina Aranda Barandiain
Vamos a coger un verbo de ejemplo: TO WORK. ¿Cómo serían las formas simples, continuas y perfectas del verbo TO WORK? Veamos.
11Cristina Aranda Barandiain
¿Por qué se le llama simple? Porque es tan simple que sólo
tiene 1 palabra:
Present simple: I/we/you/they WORK
he/she/it WORKS
Past simple: I/he/she/it/we/you/they WORKED
12Cristina Aranda Barandiain
Tiene 2 palabras: TO BE + ING
Present continuous: I AM WORKING
he/she/it IS WORKING
we/you/they ARE WORKING
Past continuous: I/he/she/it WAS WORKING
we/you/they WERE WORKING
13Cristina Aranda Barandiain
¿Por qué se le llama perfect? Porque se hace con el auxiliar TO HAVE, tener, y si tienes de todo, es perfecto.
Tiene 2 palabras:
TO HAVE + PARTICIPIO (-ED o 3rd column)
Presente perfect: I/we/you/they HAVE WORKED
he/she/it HAS WORKED
Past perfect: I/we/you/they HAD WORKED
he/she/it
14Cristina Aranda Barandiain
Entonces, hemos dicho que…
SIMPLE CONTINUOUS PERFECT
1 palabra(I work)
2 palabras(I am working)
2 palabras(I have worked)
Si tenemos 1 palabra, el auxiliar es DO/DOES/DID.
Si tenemos 2 palabras y una es el verbo to be, pues ése es el auxiliar, AM/IS/ARE/WAS/WERE
Si tenemos 2 palabras y una es el verbo to have, pues ése es el auxiliar, HAVE/HAS/HAD.
15Cristina Aranda Barandiain
A ver si lo has entendido…
1
2. ¿Cómo sería el presente simple del verbo to work?
I work
3. Y como no tiene ni TO BE ni TO HAVE, ¿qué auxiliar le vamos a poner?
DO (do, does, did)
4. ¿Cómo sería la forma negativa del verbo to work (Yo no trabajo)?
I don’t work
5. Y la pregunta ¿Tú trabajas?, ¿cómo sería?
Do you work?
DID (I didn’t work, did you work?)
16Cristina Aranda Barandiain
A ver si lo has entendido…
2
8. ¿Cómo sería el presente continuo del verbo to work?
I am working
9. Y como tiene el TO BE, ¿qué auxiliar le vamos a poner?
BE (am, is, are)
10. ¿Cómo sería la forma negativa del verbo to work (Yo no estoy trabajando)?
I am not working
11. Y la pregunta ¿Tú estás trabajando?, ¿cómo sería?
Are you working?
WAS/WERE (I was working, I wasn’t working, were you working?
17Cristina Aranda Barandiain
A ver si lo has entendido…
2
14. ¿Cómo sería el presente perfecto del verbo to work?
I have worked
15. Y como tiene el TO HAVE, ¿qué auxiliar le vamos a poner?
HAVE (have, has)
16. ¿Cómo sería la forma negativa del verbo to work (Yo no he trabajado)?
I haven’t worked
17. Y la pregunta ¿Tú has trabajado?, ¿cómo sería?
Have you worked?
HAD (I had worked, I hadn’t worked, had you worked?

¿Puedo encontrar cosas como éstas?
I don’t doI am beingI have had
Claro, porque os recuerdo que tanto el TO DO, como el TO BE como el TO HAVE significan HACER, SER O ESTAR y TENER además de ser auxiliares.
I don’t do (presente simple negativo: yo no hago) I am being (presente continuo del to be: estoy siendo)I have had (presente perfecto del have: he tenido)
25Cristina Aranda Barandiain

Esa palabra tendrá o no una –S. ¿Quién lleva la –S? HE, SHE, IT
29Cristina Aranda Barandiain
Cristina Aranda Barandiain 30
OR
Normalmente se añade –S a los verbos con HE, SHE, IT.I cook / he cooksI love / he loves
BE ni TO HAVE…
¡TO DO!
Don’t / Doesn’t para negativas
Do / Does para preguntas
PRESENT
+ I workYou workHe/she/it worksWe/you/they work

“Me he roto la pierna” (aún no me he recuperado)
