Spanish Study Case

Grid Code in Spain, published by the TSO Red Eléctrica de España:

“PROCEDIMIENTO DE OPERACIÓN 12.3: REQUISITOS DE RESPUESTA FRENTE A HUECOS DE TENSIÓN DE LAS INSTALACIONES EÓLICAS”

In revision:

“PROCEDIMIENTO DE OPERACIÓN 12.2: INSTALACIONES CONECTADAS A LA RED DE TRANSPORTE: REQUISITOS MÍNIMOS DE DISEÑO, EQUIPAMIENTO, FUNCIONAMIENTO Y SEGURIDAD Y PUESTA EN SERVICIO”

The document can be found at the website:

New version Nr 10 of the Spanish Wind Energy Association document (PVVC_v10) is published in response to the revision of the Spanish Grid Code (P.O.12.3 and draft version of P.O.12.2):

“PROCEDIMIENTOS DE VERIFICACIÓN, VALIDACIÓN Y CERTIFICACIÓN DE LOS REQUISITOS DEL P.O.12.3 SOBRE LA RESPUESTA DE LAS INSTALACIONES EÓLICAS Y FOTOVOLTAICAS ANTE HUECOS DE TENSIÓN”

Example of Dynamic Simulation Testing Procedure

Example of Dynamic Simulation Testing Procedure

STEP 1: Building the Wind farm dynamic model in DIgSILENT PowerFactory 14.1.2

NOTE: this example is built using templates in the global library;

Doubly Fed Induction Generators rated 6MW DFIG_WTG_6MW

Wind Farm Rated Power: 60MVA

Wind Farm Rated Voltage: 220kV

STEP 2: Simulation of LVRT events according to the Spanish Grid Code:

EMT simulation - 10kHz time step

Voltage dip location: at the Wind Farm PCC, 220kV side

Voltage dip depth: 20% (3PH), 60% (2PH)

Voltage dip length: 500ms

RESULTS

In the second tab, a table summarizes the fulfillment of requirements in Zones A, B, C and D.

THE “OK?” OPTION ACTIVATED MEANS THAT THE REQUIREMENT IS FULFILLED

DIgSILENT Ibérica S.L. 16

Example of Dynamic Simulation Testing Procedure

RESULTS

The “REE Voltage Dip Shape” graph allows to check if the voltage dip is “inside” the voltage dip rms envelope the wind farm can not disconnect and must provide reactive current support.

Voltage dip 60% (2PH) Voltage dip 20% (3PH)

DIgSILENT Ibérica S.L. 17

Example of Dynamic Simulation Testing Procedure

RESULTS

The “Ir/Itot(Vrms) Zone B” graph allows to check if the wind farm is injecting or consuming reactive power and fulfilling the requirements established by REE on the reactive current during the dip.

Voltage dip 60% (2PH) Voltage dip 20% (3PH)

DIgSILENT Ibérica S.L. 18

Example of Dynamic Simulation Testing Procedure

RESULTS

The “Power” graph allows to check the restoration of active power of the wind farm after the voltage dip.

Voltage dip 60% (2PH) Voltage dip 20% (3PH)
