Furnace: The liquid melt is heated to 500ºC (in the absence of oxygen to avoid combustion) and changes condition from liquid to gas. Solids are extracted as char.

Double distillation/refinery (Optional) Raw diesel is refined by passing through the hydro cyclone filter and quality control tank. The synthetic gas (‘Syngas’) is reused in the furnace (2).

Sorted and cleaned end - of- life plastic

Plastic Energy (www.plasticenergy.net) uses proven Cynar’s pyrolysis technology (www.cynarplc.com) to convert waste plastic into different type of outputs like TACOIL, high quality synthetic fuels or energy

The Syngas generated from the TAC process is re-utilized in the process to heat the plastic. Overall, 4 – 6 times more energy is produced than is consumed.

A Simple Business Model

•Via ownership of recycling facilities

•Via long term supply agreements

•Engage suppliers as plant shareholders to align interests

Source and Sort

the Waste Plastic

•High 80%+ conversion ratio

•Main outputs are from TACOIL to synthetic diesel (80%) and naphtha/gasoline (20%) or energy

•The core energy cost is reduced by the utilisation of waste synthetic gas in the process

Transform the Plastic

•Term sales at spot price or to the grid

• High quality 1 and ‘car ready’

•Potential EU classification as alternative to biodiesel may yield additional revenues

Sell the Ouput

A typical Cynar-plant can treat modules of 22 metric tons of waste plastic a day, operate up to 335 days per year and produce up to 38,000 barrels of synthetic fuel annually or 4 MW/h

Additional annual benefit: 7,400 metric tons of potential landfill converted into 350 metric tons of actual landfill. 2

1 Low sulphur and high combustion efficiency 2 The ‘char’ residue may be sold to cement companies reducing landfill even further

The technology is robust and accepts all classes of plastics but defined types are preferable (2, 4, 5 and 6 below).

Acceptable? Preferred?

Polyethelene Terephthelate

PET Beverage bottles, medicine jars, rope, clothing and carpet fibre 15% PET has a market value to recyclers and low hydro carbon content so is not preferred.

Plastic production growth

Plastic production by Region

Overall plastics manufacturing is growing exponentially with an increasing amount of plastics consumed (and disposed of)

in Europe and produced elsewhere.

There is no secondary market for most waste plastic and recycling rates are generally low. An estimated 45% of European production is currently incinerated or dumped as landfill.
