Engage Your Heart Through Service To Others

Companions in Ignatian Service and Spirituality (www.ignatiancompanions.org) is a unique program that involves women and men, retired and semi-retired, who have a desire to serve the poor in our communities while deepening their spiritual foundations. As an endorsed work of the California Province of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), our 10-month program operates from September-June each year and is hosted by Most Holy Trinity Parish (San Jose). Join us at one of our upcoming Information Sessions at Most Holy Trinity: this Wednesday at 7:00pm in the Community Room. For more information contact: [email protected], 415-375-0622, http://www.ignatiancompanions.org/

Several weeks ago we took up a special collection to assist the poor in our country through the services of Catholic Charities. In a recent letter to our community from Gregory Kepferle, CEO of Catholic Charities, he writes: Our final figures from the 2014 Catholic Charities Appeal are in, and I am delighted to let you know that the total contributions made to Catholic Charities by the generous members of Most Holy Trinity Parish were $11,853.79. This amount includes contributions collected at the weekend Masses during the Appeal weekend as well as gifts mailed to Catholic Charities by donors identifying themselves as members of Most Holy Trinity Parish during the Appeal. Also, the latest numbers for the ADA are in. Most Holy Trinity has reached 117.53% of our goal with 901 parishioners participating. Be sure to pay off your pledge! Thank you for your generosity!

Fr Bob

Padre Bob

THE ROCK Peter was Jesus’ choice to lead the fragile band of apostles. In today’s Gospel, Simon is given a new name—Peter, the “rock.” In John’s Gospel, Peter is called to be a shepherd. He is expected to lay down his life for his sheep. And tradition tells us that he did just that. But today we think about the durable rocklike quality that Jesus needed in a leader. Peter was appointed to his leadership position for reasons we are not able to fathom. God knows, and Jesus knew well, that Peter was flawed. We cannot mistake his enthusiasms, though, his manifest love, and his great, exuberant faith. Those virtues saw him through. They are durable, tough, beautiful virtues. They make Peter a sympathetic and lovable person. They provide us with the balance and humor that we need as we consider our own roles in the universal church. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

For Your Safety We wanted to bring it to your attention that we had a few cars broken into in the last few week. Make sure that when you come to mass or to any event on campus that you do not leave your valuables in plain sight. Please do not transfer them to or from any part of you vehicle while you are here. One suggestion we have is to leave them at home or transfer them before you leave your home. Let’s not give anyone the temptation to break into your car.

August 24, 2014 August is National Immunization Awareness Month

We all need shots (also called vaccinations or immunizations) to help protect us from serious diseases. Shots can prevent serious diseases like the flu, measles, and whooping cough. It’s important to know which shots you need and when to get them. Everyone age 6 months and older needs to get a flu shot every year. Other shots work best when they are given at certain ages. • If you have a child age 6 or younger, find out which shots

your child needs. Contact your child’s Pediatrician – she can review your shot record.

• Find out which shots adults and teenagers need. Kids 10-11 years old should get Tdap and Meningococcal.

• Adults need Tdap and Shingles vaccines. • If you are pregnant, it is now recommended for mother’s

to receive the Tdap vaccine. This helps protect your baby from getting whooping cough.

Everyone age 6 months and older needs a flu vaccine – be sure to get it early before the flu season begins. MHT Health Ministry will work with Walgreens Pharmacy to bring the Flu Vaccines to our church during the Parish Festival in September – date and time to be announced in the next few weeks TODAY IS HEALTH SUNDAY – BE SURE TO COME TO THE TRINITY CENTER AFTER MASS SUNDAY MORNING FOR YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE AND BLOOD SUGAR CHECKS.
