Wisdom is precisely this: To see the world, to see situations, circumstances, problems, everything through God’s eyes. Pope Francis

Avoid a Throwaway Culture with guidance from Pope Francis

1. Responsible Consumption: Everything has been entrusted to our protection, and all of us are responsible for it. Be protectors of God’s gifts.

2. Culture of Solidarity: We must never allow the throwaway culture to enter our hearts, because we are brothers and sisters. No one is disposable.

3. Culture of Encounter: A person dying is not news. But, if the stock markets drop 10 points, it is a tragedy! Thus people are disposed of as if they were trash.

4. Life in Balance: Do not bury your talents! Set your stakes on great ideals, the ideals that enlarge the heart, the ideals of service that make your talents fruitful.

Deepening Our Faith Today we are all farmers. The first reading, psalm, and Gospel all offer us farming metaphors. As the first reading speaks of God’s word going forth, the Gospel speaks of how God’s word is received. As Jesus says, “Whoever has ears ought to hear.” So let us reflect on the lavishness of God’s love, tossing seeds everywhere, greatly increasing the chance that some will take root and transform the world. Let us be receptive soil today! What kind of soil have I been this past week? How can I become better soil this week?
