Avilés combines its aspect of medieval and industrial city, with
one of the most important old quarter of the cantabric coastline which has been declared Historic-
Artistic Site.In a wonderful walk for its streets you can find churches such as San Nicolas de Bari or palaces such as
Valdecarzana
HISTORY
• The first settlers of Aviles put a date on prehistoric. Rests found, such as Trelles axe, are preserved at National Archaeological Museum.
• Subsequently it was conquered by Rome.• During the Middle Ages, Aviles´ harbour was
one of the most important of the Cantabrico. Its trade was very important too.
• In the XIX century, Frenchemen destroyed Aviles.
• Today Aviles is a modern city which conserves perfectly its old quarter.
La Ferrería
• In the old days was known by Rua Nueva.• It´s considered the oldest street of this city.• There were lots of blacksmithes
Valdecarzana
• It´s populary knwon by the House of Baragañas.
• I´ts the oldest civil building of Aviles.• It was built in the XIV century and it´s located
on Ferrería´s street.• It has a gotic arquitecture• Nowadays it is the venue of the Municipal
File.
