    Food Safety Certification Training & ExamSponsored by SF Environmental Health, DPH

    Who Should be Certified?California Food Safety Law requires at least one employee

    at each retail food facility be food safety certified by

    passing an approved examination. The certified person is

    responsible for safe food handling and teaching otheremployees proper food handling techniques. Certification is

    valid for 5 years.

    Topics Covered in the Training:The intensive all-day training covers causes of food

    poisoning, prevention, time & temperature controls, cross

    contamination, cleaning & sanitizing and pest control

    Participation in the training does not guarantee passing ofthe exam.

    CLASS INFORMATIONAll classes are held at 1390 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94102.Each 8-hour class starts at 8:30amandusually (but not always) ends at5:00pm. Classes are offered in English and Spanish languages, as indicated on theschedule however, if you are enrolled in an English class and you would like to take the WRITTEN exam in

    Vietnamese, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, or Japanese, you must CIRCLE that language on the Name Line of the registration

    form and enroll for class in advance. Choose your class date carefully before applying: Make arrangements with your

    workplace and with your family, and mark your calendar. Once you are enrolled into a class, you may reschedule to

    another date after paying a penalty of $45, unless you have proof of a family emergency or verifiable medical condition.

    If you enroll for the all-day class, course study materials and your enrollment confirmation letter will be sent to yourmailing address. No study materials will be sent if you enroll for Exam Only. If you have any questions, call FoodSafety Secretary Nancy Thomas at 415- 252-3845.
