• Introduce Power Consumption (kWh), PUE, Availability and Tiers of data centers
• Introduce DC power redundancy configurations
Objectives

Power Consumption (for a IT load of 140kW in a PUE=2 Data Center
140kW x 2.0 x 365 x 24/12 = 204,400kWh (4 apartment blocks, 408 households)

POWER USAGE EFFECTIVENESS (PUE)

Reduction of PUE from 2.0 to 1.5 – monthly savings of S$10,220 (S$0.20 per kWh x 70kW x 24 x 365 /12)

AVAILABILITY OF DATA CENTER
Watch out for the denominator! Availability is 100% even if unplanned is 0 when planned is > 0. Some providers compute using this formula in their SLA!
![Page 9: SG Presentation (2016)](https://reader035.vdocumento.com/reader035/viewer/2022081604/58785a3c1a28ab18098b4ead/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
• Tier Levels (based on Uptime Institute)• Tier 4 – Highest (full redundancy), 99.995% availability• Tier 3 – 2nd highest (redundant on capacitive components, dual-power equipment, uplinks), 99.982%
availability• Tier 2 – 3rd highest (redundant on capacitive components), 99.741% availability• Tier 1 – Lowest (no redundancy), 99.671% availability
TIER LEVELS (1-4)

• Develop DC/Hub Room Requirement Document• Inputs from DC team, Network team and Telecom team
• Incorporate into bid document
• Evaluate bidders
• Successful bidder -> General Contractor
• Objective, Plan, Implement & Control• Facility meeting (with General Contractor)• IT meeting (with Network, Telecom, IT vendors such as cabling, UPS)• Reports + Photos• Test plans (fail-over)
