El comienzo de un nuevo año escolar está siempre lleno

de entusiasmo: nuevos amigos, nuevos profesores y nuevos desafíos. Sus

maestros también esperan enseñar a nuevos estudiantes que hagan preguntas

difíciles, asegurando que ellos también aprenderán nuevos conceptos.

Comenzamos este año escolar con los valores de valentía y coraje, una actitud

de hacer frente a los problemas y no aceptar renunciar como una opción. Los

adultos parecen pasar más tiempo creando problemas que resolviéndolos, pero

hay numerosos ejemplos de niños y adolescentes que con dedicación y

responsabilidad han encontrado soluciones que realmente funcionan.

En la revista Sierra leí sobre dos chicas de duodécimo grado que descubrieron

una bacteria que come plástico y puede ayudar a eliminar uno de los mayores

contaminadores de la sociedad - los millones de bolsas de plástico. Por

supuesto, una mejor idea sería utilizar bolsas de la compra y no las de plástico

que nos dan en las tiendas. Muchos estudiantes del New Horizons participaron

en la limpieza de costas el sábado pasado, pero todos están de acuerdo en que

sería mejor si la gente no llenara nuestras playas de basura.

Nuestro medio ambiente está en estado crítico. La excusa de que yo soy sólo

una persona y no puedo hacer una diferencia simplemente no es verdad. Como

dicen los chinos "Un viaje de mil millas comienza con un paso". Sólo con los

miembros de New Horizons se puede hacer un gran impacto en muchas áreas de

la reducción, reutilización y reciclaje, pero asimismo cada miembro de la familia

tiene que estar convencido de su importancia en la solución del problema. Estoy

segura de que todo el mundo va a hacer su parte y que nunca más pondrá las

botellas de plástico en el contenedor de basura equivocado.

The beginning of a new school year is always filled with excitement – new friends,

new teachers, and new challenges. Your teachers also look forward to teaching

new students who will ask challenging questions assuring that they will also be

learning new concepts.

We began this school year with the values of bravery and courage, an attitude of

tackling the problems head-on and not accepting quitting as an option. Adults

seem to spend more time creating problems than solving them, but there are

numerous examples of children and teens who with dedication and responsibility

have found solutions that really work.

In Sierra magazine I read about two twelfth grade girls who discovered a bacteria

that eats plastic and can help eliminate one of society’s greatest polluters – those

millions of plastic bags. Of course a better idea is to use shopping bags and not

get the plastic ones at the stores. Many New Horizons students participated in

beach clean-up last Saturday but they all agree it would be better if people did not

fill the beach with garbage.

Our environment is in critical condition. The excuse that I am just one person and

cannot make a difference is simply not true. As the Chinese say ”A journey of a

thousand miles begins with one step”. Just with the members of New Horizons we

can make a huge impact in many areas of reducing, reusing and recycling, but

every member of the family has to be convinced of their importance in solving the

problem. I am sure that everyone is going to do their part and never put the plastic

bottles in the wrong trash bin.

En el mes de agosto iniciamos el año escolar para todos los

niveles. Los primeros en integrarse a la jornada fueron los

alumnos de 9no a 12mo, quienes entraron con energías

recargadas! Luego le siguieron los alumnos de 5to a 8vo, luego

de 1ro a 4to y por último los pequeñitos de Toddlers hasta Pre-

primario.

Los alumnos de 3ro realizaron divertidos experimentos en el laboratorio.

Los alumnos de 12mo en un partido de ¨baronazo¨ durante el recreo.

Courage is a universal value that teaches

us to stand up for what is worthwhile, to

master our fears and overcome adversity.

Without courage, in difficult times our

lives could drift, however the inner

strength driven by conscience, can take us

further than we could imagine.

Being brave is an attitude and a decision to

feel the fear that exists in adversity and

still move forward.

Why are we concerned about teaching the

value of "Courage", and training in the

Habit of Mind “Striving for Accuracy “to

our children?

Courage is a value that we live every day,

with the small and big decisions we

make. If we encourage our children and

youth in all that this value implies,

then we are training people able to create

change in the world in which

we live, who dare to achieve their goals.

This definitely is closely linked to the

objective of striving to achieve

precision and accuracy that involves acting

with full awareness and

determination of the objective

sought and act to achieve it.

Nuestro inicio de año escolar fue bastante

activo, el área deportiva arrancó con un

intercambio amistoso de Fútsal y Baloncesto

con los colegios Ashton School y La Salle de

Santiago. A pesar de la lluvia, tanto los

equipos como el público estuvieron muy

animados!

En Fútsal femenino, el colegio Ashton quedó

en 1er lugar, La Salle en 2do y New Horizons

en 3ro. En Fútsal masculino, New Horizons

resultó ganador en 1er lugar, la Salle en 2do y

Ashton en 3ro.

En Baloncesto la puntuación quedó así:

Intermedio:

New Horizons 50 - La Salle. 53

New Horizons 47 - La Salle 40

Juvenil:

New Horizons 85 - la Salle 77

El cuarto juego se suspendió por lluvia y New

Horizons juvenil estaba ganando.

The older generations did not have the

privilege of the advantages offered by the digital

development age, which began several decades ago, and

which for the Dominican Republic began in 1995 with

the introduction of the Internet.

We have swiftly moved from a very long period of rustic

button pushing to the digital era. Things were very

different before: the disk dial of a telephone have

evolved into the Smartphone, and computers have

become ever so compact and portable. The era of online

shopping, of video calls, of permanent connectivity, and

of a long list of wireless devices have converted humans

into omnipresent beings, no matter where they are.

Education in this day and age is no stranger to this

evolution. Our children and youth are a product of this

information age; therefore, ILTAE as an educational

institution has the social responsibility to provide them

with the necessary tools to develop and flourish in the

society of the future.

ILTAE is both a teaching and learning center. And

understanding that the new generations learn

differently, we have created a digital space for learning.

Beyond their conventional classrooms, students have the

virtual classrooms, where they can access any time of the

day, from any point on the planet, through any wired or

wireless device, though our web page.

Our student population has an ID and password to access

their accounts and all the different learning activities

designed exclusively to meet their needs.

Through our Virtual Classroom, English learning is

easier and fun, with chats and forums in real time,

homework, questionnaires, crossword puzzles,

glossaries, exams, wikis, etc. But what makes it even

more interesting is that kids use audio and video to

complete exercises, thus motorizing their learning skills

even further. The combination of live classes with

activities from the virtual classroom is the perfect recipe

to teach English as a second language to kids that are

already living in the future.

Nuevo edificio East Wing

Estamos muy orgullosos de presentarles nuestro nuevo proyecto de

ampliación, el cual iniciaremos a finales de este año. Nuestro

objetivo con este nuevo edificio es continuar brindándoles la mayor

comodidad, mejores instalaciones y más espacio para el desarrollo

de toda nuestra comunidad New Horizons!

DESCRIPCION DEL PROYECTO:

La edificación para fines educativos consta de 10 niveles de 1,574

M2 de construcción cada uno y un 11no piso que alberga un aula de

80 M2 para impartir clases de Astronomia junto a un Observatorio

Astronómico.

El edificio alberga un su primer nivel un área de parqueos con

capacidad para 55 vehículos, 2do. Nivel oficinas de Registro,

Admisiones, Caja General y Bookshop, así como también un total de

62 aulas de 72 M2 cada una, 2 aulas especiales con capacidad para 50

alumnos, 5 laboratorios de informática y 3 laboratorios de Ciencias.

Un gran Salón de Conferencias en el 9no. Piso de 834.34M2 y un

mezzanine a nivel del 10mo piso de 284.81 M2

En el 9no y 10mo piso estarán destinados a las oficinas

Administrativas y Dirección Financiera.
