Classes will be given out as home based learning. Parents will receive a phone call from the Religious education Office for registrations. Classes will be given by parents with guidance from Mariazinha, Liz and catechists. Children in grades 1-10 will receive a monthly package with weekly lessons and activities regarding each season of the Church. The Parish Office will provide all materials needed for parents to work with their child at home.

We need anything you can provide but also things they mostly ask for like: pasta, tomato sauce, peanut butter, jam or jelly, corn in can, tuna, sug-ar, coffee, salt, oil, etc… If you would like to donate some hygiene items we also accept, like: tooth paste and brushes, hair brushes and soaps. Poderá acontecer na Igreja depois da missa ou em outro lugar onde o doente fisicamente se en-

contra. Encorajamos as pessoas responsáveis pelos doentes a não esperar até ao último momento para contactar o Sac-erdote. O ultimo sacramento deve ser o Viaticum, ou Co-munhão pelos moribundos.

Anointing of the Sick The church encourages & invites all who are ill, who are to undergo surgery, or who are confined to their home due to illness to be prayed over & anointed with sacred oil. This can take place after Mass, at home or at the hospital. Please do not wait for the last moment for yourself or a loved one to be anointed. The last sacrament is Viaticum or commun-ion for the dying. Please speak to a priest for anointing.

By Dr. Scott Hahn Easter Sunday (Cycle B) The tomb was empty. In the early morning darkness of that first Easter, there was only confusion for Mary Magdalene and the other disciples. But as the daylight spread, they saw the dawning of a new crea-tion. At first they didn't understand the Scripture, to-day's Gospel tells us. We don't know which precise Scripture texts they were supposed to understand. Perhaps it was the sign of Jonah, who rose from the belly of the great fish after three days (see Jonah 1:17). Or maybe Hosea's prophecy of Israel's restora-tion from exile (see Hosea 6:2). Perhaps it was the psalmist who rejoiced that God had not abandoned him to the nether world (see Psalm 16:9-10). Whichever Scripture it was, as the disciples bent down into the tomb, they saw and they believed. What did they see? Burial shrouds in an empty tomb. The stone removed from the tomb. Seven times in nine verses we hear that word - "tomb." What did they believe? That God had done what Jesus said He would do - raised Him up on the third day (see Mark 9:31; 10:34). What they saw and believed, they bore witness to, as today's First Reading tells us. Peter's speech is a summary of the gospels - from Jesus' baptism in the Jordan to His hanging on a tree (see Deuteronomy 21:22-23), to His rising from the dead. We are children of the apostles, born into the new world of their witness. Our lives are now "hidden with Christ in God," as today's Epistle says. Like them, we gather in the morning on the first day of the week - to celebrate the Eucharist, the feast of the empty tomb. We rejoice that the stones have been rolled away from our tombs, too. Each of us can shout, as we do in today's Psalm: "I shall not die, but live." They saw and believed. And we await the day they promised would come - when we, too, "will ap-pear with Him in glory."

27º Domingo do Tempo Comum A liturgia do 27º Domingo do Tempo Comum utiliza a imagem da “vinha de Deus” para falar desse Povo que aceita o desafio do amor de Deus e que se coloca ao serviço de Deus. Desse Povo, Deus exige frutos de amor, de paz, de justiça, de bondade e de misericórdia. Na primeira leitura, o profeta Isaías dá conta do amor e da solicitude de Deus pela sua “vinha”. Esse amor e essa solicitude não podem, no en-tanto, ter como contrapartida frutos de egoísmo e de injustiça… O Povo de Jahwéh tem de deixar-se transformar pelo amor sempre fiel de Deus e produzir os fru-tos bons que Deus aprecia – a justiça, o direito, o respeito pelos mandamentos, a fidelidade à Ali-ança. No Evangelho, Jesus retoma a imagem da “vinha”. Critica fortemente os líderes judaicos que se apropriaram em benefício próprio da “vinha de Deus” e que se recusaram sempre a oferecer a Deus os frutos que Lhe eram devidos. Jesus anuncia que a “vinha” vai ser-lhes retirada e vai ser confiada a trabalhadores que produzam e que entreguem a Deus os frutos que Ele espera. Na segunda leitura, Paulo exorta os cristãos da cidade grega de Filipos – e todos os que fazem parte da “vinha de Deus” – a viverem na alegria e na serenidade, respeitando o que é verdadeiro, nobre, justo e digno. São esses os frutos que Deus espera da sua “vinha”.

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle A) In today's Gospel Jesus returns to the Old Testament symbol of the vineyard to teach about Israel, the Church, and the kingdom of God. And the symbolism of today's First Reading and Psalm is readily understood. God is the owner and the house of Israel is the vineyard. A cherished vine, Israel was plucked from Egypt and transplanted in a fertile land specially spaded and prepared by God, hedged about by the city walls of Jerusalem, watched over by the towering Temple. But the vineyard pro-duced no good grapes for the wine, a symbol for the holy lives God wanted for His people. So God al-lowed His vineyard to be overrun by foreign in-vaders, as Isaiah foresees in the First Reading. Jesus picks up the story where Isaiah leaves off, even using Isaiah's words to describe the vineyard's wine press, hedge, and watchtower. Israel's religious lead-ers, the tenants in His parable, have learned nothing from Isaiah or Israel's past. Instead of producing good fruits, they've killed the owner's servants, the prophets sent to gather the harvest of faithful souls. In a dark foreshadowing of His own crucifixion out-side Jerusalem, Jesus says the tenants' final outrage will be to seize the owner's son, and to kill him out-side the vineyard walls. For this, the vineyard, which Jesus calls the kingdom of God, will be taken away and given to new tenants - the leaders of the Church, who will produce its fruit. We are each a vine in the Lord's vineyard, grafted onto the true vine of Christ (see John 15:1-8), called to bear fruits of the righteousness in Him (see Philip-pians 1:11), and to be the "first fruits" of a new crea-tion (see James 1:18). We need to take care that we don't let ourselves be overgrown with the thorns and briers of worldly anx-iety. As today's Epistle advises, we need to fill our hearts and minds with noble intentions and virtuous deeds, rejoicing always that the Lord is near.

Prayer to St. Gabriel for strength during suffering

Tradition says the Archangel comforted Jesus when he was suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane.

St. Gabriel is one of the few archangels mentioned by name in the Bible. He is recorded in the book of Daniel in the Old Testament as well as in the Gospels at the Annunciation, when he delivered the good news of Jesus’ birth to the Virgin Mary. He is often called the “angel of mercy,” because his few appearances in the Bible are matched with messages of conso-lation. Christian tradition claims that St. Gabriel is the angel who appeared to Jesus while he was suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane.

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.” And to strengthen him an angel from heaven appeared to him. (Luke 22:42-43)

The Catholic Encyclopedia explains that, “Gabriel is mentioned only twice in the New Testament, but it is not un-reasonable to suppose with Christian tradition that it is he who … “strengthened” Our Lord in the garden (cf. the Hymn for Lauds on 24 March).” This tradition also corresponds with the name of “Gabriel,” which is translated as, “God is my strength.” Here is an adapted prayer from the The Prayer-book of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri that invokes St. Gabriel’s help in the midst of suffering. O Gabriel, might of God, who announced to the Virgin Mary the incarnation of the only Son of God, and in the garden consoled and strengthen Christ op-pressed with fear and sorrow; I give honor to you, O chosen Archangel, and humbly pray to you to be my advocate with Jesus Christ my Savior, and with Mary His Blessed Virgin Mother; in all my trials assist me, lest I be overcome by temptation and may I give praise and thanksgiving to my God in all things. Amen.

During times of great suffering, Christians have al-ways turned to God and those saints closest to him, in hopes that he will bring relief to his people.
