Pastor’s Message ~ Mensaje del Párroco: ANHELAMOS VER EL ROSTRO DE DIOS

“Esta es la raza de los que buscan tu ros-tro Señor”. Esta antífona para el salmo responsorial de hoy brinda el tono de la lecturas de hoy. Cuando en la tierra cele-bramos la victoria de todos los santos, de los que están canonizados oficialmente por la Iglesia y de los sinnúmero que tam-bién han llegado al cielo, no sumamos nada a su gloria. Sino que recibimos un motivo más para tener esperanzas. Noso-

tros, también, anhelamos ver el rostro de Dios y creemos que un día podremos estar entre aquellos cuyas túnicas, como nos dice Juan en el libro del Apocalipsis, han sido la-vadas y blanqueadas “con la sangre del Cordero”.

El pasaje de la primera carta del apóstol San Juan nos garantiza que somos hijos de Dios y un día veremos a Dios tal cual es. Pero el Evangelio de hoy nos hace pasar del anhelo y la certeza a la acción. Jesús nos dice claramente qué debemos hacer para estar entre los santos. Debemos ser pobres de espíritu, misericordiosos, limpios de co-razón, tener hambre y sed de justicia y trabajar por la paz. Entonces, nosotros también veremos el rostro de Dios. Copyright © J. S. GOSPEL: Matthew 5: 1-12a This reading from the Gospel of Matthew contains the Be-atitudes. These statements are a summary of the way to sainthood for all the thousands and thousands of people who have followed Jesus faithfully. They show how the followers of Jesus today are to live for God's kingdom. All the rewards promised here will have their fulfillment in God's kingdom in heaven. Jesus calls us all to holiness. By following the teach-ings of Jesus and the Church, celebrating the sacraments, and trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the way to heaven lies open for us. Our journey of faith may not be an easy one. There will be many hardships and challenges along the way. But if we walk humbly with our God, we will one day reach the place of justice and peace where God reigns for-ever. 1.) The Beatitudes show us that God knows about all the suf-fering and pain in the world. They also show us how God wants us to respond to it: with mercy, with peacemaking, with a hunger and thirst for holiness (right living and justice). The Beatitudes give us a hint of what we pray for when we pray "Your kingdom come." The Beatitudes are not just for the saints of long ago. They are for us today. 2.) How will you show mercy today? How will you make peace?

EVANGELIO: Mateo 5: 1-12a ¿Cómo llegan a ser santas las personas? Compartiendo las actitudes de Jesús. El evangelio de hoy nos habla de las Beatitudes, guías dadas por Jesús para alcanzar la santidad y la felicidad. Estas sorprendentes guías nos recuerdan que las actitudes de Jesús son exactamente lo opuesto a las ac-titudes del mundo. El no dice: "benditos los poderosos", o "benditos los que conquistan a sus enemigos." Jesús insiste en que la verdadera felicidad llega a los que confían en Dios y hacen la voluntad de Dios. Las Beatitudes nos desafían a ser misericordiosos, fieles, santos y dedicados a la justicia y la paz. ¿Cómo puedes actuar para demostrar una o más de estas actitudes de Jesús? 1.) ¿Por qué crees que la multitud estaba irritada con el comportamiento del mendigo? 2.) ¿Qué experiencias tienes de personas que han sido avergonzadas por personas que son diferentes?

Reflections ~ Reflexiones:

WE LONG TO SEE GOD’S FACE “Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.” This antiphon for today’s responsorial psalm of-fers the focus for today’s readings. As we on earth celebrate the tri-umph of all the saints—the ones officially canonized by the Church, and the countless others who have also reached heaven—we add nothing to their glory. But we give

ourselves reason to hope. We too long to see the face of God and believe that we can one day be counted among those whose robes, as John tells us in the book of Revelation, are washed “white in the blood of the Lamb.” The passage from John’s First Letter offers further assurance: we are God’s children who will one day see God. But today’s Gospel pulls us past longing and re-assurance into action. Jesus clearly tells us what we must do to be counted among the saints. We must be poor in spirit, hungry for holiness, merciful, single-hearted, and peacemakers! Then we too will see the face of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

For your Information: International Night: It’s that wonderful time of year again! On Saturday, November 7th, we will be hav-ing our 18th Annual International Night Dinner! During this evening, we have an all you can eat menu of: African-American, Chinese, Filipino, Hispanic, Irish, Italian foods and dessert! In addi-tion to the great food, we have amazing entertainment from different cultures. This is one of the wonderful ways we celebrate our diversity. This is one of the two major Parish fund raising events each year. If you have never been to one, we hope you will join us this year! We are also asking for your help. We are asking for raffle prizes. Please contact the Parish Office. Dinner tickets for adults are $25 and $12 for children under 12 years of age. Raffle tickets are $25 for a booklet of 6. The first prize will be $2,000!! Dinner and Raffle tickets will be on sale outside after Mass! Giving Tree: With Unemployment and low wages in-creasing, many families may not be able to afford Christmas gifts for their chil-dren this year. If you need help with pre-sents for your children, please phone the Parish office and leave your name, phone number, address and the names, ages, genders and sizes of your children before November 25th. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society will deliver the gifts from the Giving Tree before Christmas.

Dear Parishioners; In an effort to assist in your partici-pation at our masses we are in the process of completing plans to install projectors in the church. This will allow us to project responses and songs for the masses as well as announcements before and after masses. No screens are required so when not in use it will not be that visible. We would like to keep the building funds raised by my 40th celebration to be eventually used to complete our needed roof repairs. If you would like to join three of your fel-low parishioners who have made pledges of $500.00 each and donate for this project please let me know. Any donation is appreciated.
