According to Arsenault, the immigrants fleeing to Colombia are some of the most desperate. Because Venezuela and Colombia share a border, it is geographically convenient to immigrate there. It is also legally easy (compared to other possible destinations). Therefore, people who can’t afford to go to another country are immigrating to Colombia. As a result, these immigrants increasingly can’t afford to sustain themselves; the level of poverty among immigrants is high. Furthermore, the Cucuta hospital has gone into debt caring for Venezuelans in poor health, and diseases like measles have come back to the country; there already have been 76 cases.

Nevertheless, Joe Parkin Daniels of The Guardian notes that Venezuelans prefer the refugee camps to the poverty of Venezuela, where there “was no food” on the shelves of supermarkets at times. Another ProblemDue to the crisis, the level of scrutiny and criticism for the Maduro Regime has increased. More and more, his abuse of power is standing out to the world. Florida Senator Marco Rubio accused Maduro of “systematically starving his people as a means of asserting control” in a Miami Herald article. President Trump, according to Megan Janetsky of USA Today, said “We are going to take care of Venezuela.” Afterwards, Maduro positioned troops on the Colombian border. Recently, Colombia has changed its position, allowing for U.S. military action in Venezuela. Because of the growing tension, it is possible that a small disagreement might start an prolonged armed conflict. This would mean that it would be impossible to cross the border, plunging the lives of many venezuelans – and the whole region – into chaos.

How to Make it:1. Cut the potatoes into thin slices (they should be medium sized)2. Place plenty of oil in a pan over high heat 3. Add all the potatoes as soon as the oil is warm - cook for five minutes 4. Cut the onion into juliennes

5. After the five minutes, add the onion to the pan, stirring gently6. Add a little salt, lower the heat to the minimum and cover the pan, leaving a minimum opening so the steam can escape7. Leave it for 15-20 minutes - stirring gently from time to time 8. Strain the potatoes, leaving them in a sieve until all the oil comes down 9. Place the 4 eggs in a bowl with a little salt - beat them for a few minutes 10. Add the potatoes and onions to a bowl - beat until everything is integrated

11. Add a dash of oil into a pan - place the pan on high heat

12. Add the mixture from the bowl and stir the pan for 30 seconds13. Place a plate on top of the pan and turn it over - correct the edges again with the spatula and cook for 3-4 more minutes 15. To remove it, place the plate on the pan again as we did in the previous point and flip it back carefully

Two years ago in the spring, I traveled from Boston to Xi’an,

China! I decided to study abroad in China because not only did

I want to become more fluent at speaking Chinese, but I also

wanted to be exposed to Chinese culture and see

famous historical sites. I think that the

hardest aspect of it was talking with

Chinese natives, because I was often

nervous and introverted. In addition, I was

afraid that I wouldn’t be able to understand

what they said. However, I learned how to

become a more extroverted person. In

Xi’an, I spent a lot of time at my Chinese

sister’s high school. We attended the

Chinese students classes in the

morning, but later, we had special culture classes. Sometimes

we did art, sometimes we cooked Chinese dishes, sometimes we

listened to lectures on Chinese tradition while taking notes.

Every Saturday, all the American students went to Xi’an’s

famous attractions. For example, we went to the Giant Wild

Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the Terracotta

Warriors, and many beautiful parks. I still want to study

Chinese, so I hope in the future I can go to China again!

learned, by Jupiter, and weighty! For that reason have for yourself whatever this little book

is,and whatever you like, oh patron maiden,
