Programme- Week 1 & 2

Introduction to families to discuss any student requirements and help “settle in” English language classes; based on language needs for school life in IrelandBuy uniform / organise Irish telephone numberBuy any necessary school suppliesTour of area to help student familiarise themselves with school, town etc.

Programme- Week 3

First day of school; representative accompanies the student in the morning of school enrolment Introduce the student to the school principal, form tutor and school “buddy” A book list is given to each student by the end of the second school week (included in price)Student and representative buy/avail of the books and make sure that the student has all necessary supplies

Weeks 4 - 13

Student integration into Irish school and home lifeMeet with Tara Placements representative every 3 weeksDuring mid-term break 26/10/15 – 30/10/15 we recommend that students stay in Ireland to rest and spend time with their Irish families and friends

Irish Home lifeResponsibility - The Irish try to raise their children to be independent from an early age. Therefore children are given chores that they are responsible for. Please encourage your child to understand that having a chore and carrying out this chore is a very important and rewarding part of family life.Integration - Feeling part of the family is as important for your child as it is for the host family. Please encourage your child to partake in as many family activities as possible. This can be a little daunting at the beginning but it will be worth it in the long run. Watching a film with the host family on “Movie night” even if you don’t understand a thing can make a big difference to the general sense of family togetherness.“Make yourself at home” - This is a common phrase in Ireland. We don’t like being formal. We are happiest when people feel comfortable in our homesRespect - Please remember that your child will be expected to adhere to the family schedule. Each family has their own habits and customs, eating times and house rules.

School Rules in IrelandPunctuality - There is a zero tolerance policy for students who turn up late for class.

Homework - All students are required to do all of their homework every day. Foreign students are expected to attempt the homework at the very least.

Smoking - Smoking in the school building is not permitted at any time and is punishable by law. It is not permitted to leave the school building or grounds between classes to smoke.

Behaviour - Children are not permitted to speak during class or interrupt their teachers. Children are expected to be quiet and walk in an orderly fashion when in the school corridors. Foreign students have to integrate into the class – teachers cannot dedicate all their time to one student.

Results - In Ireland the minimum pass rate is 40%. Foreign students are expected to pass their class tests.

Sports/School Clubs - Most schools offer students the chance to partake in sporting activities as well as after-school clubs. We advise students to get involved in one or two activities as it enriches the school experience.

After-School Activities

Please note – some after-school activities may have an additional cost. If your child is interested in partaking in after- school activities; sports / home work club/ drama / music we can help to organise this but the cost may be extra.We strongly recommend your child to partake in local sports/ clubs in order to feel part of the community and make new friends

A Typical Day in IrelandPrimero me levanto sobre las 7:40, me visto, desayuno, me lavo los dientes y sobre las 8:15 salgo de casa para coger el autobús a las 8:20, sobre las 8:45 estamos en el cole, y vamos a las taquillas a cambiar/ recoger libros, a las 9:00 tenemos la asamblea de todos los días (5 min) después tenemos clase hasta las 11:00 que tenemos un break de 10min después tenemos otra vez clase hasta la 1:10 que tenemos otro break de 40 min para comer, y después clase hasta las 3:50 y acto seguido cogemos el bus para ir a casa. Cenamos sobre las 4:30 y hacemos deberes, luego me ducho y veo la tele o estoy con el Ipad.

¿Qué te ha gustado más de Irlanda? Lo que más me ha gustado de Irlanda ha sido la gente que hay aquí, todos mis amigos del cole son majísimos, las playas son preciosas, y los bosques alucinantes. Hay un montón de vistas que son geniales.¿Qué es lo menos te ha gustado de Irlanda? Lo que menos me ha gustado es a veces el tiempo, porque llueve mucho y la comida es un poco bastante diferente, al principio cuesta pero luego ya me acostumbré.

¿Cuáles son las cosas que más te han extrañado de Irlanda?

Lo que mas me ha extrañado es principalmente el colegio y los horarios.El colegio es súper diferente, desde los cambios de clases, las taquillas, la alarma etc... Los horarios, son también muy diferentes: los irlandeses llaman noche a las 5 de la tarde y cenan a esa hora.

¿Qué recomendaciones darías a otra alumna española que venía para pasar un trimestre en IrlandaYo recomendaría que levara los cuadernos y el material necesarios, que preguntara antes de utilizar el WiFi, que llevara pijama gordo y caliente y que disfrutara.
