THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

4 204

St. Paul was facing death. He tells us that his departure is near. We know from history that he was beheaded. He tells us that his life is being poured out like a libation. In ancient times a libation was the pouring of a sacred liquid like oil, wine, water and sometimes blood as an act of consecration and/or sacrifice. The sacred liquid comes from God and the pouring of it was an offering back to God. Paul is speaking that his life and the shedding of his blood, like the life of Jesus Christ, is a living sacrifice to the proclamation of the Gospel. He displays great faith and hope in the promise of eternal life. “I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me.” During his trial he tells us that ‘everyone deserted me.” He continues, “But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength.” These are powerful words for us today. We may have felt abandoned, alone, overwhelmed by our circumstances, or perhaps even facing death. These feelings can lead to discouragement, despair and hopelessness. Yet, we are reminded God stands by us and gives us strength. A regular consistent prayer life reminds us of this truth. On Tuesday of this week, Bishop Schlert is coming to St. Anthony to administer the sacrament of Confirmation where our students will receive the Holy Spirit in a deeper and renewed way. Let us remember them in our prayers but also reflect on your own Confirmation. The Holy Spirit dwells within us. We are never alone! God stands by us and gives us strength. Have a great week! Fr. Keith P.S. If you have not yet returned your November Lottery Calendar tickets and $, please do so by Monday. Thank you for your participation in our parish fundraiser. Good Luck!

Parish Prayer for the month of October The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary: And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us

sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary... And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary...

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ,

Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our

Lord. Amen.

“He competido bien; He terminado la carrera; He mantenido la fe.

Donation of Altar Flowers Flowers beautify the sacred space of our church and are a

gift to God and those who attend our Masses. Many people have special days in the year which they

commemorate. Flowers on the altar of Our Lady of Mercy Church can fittingly mark anniversaries, the birth of a child, marriage, baptism or death, or may be used as an expression

of joy of thanksgiving at any time. We are trying something new for our parish. We will begin

with a flower donation once a month. When flowers are given in thanksgiving or as a memorial, an announcement

will be made at all weekend masses noting the memorial or occasion for the flowers. Currently, the suggested donation

for Altar Flowers is $40.

If you would like to donate flowers, please contact the parish office today 610-252-7381 to reserve your date.

ENROLLING NOW! The Diocese of Allentown has opened Kolbe Academy, the nation’s first faith-based recovery high school. The school is now

enrolling students in recovery from all faiths in the five counties of the Diocese: Berks, Carbon, Lehigh,

Northampton and Schuylkill, and beyond. Kolbe Academy will serve students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 and will provide a quality Catholic education that

meets the state requirements for high school graduation and sustains and nurtures the spirit of

each student on their journey of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. For more information, please visit the school website at www.kolbe-academy.com,

call the school at 610-419-3333, or email Principal John Petruzzelli about enrollment at

[email protected].
