POLLUTION SOURCES
90% of benzene quantity in the air comes from road traffic; cigarette’s smoke contains benzene; it is used in detergents production ;rubber ; plastics; paint; in the farmaceutical industry; in the chemical industry; it is an excellent solvent for various substances like fats, rubber, wax, resins, most of the organic chemical substances etc. ;in the perfumery industry; in the cigarettes industry; in the fuel industry; in the adhesives production; printing; paper production etc.
EFFECTS
Carcinogen substance, enclosed in class A1 of toxicity. It produces harmful effects for the entire central nervos system.

AMMONIA (NH3)

GENERAL FEATURES
State of aggregation of ammonia is gaseous, having the chemical properties of a base, toxic, with a pungent odor, lighter than the air, being slightly soluble in water.
POLLUTION SOURCES
Liquid ammonia is used in refrigeration aggregates. It is also used in the textile industry, or for plasticizing the wood by treating it with an ammonia sollution; in metallurgy it is used as a protection gas during the heat treatment of the metall. It it used as a liquid for dry cleaning. Food industry, releases in the air ammonia. In the medical field or farmaceutical industry, in the medicine preparation or in the explosive production.
Ammonia results from manure of livestock and agriculture fields, but also from people’s home and public spaces.
EFFECTS In contact with humide surfaces, ammonia gas has caustic action, being irritating for the skin, mucus, respiratory track, digestive and eyes. An ammonia concetration of 0,5% in the inhaled air produces in 30-60 de minutes, death.
FORMALDEHYDE (CH2O)

GENERAL FEATURES
Gaseous substance, colorless, with a strong pongent odor. It is easy soluble not only in the water, but in usual organic solvents.
POLLUTION SOURCES
Formaldehyde is the basic raw material for the manufacturing of phenol-formaldehydic synthetic resins and those amine, used even today in the wood industrialization, as adhesives oras coatings for wood finishing. Formaldehyde is used as soil fertilizer; disinfectants, dyes and in cosmetic industry. Formaldehyde can be also found in peoples home and commercial areas through the diversity and always rising quantity of the building materials on wood, which are themselves potential sources of formaldehyde.
Among intoxications with organic compunds a special place is taken by that with aldehydes. The most commonly found in the industry is: formaldehyde; acetaldehyde; acrolein; furfurol.

GENERAL FEATURES
Is a weak inorganic acid. In pure state it is a colorfree gas, combustible, toxic, with a strong odor. At low concentration has an unpleasant odor of rotton eggs. In high concentration it paralyzes the sense of smell and it cannot be detected by man.
POLLUTION SOURCES
Hydrogen sulphide can be present in the rotting processes of organic substances of garbage deposits, in cellulose production; in the production of chemical inorganic products. Large part is produced by bacteria in the rotting process of the biomass (animal carcases plant scraps, feces, garbage, marc etc.) from diffrent food industry and agro-livestock industry.
EFFECTS
Depending on the kind of concentration and exposure time, it can produce chronical or acute effects. On concentration over 0.1% it can kill in a few seconds. It acts on the blood, where, by forming a complex with iron, it blocks the transport of oxygene.
