    Sunday in Ordinary Time

    November 3, 2019

    Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today salvation has come to this house because this man too is a descendant of Abraham. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost.” [Luke 19:10]

Zacchaeus was curious, so he went “out on a limb” to see Jesus. It seems he had some previous en-counter with him, because Jesus calls him by name and invites himself into the head Tax Collector’s home for dinner. This causes no small disturbance with the crowd accompanying Jesus through Jericho who ask why Jesus would stay with such a sinner. But Zacchaeus stands his ground and responds gen-erously to his encounter with Jesus. Jesus has pro-vided space for conversion and repentance, so Zach doesn’t want to miss it. He has been seeking a new beginning and Jesus found him in this moment of grace.

How about us? Are we willing to go out on a limb to meet Jesus again? To invite him into our hearts and homes like never before? Like Zach, we need the grace to change the way we live, making amends with those we have hurt, repairing past wrongs, giving oth-ers an opportunity to encounter Christ through us. Salvation is not something that just happens once. It is how we continue the journey of reconciling, healing, and allowing ourselves to begin again in the space that God gives us for grace.

Question for the week: Who has brought you into a community of acceptance and love? Who called you by name to discover who Jesus is AGAIN? How do you experience the presence of God’s Spirit in crea-tion?

Word for the week: “salvation:” being saved, res-cued, found, freed, healed, set free from fear and sin, reconciled, redeemed, all paid up, debt free, no long-er encumbered, restored to dignity, forgiven!

    Estimados feligreses y amigos:

    Word from Pope Francis

“If today we are remembering those brothers and sisters of ours who lived before us and are now in heaven, they are there be-cause they were washed in the Blood of Christ, that is our hope and this hope does not disappoint. If we live our lives with the Lord, he will never disappoint us.

"Si hoy recordamos a esos hermanos y hermanas nues-

Pray that the Lord of Life might move the heart of the mother to give her baby the most precious gift of all—the gift of life.

All Souls Day was Friday! We cherished the sa-cred remembrance of our beloved friends and fami-ly members who have died this past year as we read out their names with the intercessions on Fri-day and tonight (Saturday) as well as at the Sun-day Mass at the Lake, November 3.

Mass Intentions for all our Deceased Friends and Family Members should be placed on the right corner of the altar or given personally to Fr. Bob or Barbara. The All Souls envelopes are available in the vestibule of the church. Write the names of your deceased loved ones on the enve-lopes. All moneys placed in them in honor of the deceased go to the poor [Loaves and Fishes]. Im-ages of our deceased relatives and friends are welcome in front of the altar until Thanksgiving. If you have a framed picture or a digital or printed im-age that could be taped to the “Cloud of Witness-es,” all are welcome before the altar as we find new ways to lift up our beloved loved ones who have gone before us into glory.

How does a person become an Adult member of the Catholic Church? RCIA Classes continue in a new cycle twice a month on Thursday nights, again on Thursday, November 7 at 7:15 PM, as we ponder the meaning of revelation through scripture and Tradi-tion. Contact Fran McElroy ([email protected] or 267-496-1965) or Fr. Bob [ [email protected] & 478-284-5235] or the church office (283-7700) for more info.

RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, it in-cludes those who wish to review and update their Catholic faith as well as for those who would like to learn about the basics of our Catholic faith. RCIA is a process of information, formation and transformation into a Catholic identity. Those inquirers who complete the 8-9 month process may wish to be received into full communion with the Church, baptized-confirmed and make their first Holy Communion. Others may just wish to accompany those who are learning. Bi-weekly classes in English will be on Thursday eve-nings, 7:15-9 PM. “Come and see!”

Catholic Mass from the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah is available every evening at 6 pm via the Satilla Faith and Community TV Channel 15 on Vyve Broadband in Waycross, thanks to Callaway Advertising.
