Reciban ustedes una calurosa bienvenida a nuestro “Torneo Internacional de Pesca de Marlin y Pez Vela” en su edición número 56.

Como todos los años, algo bueno está pas-ando en Puerto Vallarta, este año encon-trarán un pueblo más limpio, estaremos es-trenando un nuevo malecón, con áreas más grandes y bonitas para disfrutar de la brisa marina, los atardeceres o del ambiente de sus bares y restaurantes que ahí se locali-zan.

Estarán visitando un pueblo que se dis-tingue por la amabilidad de sus habitantes, pero sobre todo estarán viviendo por unos días de la tranquilidad y seguridad que aquí se respira.

La pesca de seguro será buena y su compa-ñía, ¡mejor!

You’ll be visiting a town distinguished by the hospitality and kindness of its people, but above all you will be living a few days in the tranquility and safety environment that you can breathe here.

Reglas Oficiales

1. Este torneo está abierto para todos los EQUIPOS que se registren debidamente y

se comprometan a cumplir todas las reglas del Torneo, a someterse a las disposiciones del Juez, del Comité de Honor y Justicia, y las normas contempladas por la Ley Federal de Pesca así como la Secretaria de Comunicaciones y Transportes.

2. Cada equipo contará con un máximo de cuatro pescadores, aunque esta permitido

que se registren equipos con un menor número de participantes. Cada equipo designará un capitán que representará al equipo.

3. Las especies que califican son: MARLIN, PEZ VELA, ATUN Y DORADO.

4. Con el afán de proteger a las especies, SOLO CALIFICARAN MARLIN DE MÁS DE

100 KGS, PEZ VELA DE MAS DE 30 KGS., ATÚN DE MÁS DE 30 KGS Y DORADO DE MÁS DE 10 KGS.

5. Sugerimos soltar a los especimenes que a juicio de los participantes estén por debajo

de las tallas mínimas, no existirá penalización si algún concursante trae a pesaje algún ejemplar menor al límite de peso.

6. Serán declarados CAMPEONES por especie, los equipos que capturen el Marlin, Pez Vela,

Atún o Dorado de mayor peso. Solo en caso de empate, se tomara como base la medida de los peces; primero el largo y luego el contorno. (En tal caso las medidas serán las indicadas por las reglas de la IGFA. De persistir el empate ganará, el pez que se haya registrado primero).

En el caso del PEZ VELA Y MARLIN los equipos además podrán participar en la modalidad de

CAPTURAR Y LIBERAR (CATCH AND RELEASE) y será declarado Campeón el

equipo con mayor número de capturas que acerquen a la embarcación y liberen previo video que indique fecha y hora de la captura

y liberación. Los equipos que quieran participar en esta modalidad deberán traer su propia

cámara de video con dispositivo que pueda conectarse a una computadora para su copia, la cual deberá presentar el día de las inscripciones (Se proporcionara mayor información el día de las inscripciones). Se recomienda utilizar el anzuelo TIP “CIRCLE

HOOK” o tipo JAPONES para facilitar la liberación de los PEZ VELA y MARLIN

7. En esta competencia se permitirán ÚNICAMENTE el USO o TRAER A

BORDO de la embarcación la línea hasta de 130 LBS. De resistencia. Cañas y Carretes a

discreción del pescador, se prohíbe el uso

de carretes electrónicos. El Comité Organizador cuando considere necesario podrá pedirle a cualquier concursante una muestra del equipo y línea de pesca para su revisión. No hay restricción respecto al número de cañas y carretes que puede usar el equipo o embarcación registrado.

8. IMPORTANTE: Toda embarcación deberá retirar el equipo de pesca no permitido para

su uso como: anzuelos dobles, arpones y en general artes de pesca no permitidos.

9. Sólo se permite como máximo dos (2) anzuelos sencillos por empate siguiendo

los lineamientos de la IGFA (International Game Fish Asociation). Se prohíbe el uso de anzuelos dobles, (ver dibujo)

10. Los peces deberán ser capturados con carnadas o señuelos y serán acercados a

la embarcación sin más ayuda que el carrete y la caña. QUEDA PROHIBIDO EL USO DE MECHUDO. Solo se permitirán 4.50mts. De sedal doble y otro tanto empate (leader). La suma de los dos no excederá 9.00mts. No podrán descansarse las cañas sobre la borda y ninguna persona podrá durante la pelea de un ejemplar tocar la caña, carrete o línea del participante.

11. SON CAUSAS DE DESCALIFICACIÓN:

a. Contravertir en cualquier forma las disposiciones de estas bases.

b. Que personas ajenas al equipo ajusten el carrete, o maniobren cualquier parte del equipo durante la pesca. Se prohíbe agarrar la línea doble. Sólo se permitirá que uno de los tripulantes tome el empate para arrimar al pez al costado de la lancha. No hay restricción alguna sobre el número de personas que ayuden a subir al animal a la lancha. NO SE PERMITIRA EL USO DE GANCHOS PARA PEZ VELA sin embargo para las otras especies sí está permitido.

c. Que en su embarcación permitan pescar a personas no inscritas en el equipo.

d. Presentar cualquier pez que no haya sido capturado por el equipo en forma reglamentaria durante el día de pesca.

e. Cualquier pez herido por la propela (que penetre o rasgue la carne), mordida de tiburón, arpón, proyectil, o arma de fuego, o por cualquier objeto punzo cortante. NO SERÁ MOTIVO DE DESCALIFICACIÓN LA RUPTURA DEL PICO DEL ANIMAL, CUALQUIERA QUE FUERA SU CAUSA.

f. El Comité Organizador deberá abrir los ejemplares que ocupen los tres primeros lugares de cada día. En caso de encontrarse algún objeto extraño del animal introducido a propósito para aumentar su peso, será descalificado junto con todas las capturas del equipo de ese día.

g. Los participantes o embarcaciones que no permitan la inspección del Comité Organizador a la embarcación.

h. Llevar a bordo cualquier objeto de pesca que no sea el registrado. Así como arpones, chinchorros, tarrayas, cimbras y en general artes de pesca que no sean las permitidas.

i. Que algún participante se comporte en forma antideportiva o con falta de probidad durante el desarrollo del torneo.

j. Será causa de descalificación del o los participantes en el torneo, proferir agresiones físicas y/o verbales al Juez del Torneo y a sus ayudantes. En caso de que ocurra esto serán sometidos al comité de Honor y Justicia y se descalificaran a los participantes que incurran en estas faltas.

12. En caso de avería de alguna embarcación o que por su lentitud no pueda llegar a

tiempo para que sus ejemplares sean pesados, éstos pueden ser t ransfer idos a otra embarcación que la presente en su nombre ante el juez. En caso que la embarcación que preste auxilio y transporte no llegue a tiempo el pesaje, no podrá ser usado como excusa y la pesca de ambas no podrá ser registrada.

13. Los concursantes deberán estar presentes en las instalaciones de Marina Vallarta,

el día y hora de la inauguración del torneo que se efectuará a las 7.00 hrs. del centro y deberán esperar la orden de salida del juez. En caso de que cualquier embarcación salga antes del disparo u orden de salida de la dársena, los pescadores participantes inscritos de esa embarcación serán descalificados durante ese día de pesca.

14. Las embarcaciones deberán reportar diariamente la hora de salida a pescar

lo mismo a su regreso de acuerdo al horario permitido en el programa, no se permitirá que ninguna embarcación salga o regrese de otro punto que no sean los lugares oficiales de salida, la falta de cumplimiento de esta regla descalificara a los que incurran en ella.

15. El Comité Organizador tiene facultades para prolongar, acortar o suspender el

torneo por situaciones climatológicas o por cualquier otra causa de fuerza mayor.

16. Fungirá como juez el Sr. Capitán Cipriano Quintero Montes (Pano) y sus fallos serán

inapelables cuando se presente una situación no específicamente reglamentada, el criterio del Juez así como del Comité Organizador de Honor y Justicia serán inapelables.

17. El pesaje de los ejemplares dará inicio a las 13:00 hrs. y terminará con el horario del

programa. Es obligación que el equipo concursante, registre sus capturas. Previa autorización del Comité Organizador debido a causas de fuerza mayor y justificada, los ejemplares podrán ser presentados por otra persona.

18. Los peces de mayor peso de cada día serán objeto de minucioso examen por

parte de biólogos y del Juez del Torneo, por lo que las boletas de pesaje tendrán validez después de dicho examen.

19. Los ejemplares de los primeros lugares de cada día serán propiedad del club de

pesca, cuando algún pescador quiera montar su ejemplar se le proporcionará la piel.

20. Cualquier protesta de un participante debidamente registrado relacionada con

esta competencia, deberá ser presentada por el capitán del equipo por escrito y firmada al Juez teniendo como limite las 19:00 hrs. del mismo día en que se registre el motivo de la misma.

21. Para mayor seguridad de los participantes contaremos con vigilancia marítima

por parte de la Secretaria de Marina, Capitanía de Puerto y la Delegación de Sagarpa, el Comité Organizador bajo ninguna circunstancia se hace responsable de cualquier percance o accidente que pudiesen tener los concursantes o embarcaciones durante el torneo.

22. Los concursantes, pescadores, embarcac iones , c a p i t a n e s y

tripulaciones que sean descalificados en el torneo, podrán ser vetados de torneos futuros organizados por el Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta, A.C., y pueden ser boletinados a otros Clubes de Pesca y organizadores de otros Torneos.

23. El solo hecho de inscribirse y participar en este torneo de

pesca, obliga al participante a leer, conocer y cumplir con las reglas de este torneo.

24. El Comité Organizador se reserva a su criterio, el derecho de

admisión de cualquier persona, embarcación o tripulación que quiera inscribirse y participar en el torneo.

1. This tournament is open to all TEAMS that are properly registered and are committed to

following all rules of the tournament, to comply with the provisions of the Judge, the Honour and Justice Committee, and the norms set by the Fisheries Act and Secretary of Communications and Transport.

2. Each party will consist of a maximum of four fishermen, although teams are

allowed to register with a smaller number of participants. Each team will designate a captain to represent the team.

3. Species that qualify are: MARLIN, SAILFISH, TUNA and MAHI-MAHI.

4. In an effort to protect species, only MARLIN OF OVER 100 KGS, SAILFISH OF MORE

THAN 30 KGS, TUNA FOR OVER 30 KGS AND MAHI-MAHI FOR OVER 10 KGS qualify.

5. We suggest releasing the specimens that, in the opinion of the participants, are below

the minimum sizes, there is no penalty if a competitor brings a specimen weighing less than the weight limit.

6. CHAMPIONS will be declared by species, teams catching the heaviest Marlin,

Sailfish, Tuna or Mahi-Mahi. In case of a tie, the taken action will be based on the fish’s size first, its length and then its outline.(In this case the action shall be as set by the IGFA rules. If the tie persists, the fish that was registered first will win).

In the case of SAILFISH and MARLIN teams may also participate in the mode of CATCH

AND RELEASE and the winning team with the highest number of catches which came to the boat and released previously have taken

a video with date and hour of the catch and release shall be declared. Teams wishing to participate in this modality should bring

their own digital camera device that can plug in to a computer to copy videos, with clean

memory device and its battery charged, which shall be submitted the day of registration (further information will be provided on the day of registration). We recommend using the bait TIP “CIRCLE HOOK” or Japanese-style to make easy the

release of sailfish.

7. In this competition the USE or BRING ABOARD the boat line up of 130 LBS

will be allowed ONLY. Resistance. Rods and reels are discretion of the fisherman,

prohibits the use of electronic throttles. Whenever the Organizing Committee

deemed necessary can ask a sample of equipment and fishing line for review to any participant. There is no restriction on the number of rods and reels that you can use in the team or vessel registered.

8. IMPORTANT: Each vessel has to remove all the fishing equipment that is not allowed

for use, such as double hooks, harpoons and fishing gear that are generally not allowed.

9. Only a maximum of two (2) simple hooks for a draw along the lines of the IGFA

(International Game Fish Association) are allowed. The use of double hooks is forbidden (see picture).

10. Fish should be caught with bait or lures and will be brought close to the boat

without more help than the reel and rod. IT IS FORBIDDEN TO USE Moppers. Only 4.50 meters of double line are allowed and the same tie (leader). The sum of the two shall not exceed 9.00mts. The rod can not rest on the side and no person shall, during the fight of one individual, touch the rod, reel or line of the participant.

11. GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION:

a. To contravene in any way the provisions of these rules.

b. People outside the team to fit the reel, or any part of the team manoeuvre while fishing. It is forbidden to grasp the double line. Only allow one crew member to take the tie to bring close the fish alongside the boat. There are no restrictions on the number of people to help get the animal on the boat. IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO USE GAFF FOR SAILFISH however for other species it is permissible. c. To permit persons not registered on the computer to fish on the boat.

d. Submit any fish not captured by the team in a regulation during the fishing day.

e. Any fish struck by the propeller (which penetrate or tear the flesh), shark bite,

spear, missile, or firearm or any object cutting stitches. BREAKAGE OF BEAKS WILL NOT BE CAUSE FOR DISQUALIFICATION, whatever its cause. f. The Organizing Committee will open the specimens that occupy the top three of each day. If a foreign object found in the animal is introduced on purpose to increase their weight, they will be disqualified along with all the team catches on that day.

g. The participants or vessels who not allow inspection of the ship by the Organizing Committee.

h. Carry on board any fishing object other than the registered. Just as harpoons, fishnets, formwork and general fishing gear other than those permitted. i. If a participant behaves unsportsmanlike or dishonestly in the course of the tournament.

j. Utter physical and/or verbal aggression to Tournament Judge and his assistants may result in disqualification of participants in the tournament. If this happens the case will be submitted to the Honour and Justice Committee who will disqualify participants who engage in such misconduct.

12. In case of failure of any vessel or because of slowness can not reach in

time due to their specimens being weighted up; they can be transferred to another vessel that should be presented in representation to the judge. In case the boat to render assistance and transportation arrives late to the weighing, this may not be used as an excuse and fishing for both may not be registered.

13. Contestants must be present a t Marina Vallarta, the date and time of

the inauguration of the tournament to be held at 7:00 am central time of Mexico city, and have to wait out the order of the judge. If any vessel part before shooting out or order out of the dock, fishermen and registered participants will be disqualified from that vessel during that fishing day.

14. Vessels must report daily departure time the same on return according to

the schedule allowed in the program, no vessel is allowed leaving or returning to another point than the official places of departure, the lack of compliance of this rule will disqualify those who engage in it.

15. The Organizing Committee has the authority to extend, shorten or suspend

the tournament for weather situations or any other cause of force majeure.

16. Acting as judge Captain Cipriano (Pano) Quintero Montes and its rulings are final

when presented with a situation not specifically regulated, the approach of the Judge and the Honour and Justice Organizing Committee are final.

17. The weighing of the specimens will begin at 13:00 hrs, ending with the program

schedule. It is an obligation of the contestant team, to record their catches. With the permission of the Organizing Committee due to force majeure and justified, specimens may be submitted by another person.

18. The heaviest fish of each day will be subject to careful scrutiny by biologists

and the Judge of the Tournament, so the tickets will be valid after weighing review.

19. Specimens of the first places of each day will be owned by the fishing club,

whenever a fisherman wants to mount a specimen the skin will be provided.

20. Any protest of a duly registered participant related to this competition must be

submitted by the team captain in writing and signed to the Judge having as a limit 19:00 pm. the same day that the reason is recorded.

21. For safety of participants there will be maritime surveillance by the Secretary

of the Navy, Port Captain and the Delegation of SAGARPA, the Organizing Committee under no circumstances can be held responsible for any mishap or accident that might occur to the contestants or boats during the tournament.

22. Contestants, fishing, boats, captains and crews who are disqualified in

the tournament, may be banned from future tournaments organized by the Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta, AC, and can be bulletined to other fishing clubs and organizers of other tournaments.

23. Simple registration and participation in this fishing tournament, binds

the participants to read, understand and comply with the rules of this tournament.

24. The Organizing Committee in its discretion reserves the right

to admit any person, vessel or crew who wants to join and participate in the tournament.

palabras, brotan de su destreza en pinturas expresionistas de hermoso colorido con gran número de figuras, símbolos y formas para que de alguna manera transmitan su sentir. Cada uno de sus cuadros se convierte en una bella poesía no escrita, en donde los trazos, al ser observados en su conjunto detenidamente, expresan un mensaje

que al principio aguardaba oculto. Intentando leer entre líneas, cada uno de sus cuadros cuentan una historia diferente que obliga a la

persona a utilizar su “percepción especial” para interpretarlos. His-torias sobre el principio de la vida y el surgimiento del hombre, en donde el sentido mismo de la obra y la composición invitan a ser

analizados con calma para así comprender todos y cada uno de esos bellos versos dibujados tan hábilmente por su autor.

Discrete man, reserved, he seems to be keeping a big universe of ideas inside

of himself, ideas and feelings that he can’t describe with words, so they just sprout from his skills into expressionists paint-ings of beautiful colors with lots of figures, symbols and forms in order to transmit his feeling. Each of his pieces become in a beautiful poetry that has never been written, in which the strokes express a message just when you observe them slowly. Trying to read between the lines, each of his pieces tell a different story that make you use you “special insight” in order to decipher it. 56º Torneo Internacional Marlin & Pez Vela32

Apenas hace dos años se iniciaron en Puerto Vallarta los Torneos Internacionales de Pesca

de Pez Vela y como todos recordarán, únicamente el primero no resultó como se esperaba debido a la falta de “materia prima”, ya que precisamente en el mes de abril es cuando menos se encuentra el “vela”, sin embargo ese primer fracaso deportivo fue todo un éxito social y lo principal, se habían iniciado los torneos internacionales. Con esta primera experiencia y el ardor de los pescadores frustrados que querían sacarse la espina, se organizó el segundo evento en el mes de noviembre del mismo año, resultando que en esta ocasión lograron los “velas” que quisieron y todo el mundo feliz. El tercer torneo también resultó un completo evento deportivo y social, y dado el entusiasmo que ha imperado para la organización de este IV Torneo y las circunstancias favorables de pesca en esta temporada se le augura un completo triunfo en todos los aspectos.

Los pescadores que vinieron desde el primer torneo y nos han seguido favoreciendo con su presencia en los subsiguientes, han notado palpablemente el crecimiento de Puerto Vallarta; la lucha y el ardor que han puesto sus habitantes para mejorarlo. Estos pescadores fueron testigos de la implantación del alumbrado eléctrico las

de otro más, de la enorme cantidad de fincas nuevas, del crecimiento turístico, en fin de tantos y tantos progresos que resultaría d e m a s i a d o c a n s a d o enumerar. Ahora, a estas mismas personas les

tocará conocer una nueva obra: el puente de material sobre el arroyo de Cuale, construcción que comunica el macizo de la población con la Colonia Agraria Emiliano Zapata y los principales balnearios del puerto.

No cabe duda que Vallarta es un pueblo diferente y perdonando la modestia, bien podría ser ejemplarizado como el prototipo del engrandecimiento de México. Haciendo a un lado el crecimiento demográfico y económico, podemos ver cuánto se ha superado en sus aspectos cívicos; mucho tiempo ha que el caciquismo quedó desterrado, hoy l as au to r idades son respetuosas de nuestras leyes y ecuánimes en el tratamiento para con sus gobernados; las reyertas sangrientas pasaron al olvido; sus habitantes, la mayoría cosmopolitas, son comprens ivos , atentos y conscientes del gran futuro de su pueblo.

Tengan la seguridad todos los pescadores que nos visitan, que año con año procuraremos a t e n d e r l o s m e j o r, r o g á n d o l e s n o s dispensen aquellas fallas involuntarias en que incurramos, haciéndolas de nuestro conocimiento para evitarlas en lo futuro.

A Piece of history

It was two years ago when the Sailfish International Fishing Tournament began in Puerto Vallarta, and

as everybody can remember, only the first issue didn’t result as we were expecting because of the absence of “raw material”, is precisely in April when sailfish is less common in the bay, however, that sporting failure became a social success, and of course, the International Fishing Tournaments had began. With this first experience and the passion of frustrated fishermen who wanted to fish and win, a second event was organized in November of the same year, this time a lot of sailfishes were caught and everybody was happy. The third Tournament was a social sports event

too. With all the enthusiasm and goodwill around the organization of this IV Tournament and the positive circumstances of fishing in this season, for sure it will be a success in all the areas.

Fishermen who came since the first tournament and have been coming over the following events, had noticed Puerto Vallarta’s growth, fighting and passion population have done to improve it. These fishermen were witness of the introduction of 24 hours electric lighting, building of a new hotel, the expansion of another one, the huge number of new properties, the touristic growth, in short, so much progress that could result a very long list. Now, these same people will meet a new workmanship: the roadway bridge above the Cuale River, this new construction communicates the population with Agraria and Emiliano Zapata neighborhoods and the main water parks in the port.

No doubt Vallarta is a different town and forgiving modesty, could be the example of the prototype of Mexico’s aggrandizement. Putting the population and economics growth aside, we can appreciate how Vallarta has improved itself in the civics issues; a long time has been since the tyranny has disappeared, today the authorities are respecting with our laws and fairness in the treatment to their governed; the bloody fights had been forgotten; the inhabitants, most cosmopolitan, are empathetic, caring and aware of the great future of the town.

Be sure, fellow fishermen, that every year we’ll try to serve you better, and please dispense those mistakes we make involuntarily, tell us about them in order to avoid them in the future.

El consumo moderado de cerveza no solo NO es nocivo para la salud humana, sino

que puede ser beneficioso para nuestro o r g a n i s m o y p r e v e n i r d e t e r m i n a d a s enfermedades. Investigaciones y descubrimientos científicos avalan esta afirmación y contribuyen al derrumbamiento de los falsos mitos que alertaban incluso sobre el consumo moderado de alcohol.

Según expertos en Nutrición y Medicina Preventiva, el consumo moderado en el varón adulto oscila entre 5 y 30 gramos de alcohol diarios; equivalentes a 3 vasos diarios.

1.-CORAZON Y CEREBRO: El consumo moderado de cerveza puede reducir

hasta un 60 % el riesgo de enfermedades crónicas. Es un factor de protección de los accidentes vasculo-cerebrales de tipo Isquemico (trombo-embólicos) y de los ocasionados por hemorragias Intracraneales. El alcohol de la cerveza tiene efectos f ib r ino l i t icos , por lo que resu l ta un a n t i c o a g u l a n t e m o d e r a d o y u n antiagregante plaquetario. Pero, sobre todo, el etanol aumenta la liproteina HDL, que sirve para limpiar la sangre de colesterol.

Las ballenas jorobadas son mamíferos al igual que nosotros, sólo que están adaptadas a la

vida marina. Tienen pulmones, respiran aire, dan a luz a crías vivas y las amamantan. Junto con los delfines son consideradas como Cetáceos —“los monstruos del mar”— y los científicos se basan en la distinción de animales dentados y con barbas para clasificarlos.

¿Sabías que las ballenas jorobadas no tienen nin-guna “joroba”? Su nombre se debe a su técnica de buceo; cuando la ballena jorobada se va a sumergir, arquea su espalda y muestra su aleta dorsal, lo que da la impresión de una gran joro-ba. Es imposible mirar a una ballena jorobada y no encontrar su poder impresionante. Su longitud promedio es de 14 a 16 metros y la más grande registrada alcanzó los 18 metros. Su peso fluctúa de 50 a 30 toneladas, dependiendo de la variac-ión temporal de la capa de grasa.

Humpback whales are mammals like us, only they are adapted to marine life. They have

lungs, breathe air, give birth to live young and breastfeed. Along with the dolphins they are re-garded as cetaceans - “sea monsters” - and sci-entists are based on the distinction of toothed and baleen animals to classify them.

Did you know that humpback whales have no “hump”? Its name comes from its diving tech-nique, when the humpback whale is going to dip, arch his back and shows its dorsal fin, which gives the impression of a large hump. It is impossible to look at a humpback whale and not find its awe-some power. Its average length is 14 to 16 me-ters and the largest recorded reached 18 meters. Las maravillosas ballenas jorobadas visitan Bahía de Banderas cada año en busca de aguas tem-pladas y tranquilas para aparearse y tener a sus crías. Hasta donde sabemos son los únicos ce-táceos que compiten fuertemente, e incluso pelean, para obtener la atención de las hembras. Esto último no es tarea fácil, los machos muestran diferentes comportamientos como son los mun-dialmente famosos saltos acompañados de co-letazos y aletazos, sus encantadores cantos y los agresivos grupos de cortejo.

Los cantos de las ballenas jorobadas son prob-ablemente los más famosos, intrigantes y atípi-cos sonidos emitidos por ballenas. Finalmente, después de dos décadas de estudios intensivos, se pudieron definir claramente las características de estas canciones, las cuales se componen de frases con un mismo ritmo que se repiten y forman temas que al repetirse integran la canción com-pleta, la cual llega a durar de 10 a 15 minutos. Los únicos que cantan son los machos, y todos los machos cantores de una misma población can-tan la misma canción, lo que quiere decir que ¡los machos que visitan Hawaii y México cantan la misma canción!. Además, las canciones cambi-an gradualmente cada año, hasta que después de 10 años la canción es completamente dife-rente.

Otra característica especial de las ballenas joro-badas es la parte ventral de su cola, la cual pre-senta un patrón de coloración que va de com-pletamente blanco a completamente negro, el cual provee a las jorobadas una característica distintiva para cada individuo, es como su huella digital. Las fotografías de las colas de las balle-nas nos permiten saber más sobre su abundan-cia, distribución, migraciones, etc., por lo que en Bahía de Banderas contamos con el Catálogo de Fotoidentificación de Ballena Jorobada en Bahía de Banderas (Catálogo FIBB), el cual inicia en 1996 y en la actualidad cuenta con más de 1,300 ballenas diferentes identificadas y con más de 3,500 registros. bargo podemos estar orgullosos de que en Bahía de Banderas contamos con uno de los primeros grupos organizados de rescate para grandes ballenas en el Pacífico Norte. En el 2006 se con-formó la “Red de Asistencia a Ballenas Enmalla-das en Bahía de Banderas (RABEN)”. La Red esta conformada por la 8ª. Zona Naval de Puerto Val-larta, el Instituto Tecnológico de Bahía de Ban-deras y algunos prestadores de servicios turísticos de observación de ballenas. Si te encuentras con una ballena enmallada por favor no te acerques y repórtala a la Zona Naval o a Capitanía de Puerto.

Las ballenas jorobadas son una especie en peli-gro de extinción y se encuentran protegidas por el gobierno mexicano, por lo que hacemos las siguientes recomendaciones:

+Al observar ballenas, hazlo sólo en embarcacio-nes autorizadas y con personal profesional.

+No manejes rápido tu embarcación, ¡recuerda que puedes encontrarte con una ballena en tu camino!. Se recomienda navegar a menos de 25km/hr o en su defecto llevar un vigía en la proa que verifique no haya alguna ballena en tu trayectoria

+Si te encuentras con una ballena, por favor sé respetuoso, mantén tu embarcación por lo me-nos a 80 metros de distancia de ella(s), evita los cambios bruscos de velocidad y dirección y no la sigas por más de 10 minutos. Si la(s) ballena(s) te evitan, cambian de dirección, su ritmo de respi-ración o modifican su actividad, no te acerques, ¡aléjate despacio!.

+Las hembras con cría son extremadamente sensi-bles, por lo que es muy importante no molestarlas.

+No se pueden realizar actividades de pesca de-portiva o comercial en el área donde se encuen-tran las ballenas.

Queremos que las ballenas jorobadas sigan vi-niendo a Bahía de Banderas cada invierno, ellas cuentan contigo para poder sobrevivir.

Unfortunately sometimes whales get entangled in fishing gear, which can cause them serious injury and even can cost them their life. These are ac-cidents where the fishermen lose their fishing nets, at present there is no way to prevent this from happening, but we can be proud that in Bahia de Banderas we have one of the first rescue groups organized for large whales in the North Pacific. In 2006 the “Entangled Red Whale Assistance was formed in the Bahia de Banderas (Raben).” The Network is comprised of the 8th. Naval Zone of Puerto Vallarta, the Technological Institute of Bahia de Banderas and some service providers whale watching tours. If you find a whale entan-gled please stay away and report it to the Naval Zone or Port Captain.

If the whale(s) seek to avoid you, change direction, its rate of breathing may modify their activities, move away, move away slowly!
