Class Desciption: AP Spanish Language and Culture

• In this course, students develop their comprehension skills and communicative proficiency in Spanish. Students synthesize the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing – all in a cultural context. Students access authentic materials in Spanish to make connections and cultural comparisons. Study focuses on interesting themes and engages students in real life tasks. The AP Language course is conducted entirely in Spanish. Students with a B- or better and teacher recommendation in Spanish 8 automatically enter class with NO NEED to take an entrance exam. See Sra. McCrea in Room 130 for more information.

Please also consider: AP Spanish Literature and Culture:

• The objective of the course is for students to interpret and analyze Hispanic literature and culture as they continue to develop proficiency in the Spanish language. Students read the required literary works from the AP Spanish Literature and Culture reading list in the original Spanish. These literary works represent various historical periods, literary movements, genres, geographic areas and diverse population groups within the Spanish speaking world. Works include poetry, short stories, plays, and selections from novels. This course includes a strong cultural component to provide context, such as art, music and history. This course is recommended for students who have completed Spanish 7-8 or AP Spanish Language, or are native speakers. Please speak to Sra. McCrea in Room 130 for more information.

• This course is designed to offer motivated upper classmen the opportunity to apply previously learned material in a real-world context. This class exposes students to a wide range of cultural experiences both in and outside of the classroom and allows students to design personalized units of study under the supervision of the teacher that maximize areas of interest and prepares students for college, travel and employment. Consider enrolling in this course after Spanish 7-8, 7-8 Honors, or AP. See Srta. Vallejo in Room 135 for more information.
