Though our Lord Jesus Christ was rich, he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.
Dios Jesucristo, siendo rico, se hizo pobre, para enriquecernos con su pobreza.

Today's Gospel sounds puzzling to us unless we consider the economic
system behind the parable. A steward is dismissed for not serving the interests
of his employer. In response he brokers repayment of the rich man's loans by
foregoing the interest and fees originally levied to line his own steward's pock-
ets. The steward puts aside his greed and takes the longer perspective to en-
hance his own security. There are three morals for the listeners; be prudent
about the use of wealth, be trustworthy and finally, no one can serve two mas-
ters simultaneously. Those who would follow Jesus must put life events in prop-
er perspective. God must always be first, then they can be trusted with the af-
fairs of the Kingdom of God.

We ask for courage, humility and perseverance as we seek out the Lord in our daily life. We pray the
lost will “come to their senses” and return home. We lift up to the Lord those who have died. We pray for
Joe Koenen and all those who struggle with disease, illness, grief or addiction. We are especially grateful
for those who feed, house and clothe the world, and those who labor selflessly for our safety, growth and
well being, particularly our catechists, first responders and military.

Question of the Week Week Twenty Five – Luke 16:1-13
Key Passage: “If, therefore, you are not trust-worthy with dishonest wealth, who will trust you with true wealth? If you are not trustwor-thy with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours? No servant can serve two masters.”
Question for adults: How do you use the same unselfish manner in small matters that you would use in more serious ones?
Question for children: Why is it important to not lie even about the smallest thing?
Pregunta de la Semana
25° Semana--Lucas 16:1-13

The Pope said that these are hasty ways of dealing with choices that are not, as they might appear, an expres-sion of the person's freedom, when they include getting rid of the patient as a possibility, or false compassion in the face of the request to be helped to anticipate death. In this regard, Pope Francis re-called the “New Charter for Health Care Workers” of the Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers that says: "There is no right to dispose arbitrarily of one's life, so no doctor can become an executive guardian of a non-existent right." He also recalled Saint John Paul II, who pointed to the intrinsic ethical dimension of the health care profes-sion of the Hippocratic oath, accord-ing to which “every doctor is asked to commit himself to absolute respect for human life and its sacredness".
VATICAN CITY (VNS) Pope Fran-cis on Friday urged doctors to reject the temptation to assist and support suicide and euthanasia, reminding them of the Hippocratic oath that calls on them to commit themselves to ab-solute respect for human life and its sacredness.
“Medicine, by definition, is a ser-vice to human life, which involves an essential and indispensable reference to the person in his spiritual and mate-rial integrity, in his individual and social dimension.” “Hence medicine is at the service of man, of the whole man, of every man,” Pope Francis told some 350 representatives of the National Federation of the Orders of Medical Surgeons and Dentists of Italy, whom he met on Friday in the Vatican. He told them that illness is not a mere clinical fact restricted to medi-
cine alone, but includes the condition of a person, the sick. In this human vision, he said, doctors are called to relate to the patient, taking into con-sideration his singularity as a person who has an illness, and not just the case of the illness the patient has. This is why, the Pope said, it is
important that “the doctor does not lose sight of the uniqueness of each patient, with his dignity and his fragil-ity”. “A man or a woman should be accompanied with conscience, intelli-gence and heart, especially in the most serious situations.” “With this attitude,” the Pope said, “we can and must reject the tempta-tion, also induced by legislative changes, to use medicine to support a possible willingness of the patient to die, providing assistance for suicide or directly causing death by euthana-sia.”
Pope to doctors: reject temptation to assist and support
suicide and euthanasia By Robin Gomes, September 20, 2019
