A letter from the Pastor My dear People at Blessed Seelos Parish: Solemnity of Corpus Christi Today we celebrate another great solemnity during Ordinary—the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. Even though this celebration was not held officially in the Church until the 13th century, obviously, what we commemorate goes back all the way to the Last Supper on the first Holy Thursday. I often think that during Holy Week Good Friday takes so much of our attention and feelings for the week, that we can easily overlook the beauty of Holy Thursday. That was the night when Jesus shared perhaps his most intimate moments with the disciples, and the fruitfulness of that night left us the greatest gift to the Church, namely the Most Holy Eucharist. This is the very presence of the Lord in the Church until He comes again. In a miracle of love, Jesus desired to remain present to us in the celebration of his sacrifice and in the sacred species of consecrated bread and wine, to be our sustenance and food for the journey of life. There is nothing more evident of full parental care than the nourishment offered by a parent. Whether it is the nursing given by a mother early in our lives, or the Sustenance provided by the work of the parents, it is the most tangible parental sign of care and providence. The Eucharist is God’s way to share with us the constant nourishment He intended to give us through His Son in the Holy Spirit. Hoy celebramos otra gran solemnidad durante el Tiempo Ordinario—la Solemnidad del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Aunque esta celebración no se llevó a cabo en la Iglesia hasta el siglo XIII, obviamente lo que conmemoramos data de la Ultima Cena del primer Jueves Santo. Frecuentemente pienso que, durante la Semana Mayor, el Viernes Santo juega un papel tan grande, que fácilmente olvidamos la belleza del Jueves Santo. Esa fue la noche en que Jesús compartió los momentos más íntimos con sus discípulos, y el fruto de esa noche nos dejó el regalo más grande de Jesús a la Iglesia—la Sagrada Eucaristía. Esta es la presencia del Señor en la Iglesia hasta que vuelva. En un milagro de amor, Jesús deseó permanecer presente en la celebración de su sacrificio y en las sagradas especies de pan y vino consagrados, para ser nuestro sustento y alimento para el camino. No hay nada más evidente del cuidado total parental que el alimento que nos ofrecieron nuestros padres. Ya sea cuando una madre amamanta a su bebé, o cuando los padres trabajan para traer al hogar el pan de cada día, esta es la señal más tangible del cuidado y providencia de los padres. La Eucaristía es la manera en que Dios comparte con nosotros el alimento constante que quiere darnos a través de su Hijo en el Espíritu Santo.
