As we get closer to the end of the year, it’s a good time tolook back and take stock. 2016 will be a record year in ‘Post &Post &Post &Post &Post &GoGoGoGoGo’ issues. In 2014, about 50 issues were released over theyear, including new designs and their different combinationsplus special overprints. The following year, with thedevelopment of thematic sets of six designs, the number ofissues rose to more than 140. Now in 2016, there are,already, close to 200. Given that most of these issues can beobtained in sets of 4, 5 or, mainly, 6 different face valueindicators or postal tariffs, in one year, the five postaladministrations and philatelic services currently using theRoyal Mail - Intelligent ARRoyal Mail - Intelligent ARRoyal Mail - Intelligent ARRoyal Mail - Intelligent ARRoyal Mail - Intelligent AR postal kiosks will have issued morethan 1,000 different ‘Post & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & Go’ stamps. Only the JerseyPhilatelic Bureau of Jersey Post, a postal operator serving apopulation of just over 100,000 people, will have issued, in2016, two thematic series, totaling 53 issues and 318different ‘Post & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & Go’ stamps. This is almost four times morethan the number of ‘traditional’ stamps issued by thisphilatelic service.

I do not think it is necessary to add that many collectors seethis escalation of issues, in some countries, with displeasureand concern. It was predictable and, on the other hand, itcould also be extended to most philatelic programs,worldwide. The particularly attractive ‘Post & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & Go’ projectpowered by Royal MailRoyal MailRoyal MailRoyal MailRoyal Mail, complemented by the versatile andcontinuously evolving excellent kiosks, developed byIntelligent ARIntelligent ARIntelligent ARIntelligent ARIntelligent AR, are a great tool for philatelic services.So much so that I do not doubt that many other postaladministrations and philatelic services will join the project inthe coming years. And only they must ultimately decide howto use this powerful tool and establish the most appropriateissues policy.This is just the beginning.

A medida que nos vamos acercando al final de año, es unbuen momento para empezar a hacer balance. 2016 será,nuevamente, un año récord en emisiones ‘Post & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & Go’. En 2014se editaron unas 50 emisiones, incluyendo los nuevos diseñosy las diferentes combinaciones de diseño más impresiónespecial. Con el desarrollo de las series temáticas de seisdiseños, el número de emisiones se disparó a más de 140 en2015, y en 2016 serán ya cerca de 200. Teniendo en cuentaque la gran mayoría de estas emisiones pueden obtenerse enseries de 4, 5 o, principalmente, 6 tarifas postales distintas, enun año, las cinco administraciones postales y serviciosfilatélicos que actualmente utilizan los quioscos postales RoyalRoyalRoyalRoyalRoyalMail - Intelligent ARMail - Intelligent ARMail - Intelligent ARMail - Intelligent ARMail - Intelligent AR, habrán emitido más de 1.000 sellos ‘PostPostPostPostPost& Go& Go& Go& Go& Go’. Tan sólo el servicio filatélico de Jersey Post, un operadorpostal que sirve a una población de poco más de 100.000habitantes, habrá emitido 2 series temáticas, en total 53emisiones y 318 sellos ‘Post & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & Go’ distintos, en 2016; Casicuatro veces más que el número de sellos ‘tradicionales’.

No creo que sea necesario añadir que muchos coleccionistasven con desagrado y preocupación esta escalada de emisionesen algunos países. Era previsible y, por otra parte, es algo quetambién podría hacerse extensivo a la mayoría de programasfilatélicos. El especialmente atractivo proyecto ‘Post & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & GoPost & Go’impulsado por Royal MailRoyal MailRoyal MailRoyal MailRoyal Mail, complementado por los excelentesquioscos desarrollados por Intelligent ARIntelligent ARIntelligent ARIntelligent ARIntelligent AR, versátiles y encontinua evolución, son una magnífica herramienta para losservicios filatélicos. Tanto es así, que no dudo que muchasotras administraciones postales y servicios filatélicos se unan alproyecto en los próximos años. Y son sólo ellos quienes debendecidir, en última instancia, cómo utilizar esta potenteherramienta y establecer la política de emisiones másadecuada.Esto es sólo el principio.

Tras la presentación del nuevo quiosco filatélico y la buenaacogida de sus emisiones ATM durante la pasada FeriaNacional del Sello de Madrid (ver artículos publicados en VARIABLE4141414141), el servicio filatélico de Correos programó nuevasemisiones para el siguiente gran evento filatélico nacional, laEXFILNA de Zaragoza.

La 54 Exposición Filatélica Nacional - EXFILNA 2016EXFILNA 2016EXFILNA 2016EXFILNA 2016EXFILNA 2016 secelebró del 14 al 18 de septiembre. Esta exposición anual estáorganizada por la Federación Española de SociedadesFilatélicas (FESOFI), con el patrocinio de la Sociedad EstatalCorreos y Telégrafos. En 2016, además, este gran eventofilatélico y de coleccionismo se sumó a la 3a. Convención

Europea de Coleccionismo (ECCECCECCECCECC), organizada porANFIL, y una gran exposición sobre el 300

Aniversario de Correos.La exposición y las diferentes

actividades programadas sedesarrollaron en dos espacios, elPalacio de Sástago y la sala

multiusos del AuditorioMunicipal. También sehabía previsto instalar unagran cúpula inflable paraproyecciones en la Plazadel Pilar, pero porproblemas climatológicosno fue posible suinstalación.

En el Palacio de Sástago(imágenes), en el centro dela ciudad, Correos instalóuna exposiciónconmemorativa de su 300aniversario, con los 300

After the introduction of thenew philatelic kiosk and the goodacceptance of its ATM issues, atthe recent Madrid stamp fair (seearticle published in VARIABLEVARIABLEVARIABLEVARIABLEVARIABLE 41 41 41 41 41),the Spanish philatelic serviceprogrammed in some new issuesfor the next major nationalphilatelic event, the EXFILNA ofZaragoza.

The 54th National PhilatelicExhibition, EXFILNA 2016,EXFILNA 2016,EXFILNA 2016,EXFILNA 2016,EXFILNA 2016, washeld from September 14th to 18th.This annual exhibition is organizedby the Spanish Federation ofPhilatelic Societies (FESOFI), withthe sponsorship of the EstatalCorreos y Telégrafos - the Spanish Post. In 2016, in addition,this major philatelic and collecting event brought togetherthe 3rd. European Convention for Collectors (ECC), organizedby the Asociación Nacional de Empresarios de Filatelia yNumismática (ANFIL), and a large exhibition on the 300th

anniversary of Correos.The exhibition and its activities were developed at two

sites, the Palacio de Sástago and the multipurpose hall of theAuditorio Municipal. Correos also planned to install a largeinflatable dome for displays in the Plaza del Pilar, but due toweather conditions it wasnot possible to install it.

In the Palacio de Sástago(right image), in the citycentre, Correos installed anexhibition commemoratingits 300th anniversary,showing the 300 beststamps of Spanish philatelyorganized by themes, withexplanatory panels, anddisplayed in showcasesalong with various relateditems (images). A greatexhibition, in anexceptional place, thatattracted thousands ofvisitors during the five days.



Una magnífica exposición, en un lugar excepcional, queatrajo miles de visitantes durante los cinco días de la feria.Otro gran acierto, el outlet filatélico junto al siempreconcurrido stand de venta y matasellado. En una sala anexa,FESOFI había instalado las colecciones incluidas en la ClaseMaestra de la EXFILNA. El Palacio acogió también losdiferentes seminarios y presentaciones de sellos programadosdurante la feria.

Los cuadros de la exposición filatélicacompetitiva - EXFILNA fueron instalados en lagran sala multiusos del Auditorio Municipal deZaragoza (imagen derecha), junto a los standscomerciales de la Convención Europea deColeccionismo y los institucionales deCORREOS, la Fábrica Nacional de Moneda yTimbre, ANFIL, FESOFI y la UniversidadEuropea de Madrid, con demostraciones deimpresión de matasellos en 3D. En el centrode la sala, la reproducción en 3D de un sellodel rey Felipe VI en gran formato, impreso porla Universidad Europea. En uno de losextremos, el gran mosaico de 230.000 sellosrealizado enMálaga en2014, yexpuesto aquípor última vez(imagen). Laorganizaciónhabíainstaladotambién variasvitrinas conotros tipos decoleccionismos.

Correoseditó varias emisiones filatélicasrelacionadas con este evento; Entre ellas,una hoja bloque emitida en febrero, quereproduce el cartel anunciador. Durantela exposición, se presentó una emisióndedicada al Palacio de Sástago y otraconmemorativa del 500 Aniversario delfallecimiento de Fernando el Católico,además de dos nuevos diseños deetiquetas para ser emitidas por suquiosco filatélico.

Another great success was the philatelic outlet next to thealways crowded Correos commercial and postmarkingbooth.In an adjoining room, FESOFI installed the collectionsincluded in the EXFILNA Championship Class. The Palace alsohosted the different seminars and stamp presentationsscheduled during the fair.

The frames of the EXFILNA competitive philatelic exhibitionwere installed in the large multipurposehall of the Zaragoza MunicipalAuditorium (left image), next to thecommercial booths of the EuropeanConvention for Collectors (ECC), and theinstitutional stands of CORREOS, the RealCasa de la Moneda - FNMT (the SpanishRoyal Mint), ANFIL, FESOFI and theUniversidad Europea of Madrid, whichheld demonstrations of 3D postmarkprinting. In the centre of the large hall,the organization placed the 3Dreproduction of a large size King Felipe VIstamp, printed by the UniversidadEuropea. At one end, the large mosaicwith 230,000 stamps, promoted byCorreos, in 2014, showing a Spanish ‘ÑÑÑÑÑ’,and exhibited here for the last time (image

below). The organization also installedvarious large exhibition showcasesdisplaying other types of collectibles.

Correos produced various philatelicissues related to this event. Among them,a souvenir sheet, issued in February,featuring the poster. During theexhibition, Correos launched an issuecommemorating the 500th Anniversary of

the death ofFernando elCatólico andanotherdedicated tothe Palacio deSástago, aswell as twonew designsto be issuedby its ATMphilatelickiosk.

Los diseños de las emisiones ATM son deJuan Antonio González, del área de diseño eimagen de la subdirección de filatelia deCorreos y Telégrafos, que también es el autorde los diseños del sobre conmemorativo, elmatasello especial para los ATMs, y el matasellogeneral del evento.

El quiosco utiliza rollos de 1500 etiquetastérmicas autoadhesivas, fabricadas por CartorSecurity Printers, con impresión digital ycaracterísticas idénticas a las anterioresemisiones. Todas las etiquetas estánnumeradas en el reverso del papel siliconado,para control de existencias. Al inicio y al final delos rollos se han añadido tiras sin etiquetas, con‘xxxx’ en el reverso (tira izquierda), que permite alas impresoras optimizar los rollos e imprimirsobre la totalidad de etiquetas.

Themachinewas placedat one endof thephilatelic service stand in the multipurpose hall, perfectlyintegrated into the booth’s design, along with a computersystem allowing the printing of personalized stamp sheets.

As happened in the Madrid stamp fair, Correos decidedthat the new kiosk would issue variable value stamps withfour different designs, during the Zaragoza event. Threedays with the two new special designs dedicated to theEXFILNA / ECC 2016EXFILNA / ECC 2016EXFILNA / ECC 2016EXFILNA / ECC 2016EXFILNA / ECC 2016, and two days with the two other‘definitive’ designs featuring postal motifs. All the stampsissued in Zaragoza include the special imprint ‘14 -1814 -1814 -1814 -1814 -18Septiembre ZaragozaSeptiembre ZaragozaSeptiembre ZaragozaSeptiembre ZaragozaSeptiembre Zaragoza’.

The designs of the issues are by Juan Antonio González,a designer in the Correos philatelic department, who isalso the author of the designs of the pictorial coverreleased by Correos, and the special postmarks for newATMs and the Fair’s general postmark.

Labels include a white area at the left of the preprinteddesign allowing for the thermal overprint of the different dataat the time of issue as an stamp. In the case of the stampsissued during the Zaragoza EXFILNA, these data are theindicator of face value (‘Tarifa ATarifa ATarifa ATarifa ATarifa A’ on these stamps), the specialtemporary overprint ‘14-18 Septiembre Zaragoza14-18 Septiembre Zaragoza14-18 Septiembre Zaragoza14-18 Septiembre Zaragoza14-18 Septiembre Zaragoza’ and, on thebottom of the label, a unique alphanumeric code for eachstamp, formed by four blocks. En septiembre de 2016, para atender la demanda decoleccionistas y poder comercializar estas emisiones en lasdiferentes ferias filatélicas internacionales en las que participa,el servicio filatélico emitió tiras de ATMs con las ochocombinaciones de diseño e impresiones temporales emitidasen las ferias de Madrid y Zaragoza, únicamente en series decuatro valores y sin recibos (imágenes página siguiente).

Aunque la impresión de los datos es idéntica, estos sellos noestán impresos por el quiosco filatélico ES01ES01ES01ES01ES01, sino con unaimpresora de sobremesa que imprime el código B004B004B004B004B004 en lossellos. Por otra parte, el código inferior de estos sellos noincluye el número de sesión, ni de sello. Hasta finales de 2016,estas series pudieron adquirirse en el stand de Correos enPHILATAIPEI 2016 y el 70 Salon Philatélique d’Automne deParís (ver siguiente publicación).

In September 2016, to meet collector demand and to havethe opportunity to sell these issues at the differentinternational philatelic fairs, the Spanish Philatelic Service pre-printed strips of ATMs with the eight different combinations ofdesign and temporary overprints issued at the Madrid andZaragoza fairs. These stamps were only produced in sets offour values and without receipts (images next page).

Although the printing of the data is identical, these stampsare not printed by the ES01ES01ES01ES01ES01 philatelic kiosk, but with adesktop printer using the code B004B004B004B004B004 on the stamps. The codeat the bottom of these stamps does not include the session,nor the stamp numbers. Until the end of 2016, these setscould be purchased at the Correos booths at PHILATAIPEI2016 and the 70th Salon Philatélique d’Automne, in Paris(articles in next publication).

The Battle of Jutland was the largest naval battle of the FirstWorld War. On May 31st and June 1st, 1916, the fleets of theImperial German Navy and the British Royal Navy fought inthe North Sea, near the coast of Denmark’s Jutland peninsula.To commemorate the centenary of this important battle, RoyalMail programmed the ‘Battle of JutlandBattle of JutlandBattle of JutlandBattle of JutlandBattle of Jutland’ special imprint intoall the postal kiosks installed at the museums that are part ofThe National Museum of the Royal NavyThe National Museum of the Royal NavyThe National Museum of the Royal NavyThe National Museum of the Royal NavyThe National Museum of the Royal Navy.

This special imprint was available for a month, from May31st to June 30th 2016, on all the stamps with the ‘Machin’ and‘Union flag’ definitivedesigns, issued bythese kiosks.

From June 1st 2016, itwas also available fromthe last two namedkiosks installed in RoyalNavy museums (HMSTrincomalee & HMSCaroline), although, inboth cases, the nameof the museum is notprinted on the stamps.Instead of this, RoyalMail decided to just usethe identifier ‘RoyalRoyalRoyalRoyalRoyalNavyNavyNavyNavyNavy’ (see next section).

A diferencia de los sellos emitidos por el resto de quioscos,los signos de franqueo que imprimen estos dos equipos noincluyen el nombre específico del museo, sino ladenominación y el logotipo general ‘Royal NavyRoyal NavyRoyal NavyRoyal NavyRoyal Navy’, al igual queel equipo A002A002A002A002A002 instalado en The National Museum of theRoyal Navy, en Portsmouth. El HMS TrincomaleeHMS TrincomaleeHMS TrincomaleeHMS TrincomaleeHMS Trincomalee es una fragata de46 cañones de la clase Leda. Construidaen 1816-17 por la East India Company enBombay, es el único barco supervivientede Royal Navy construido en India, y elmás antiguo barco de guerra que sigue a flote en el ReinoUnido. El barco estuvo en servicio hasta 1986, realizandodiferentes funciones. A partir de 1987, el HMS TrincomaleeTrust inició la restauración de la fragata, que finalizó en2001. El barco es el principal centro de interés deHartlepool’s MaritimeExperience, unpequeño museosituado en Hartlepool,en el nordeste deInglaterra, que muestrauna recreación de unpuerto del siglo XVIII.Desde junio de 2014,el museo forma partede The NationalMuseum of the RoyalNavy.

The HMS TrincomaleeHMS TrincomaleeHMS TrincomaleeHMS TrincomaleeHMS Trincomalee is a Ledaclass sailing frigate with 46 guns.Built in 1816-17 by the East IndiaCompany in Bombay, it is the onlysurviving Royal Navy ship built inIndia, and the oldest survivingbattleship in the United Kingdom.The ship was in service until 1986. In1987, the HMS Trincomalee Trustbegan the restoration of the frigate,which ended in 2001. The ship is themain focus of Hartlepool’s MaritimeExperience, a small museum located

in Hartlepool, in the north-east ofEngland, showing a re-creation of an18th century harbour. Since June 2014,the museum became part of TheNational Museum of the Royal Navy.

Only the machinenumber printed on the code at the bottom of thestamp defines the origin of the stamp.

With just a few dozenvisitors to the museumeach day, the kiosk isscarcely used for ‘real’stamp sales, as shown bythe session number printedon stamps and receipts. Inshort, another bizarre RoyalMail decision, without anyjustification from a postalpoint of view. The machineis there just waiting forsome ‘philatelic change’that will attract, from timeto time, collectors anddealers, who, otherwise,would be little interested ina kiosk that issues stampsalmost identical to othermachines.

With very fewchanges,compared toprevious shows,the fair broughttogether morethan 100 stands,distributed overthe two levels ofthe centralexhibition halland the gallerybays. The booths were mainly occupied by majorinternational philatelicdealers, auction houses,and a few specialistpublications. The Royal Mailstand was located at theback of the large exhibitionhall, in front of the nationalphilatelic exhibition,organized by TheAssociation of BritishPhilatelic Societies (ABPS).

Unchanged fromprevious fairs, the ‘Post &Go’ equipment was part ofthe large Royal Mail stand,with six Intelligent AR /Royal Mail Series II philatelickiosks.

The second thematic ‘Post & Go’ series issued in 2016 wasavailable from September 14th, coinciding with the opening ofAutumn Stampex 2016. The six designs of the series featuresdifferent species of ladybirdsladybirdsladybirdsladybirdsladybirds living in Britain, one of the best-loved insects.

On the date ofissue, the new seriescould be obtained atmany of the NCRNCRNCRNCRNCRpostal kiosks installedin post offices acrossthe country, from thethree Royal MailSeries II philatelickiosks (A009A009A009A009A009, A012A012A012A012A012 &A014A014A014A014A014), installed atLondon Stampex and,for the first time, fromthe M002M002M002M002M002 kioskinstalled in the RoyalMail Mount PleasantEnquiry Office, next to the London PostalMuseum. Pre-orders were printed using theinternal-use equipment, code B001B001B001B001B001. RoyalMail released its usual presentation packwith the six designs (right image), printed bythe internal-use C002C002C002C002C002 printer.

The rolls of labels were manufactured byInternational Security Printers, and haveidentical characteristics to previous issues.The beautiful illustrations are by ChrisWormell, author of the designs for the‘Freshwater life’ series (2013) and the‘Heraldic Beasts’ series of 2015.

The new series features six ladybirds, someof them unknown to most. The seven-spotLadybird (Coccinella septempunctata) is,probably, the most popular (see maximum cards,

back cover), the fourteen-spot ladybird(Propylea quatuordecimpunctata), theOrange Ladybird (Halyzia sedecimguttata),the Heather Ladybird (Chilocorusbipustulatus), the Striped Ladybird (Myziaoblongoguttata), and the Water Ladybird(Anisosticta novemdecimpunctata).

El 20 de enero de 1936, tras lamuerte de su padre el rey Jorge V,el príncipe Eduardo subió al tronocomo Eduardo VIII. El nuevo reyabdicó pocos meses después, el 10de diciembre del mismo año, sinhaber sido coronado, y fuesucedido por su hermano Alberto,que decidió usar el nombre de Jorge VI. Duranteeste corto reinado tan sólo se emitieron cuatrosellos con su imagen; los tres primeros valoresfueron emitidos el 1 de septiembre,y el valor 1D el 14 de septiembre.Coincidiendo con el 80 aniversariode la emisión de este sello y lainauguración del Autumn Stampex2016, The Postal Museum decidióprogramar un texto especial en suquiosco ‘Post & Go +’, en recuerdode los cerca de once meses dereinado de Eduardo VIII en 1936.

On January 20th

1936, after the deathof his father KingGeorge V, PrinceEdward acceded tothe throne asEdward VIII. Thenew king abdicatedon December 10th ofthe same year,without beingcrowned, and wassucceeded by hisbrother Albert, whodecided to use the

name of George VI. During this short reignonly four stamps with Edward’s head wereissued. The first three values were issued onSeptember 1st, and the 1D on September 14th.Coinciding with the 80th anniversary of theissue of this stamp and the opening ofAutumn Stampex 2016, The Postal Museumdecided to program a special overprint in its‘Post & Go +’ kiosk, in memory of the elevenmonths of the reign of Edward VIII.

As on earlier occasions, the museumprepared a board with interesting information on the reign ofEdward VIII and the stamps issued with his head. Next to theboard, one of the only sixteen pillar boxes installed, bearing

the Edward VIII cipher.The new special

overprint was availablefrom September 14th toNovember 11th 2016. Inaddition to the usualmuseum logo, theimprint includes the text‘King Edward VIII 1936King Edward VIII 1936King Edward VIII 1936King Edward VIII 1936King Edward VIII 1936’and a graphic imagewith the royal cipher ofEdward VIII (ERI VIIIERI VIIIERI VIIIERI VIIIERI VIII -Edwardvs VIII RexImperator), designed byhimself and used in theroyal mail.



The modular ‘Post & Go +’ kiosk installed in the museum hassix printers. Usually, four of the printers are used for stampprinting and two for receipts. In September 2016, themachine issued stamps with the ‘Machin 1st Class’, ‘Machin2nd Class’, ‘Union flag’ and ‘Mail coach, 1790s’ design. Thenew special imprint was only program-med in the two‘Machin’ designs, the only ones having enough free space toallow the inclusion of longer texts and graphic images.

As usual, The postal Museum prepared special presentationpacks and first day covers, with a reduced print run and verygood acceptance by collectors.

Since 2014, Royal Mail has been commemorating the Battleof Trafalgar through a temporary overprint on the ‘Union flag’design, in some of its ‘Post & Go’ kiosks installed in Royal Navymuseums. In 2014, it was only the A002A002A002A002A002 machine installed atThe National Museum of the Royal Navy, in Portsmouth (see

article in VARIABLE 35 35 35 35 35). In 2015, they added the A005A005A005A005A005 kioskinstalled at The Royal MarinesMuseum, in Southsea (VARIABLE 39 39 39 39 39),and in 2016 there have already beenfive, the previous two plus the A006A006A006A006A006,A007A007A007A007A007 and A008A008A008A008A008 kiosks installed, a fewmonths ago, in the HMS Trincomalee,the Explosion! Museum and HMSCaroline, respectively.

Unlike the earlier years, this specialimprint, in 2016, was scheduled onemonth before the anniversary.Trafalgar Day is celebrated on October21st. However, the imprint wasavailable inkiosks fromSeptember 23rd

until October23rd 2016.

On the morning of October 24th, acareless software error, most likely causedby the introduction of the ‘CommonPoppy’ design, included the specialoverprint on the ‘Union flag’ design.

Possibly unknown to most of us, Queen Elizabeth IIcelebrates her birthday twice each year. The Queen was bornon April 21st 1926. However, the official birthday is celebratedon a Saturday in June, with a special event - the Trooping theColour. It is a ceremony of military origin performed by theregiments of the British and Commonwealth armies, in HorseGuards Parade, next to St. James’s Park, London. In 2016,Trooping the Colour was held on Saturday June 11th and hadspecial significance, as the huge military parade celebrated

the Queen’s 90th birthday.Guernsey Post decided to join this

celebration by issuing a set ofcommemorative stamps, andprogramming a special temporary text atthe GG02GG02GG02GG02GG02 ‘Post & Go’ kiosk installed atEnvoy House. From June 6th to 30th, thestamps issued with the ‘Guernsey flag’definitive design included the special

Following its participation in the World Stamp Show -NY2016 (see article in VARIABLE 41 41 41 41 41), the GG01GG01GG01GG01GG01 philatelic kiosk ofGuernsey Post was again installed at the London Autumn

Stampex 2016, together with theRoyal Mail, Jersey Post and the RoyalGibraltar Post Office equipment (see

article in this publication). During 2016,this machine was only used at threeinternational philatelic events, andhad been in operation for 16 days,in total.

The original ‘Bailiwicklife’ rolls of labels weremanufactured with aglossy surface finish,causing jammingproblems in the printersinstalled in the kiosks. Tosolve this problem, themanufacturer -WalsallSecurity Printers Ltd.- re-printed the series with thesame design, but withoutthe surface coating. Theright image shows thedifference between both editions, under a bright light, theglossy original at the left, and the dull reprint at the right.

Coinciding with the Autumn Stampex 2016 openingdate, Guernsey Post also decided to schedule a specialtemporary imprint at the GG02GG02GG02GG02GG02 kiosk installed at EnvoyHouse, Saint Peter Port, Guernsey. In this case, the imprintcommemoratesthe anniversaryof anothermajor battle,the 950th

Prince George Alexander Louis Windsor was bornon July 22nd 2013. He is the eldest child of the Duke

of Cambridge and the third in the line of succession to theBritish throne, after his grandfather Charles, Prince of Wales,and his father William, Duke of Cambridge.

The second special temporary overprint, of 2016, in theBroad Street Post Office, in Saint Helier, was available fromJuly 22nd until August 20th. In2016, this kiosk has been used onlyin four philatelic events, 18 days -Spring Stampex, Scottish Congress,World Stamp Show - NY2016 and,finally, Autumn Stampex.

The four postal administrations of the Britisharea that are currently forming the ‘Post & Go’family agree on a similar program of specialimprints for the major philatelic events, such asLondon Stampex. In Autumn Stampex 2016, forexample, the ‘flag’ designs of Royal Mail, Jerseyand Guernsey Post included a special imprintcommemorating the anniversary of the Battleof the Somme. In addition, Jersey and GuernseyPost decided to dedicate a special issue tocommemorate the 950th anniversary of theBattle of Hastings (see article in this publication). Inthe tenth century, both dependencies werepart of the duchy of Normandy, and thereforewere next to the victorious army of the Battle.

Unlike Guernsey Post, Jersey Post decided toprogram the special overprint on a six-designsthematic series, ‘The Crest of Jersey’.

The printing was only available at the JE02JE02JE02JE02JE02kiosk installed in the Broad Street post office, inSt Helier, which also includes the usualpermanent post office’s imprint ‘Broad StreetBroad StreetBroad StreetBroad StreetBroad StreetThe Battle of HastingsThe Battle of HastingsThe Battle of HastingsThe Battle of HastingsThe Battle of Hastings’ and a graphic designwith a broadsword. This temporary impressionwas available for one month only, fromOctober 14th, anniversary of the Battle, untilNovember 13th 2016.

En septiembre de 2016, el quioscofilatélico GI01GI01GI01GI01GI01 de Royal Gibraltar PostOffice (RGPO) fue nuevamentetrasladado, de forma temporal, de suubicación permanente en Gibraltar Houseal Autumn Stampex de Londres. In September 2016, the GI01GI01GI01GI01GI01 philatelickiosk of the Royal Gibraltar Post Office(RGPO) was, again, temporarily movedfrom its permanent location at GibraltarHouse to London’s Autumn Stampex. Asin earlier Stampexs, the machine wasinstalled on the ‘Post & Go Services’ stand,next to the Royal Mail, Jersey Post andGuernsey Post units.

During the four days of Stampex, andfollowing the ‘Post & Go’ joint program,the kiosk should have issued the ‘Gibraltar

Gorham in1907, Gorham’s CaveGorham’s CaveGorham’s CaveGorham’s CaveGorham’s Cave isconsidered to be one ofthe last places inhabitedby the Neanderthals,28,000 years ago. It islocated southeast of theRock of Gibraltar, a fewmetres from theMediterranean Sea,although thousands ofyears ago it was fivekilometres from the sea.Gorham’s Cave Complex,including the Bennett’s,Hyena and VanguardCaves, and was inscribed on to the UNESCO WorldHeritage list, on July 15th 2016. In commemoration ofthe official inauguration of the Gorham’s CaveComplex, as a World Heritage Site, the GibraltarPhilatelic Bureau issued, on September 20th, a set offive stamps with different images related to theCave. Also RGPO, in response to the expectedincrease in number of visitors to the area, installed aElizabeth II lamp pedestal-mounted letter box with acommemorative plaque at Europa Point, at thesouthern end of the peninsula (right image).

From September 19th, one day earlier than planned, thenew special overprint was also available from the two postalkiosks installed in Gibraltar (GI02GI02GI02GI02GI02 and GI03GI03GI03GI03GI03), and thiscontinued until October 9th 2016. Both machines used rolls of‘Gibraltar macaques’ and ‘Year of the Monkey’ designs, andwere configured with the usual program of twelve postal

rates, three sets or‘Collectors Strips’of four values: LLLLLfor local mail andSSSSS and WWWWW forinternational mail.
