Dear Parishioners and Friends of Ascension, Today, September 8th, is actually the Nativity of Mary, the Mother of God. Since the Sunday celebration takes precedence over most feast days, the Feast of the Nativity of Mary will be celebrated tomorrow. Now that Labor Day has come and gone, it seems as though all are now beginning to get back into the new routines of school, work, and parish life. Each year, during the month of September, we invite and encourage parishioners to consider being involved in some kind of parish ministry for the upcoming year. This weekend, there is a handout available in the back of the church with a list of many of the ministries that take place here at Ascension. (This list is not exhaustive.) We do this in the month of September since most are back from vacation and many new people (including college students) are finding Ascension. We wish to give an opportunity to all those who wish to serve in some way. Last year we received a very positive response. We hope that will be the case again this year. One of the reasons that being involved in parish ministry (volunteering) is so important is because it is a very beautiful way of giving back to God. Involvement in parish ministries is a way of thanking God for our blessings, jobs, and financial resources. We thank God not by simply sharing our treasure; we thank him by sharing our time and talent as well. We’d love to have you share your time and talent with our community. Although the ushers will be available after mass with these forms, please know that these forms are also available on our parish website as well. We would encourage those who are able to please fill out this form electronically. Also, in last week’s bulletin, I tried to highlight some of the events that will be taking place this fall as we begin to celebrate the 125th anniversary of our parish. We continue to plan. Our next meeting takes place, Monday, September 16th, at 6:00 PM. If anyone, in addition to those who have been coming regularly to our meetings would like to be part of the ongoing planning, please join us next Monday. Peace, Fr. Kearney

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos de la Ascensión,

Hoy, 8 de septiembre, es actualmente la Natividad de María, la Madre de Dios. Como la celebración del do-mingo toma precedencia sobre la mayoría de los días de fiesta, la Fiesta de la Natividad de María será celebrada mañana.

Ahora que el día del trabajo (Labor Day) ha venido y pasado, parece ser que todos están comenzando a rein-tegrarse en las nuevas rutinas de escuela, trabajo y vida parroquial.

Cada año, durante el mes de septiembre, invitamos y alentamos a feligreses a que consideren involucrarse en alguna clase de ministerio parroquial para el próximo año. Este fin de semana, hay un volante disponible en la parte de atrás de la iglesia con una lista de los muchos ministerios que toman lugar aquí en la Ascensión. (Esta lista no es exhaustiva). Hacemos esto en el mes de sep-tiembre, ya que la mayoría han regresado de las vacacio-nes y mucha gente nueva (incluyendo estudiantes uni-versitarios) está descubriendo a la Ascensión. Deseamos darle una oportunidad a todos aquellos que desean ser-vir de alguna manera. El año pasado, recibimos una res-puesta muy positiva. Esperamos que ése sea el caso otra vez este año.

Una de las razones que es tan importante estar involu-crado (servir de voluntario) es porque es una manera muy bella de devolverle a Dios. Involucrarse en ministe-rios parroquiales es una manera de darle gracias a Dios por nuestras bendiciones, nuestro trabajo y nuestros recursos económicos. Le damos gracias a Dios no solo con sencillamente compartir nuestro tesoro; le damos gracias compartiendo nuestro tiempo y nuestro talento también. Nos encantaría que compartieran su tiempo y talento con nuestra comunidad. Mientras que los aco-modadores estarán disponibles después de la misa con estos volantes, sepan que estos formularios también es-tán disponibles en nuestro sitio web parroquial. Alenta-ríamos a aquellos que puedan que hagan el favor de completar este formulario electrónicamente.

También, en el boletín de la semana pasada, traté de realzar algunos de los eventos que tomarán lugar este otoño cuando comencemos a celebrar el 125 aniversario de nuestra parroquia. Ascension Culinary Institute (ACI) Calling all youth, ages 10 – 21, interested in being part of the team at the Ascension Culinary Institute (ACI). This is the 12th year ACI is accepting applications for the summer/fall program. If you’re interested in cooking, experiencing new foods and culture, learning cooking techniques, being part of a team and having fun while being safe, this is the program for you. Classes began on Wednesday evening, 8/7/19 at 6:30 PM in the Ascension Center and are every Wednesday after that unless notified otherwise. Please be prompt and RSVP to let us know you are coming. Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (RICA) “He aquí, yo estoy contigo siempre, hasta el fin del mundo” (Mateo 28:20). Jesús prometió estar con nosotros siempre, y lo está. Una de las formas más importantes en las que Él está con nosotros es a través de los sacramentos. A través de los sacramentos, Cristo imparte gracia y participación en su vida divina. Lee-mos en el Catecismo: "Los fieles nacen de nuevo por el Bau-tismo, fortalecidos por el sacramento de la Confirmación, y reciben en la Eucaristía el alimento de la vida eterna". A través de los sacramentos, nuestra fe se renueva, se forta-lece, se profundiza y se nutre, como Cristo mismo continúa su presencia con nosotros. Si eres un adulto católico bautizado pero nunca hiciste tu primera comunión o confirmación; si eres cristiano de otra denominación y consideras ser católico; Si eres de otra fe o buscas fe, considera unirte a RICA en Ascensión. RICA significa Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos. Es un viaje de intercambio de fe para los adultos que están considerando convertirse en católicos o que desean recibir los sacramentos de iniciación: el bautismo, la eucaristía y la confirmación. Este viaje tiene raíces en la Iglesia primitiva. Las reuniones de RICA incluyen discusiones interactivas sobre los diferentes aspectos de la fe católica. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

“Behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) Jesus promised to be with us always, and He is. One of the most important ways He is with us is through the sacra-ments. Through the sacraments, Christ imparts grace and a sharing in His divine life. We read in the Catechism, “The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sac-rament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life.” Through the sacraments, our faith is renewed, strengthened, deepened and nourished, as Christ Himself continues His Presence with us. If you’re a baptized Catholic adult but never did your First Communion or Confirmation; if you’re Christian from an-other denomination considering becoming Catholic; if you’re from another faith or searching for faith, please con-sider joining RCIA at Ascension. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is a faith sharing journey for adults who are considering be-coming Catholic or who would like to receive the sacra-ments of initiation - Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. This journey has roots in the early Church. RCIA meetings include interactive discussions about the different aspects of the Catholic faith. Together, we can question and support each other as we seek to learn more about what it means to be Catholic. Our meetings are led by parishioners and we often have special guests who present on topics related to Christianity and Catholicism. I have been blessed to be a member of the RCIA team in Ascension parish for the past few years. Last year, 13 adults participated in RCIA at Ascension and received sacraments at the Easter Vigil. RCIA at Ascension meets every Tuesday night at 7 PM, be-ginning September 10th, 2019. Meetings last about an hour and a half and we meet in the Church rectory.
