![Page 3: 01hackshackerschile](https://reader031.vdocumento.com/reader031/viewer/2022030313/58e867391a28ab007c8b5921/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
En los últimos diez años, el
Periodismo en Internet...
1. Crea historias clásicas para publicarlas en Internet.

![Page 34: 01hackshackerschile](https://reader031.vdocumento.com/reader031/viewer/2022030313/58e867391a28ab007c8b5921/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)

It’s not about the visualization● The tracking of cell phones is a very political and prevailing topic. On
the other side it’s very personal.
● This topic shows the problem of harmonizing freedom and security of citizen and makes the people start thinking about the impact of technologies, and what kind of society we want to live in. There is a message that should make people think.
● And it is NOT about HOW the messenger looks like.
● There are thousands of beautiful visualizations out there, but most of them occlude their message. The emotional response comes mostly from the visual appeal that was created by a designer. And that is wrong! When a newspaper publicizes an important article the reader should think about the message and not about the beautiful paper, on which the article was printed.
![Page 35: 01hackshackerschile](https://reader031.vdocumento.com/reader031/viewer/2022030313/58e867391a28ab007c8b5921/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)

![Page 36: 01hackshackerschile](https://reader031.vdocumento.com/reader031/viewer/2022030313/58e867391a28ab007c8b5921/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)

It’s not about presenting● The first step is to analyze the data with some tools like Excel. During that analysis you find
information that you present in e.g. an infographic.
● But in this case there are no really good analysis tools. It’s mostly geo data so you have to use a map. But a simple Google map not tell you any story. When Malte Spitz was 500 times in range of a specific cell tower Google maps draws 500 markers at the same position. You cannot see when he was there or in what direction he was from the tower. So you need a map with a time slider and a special graphical representation for the cell towers. We created our own written in JavaScript.
● Then the next question came up: How often and when was he in e.g. Munich. So I implemented the next functionality: this small pseudo calendar at the bottom.
● In the end it was obvious that we should not pick specific information and present them. The most informative thing we had was the analysis tool itself. So we did not create an interactive information visualization which presents out results. We publicized the analysis tool itself (after we have adjusted the tool for the public a little).
● We took the tool which grew along with our journalistic work and gave it to the readers: “Here you can find the information. Find your own point of view.” … and I believe that this is a very powerful idea for the future journalism.
