SOW THE SEED Today Jesus talks about the black mustard plant. Is not our familiar yellow mustard, but a weed. Starting from the tiniest seed, it grows tall enough for birds to nest in. Jesus says that the reign of God is like this, and so are discipleship and stewardship. We start with the smallest trust in God and grow spiritually through prayer, sacraments, and religious education, which help in living less fearfully and selfishly. The use of spare time, personal skills, and finances takes on a different meaning. Those among us who have made a commitment to discipleship tell us they become more generous stewards. The more they give the more they want to give. As they cease holding on tightly to themselves and their possessions, the more blessings come their way—not solutions to all problems or sudden riches, but a deeper s e n s e o f G o d ’ s presence and t rue peace of heart.

SIEMBRA LA SEMILLA Hoy Jesús habla acerca de la planta de mostaza negra. No se trata de nuestra mostaza amarilla que nos es familiar, sino de una maleza. Comienza con la semilla más pequeñita y llega a crecer un árbol tan alto como para que los pájaros aniden ahí. Jesús dice que el reino de Dios es así, y también son así el discipulado y la corresponsabilidad cristiana. Comenzamos con una confianza muy pequeña en Dios y crecemos espiritualmente mediante la oración, los sacramentos y cuando aprendemos acerca de nuestra religión, todo lo cual nos ayuda a vivir con menos temor y egoísmo. Nuestro tiempo libre, nuestras habilidades y nuestras finanzas cobran otro significado. Aquellas personas que sabemos han hecho un compromiso con el discipulado nos dicen que se han vuelto más responsables y generosas. Mientras más dan más quieren dar. Al no dejarse aprisionar por sus propios bienes ni amarrarse en sí mismos las bendiciones no les faltan. No quiere decir que se resuelvan todos los problemas ni que se vuelvan ricos de pronto, pero sí se adquiere un sentido más profundo de la presencia de Dios y una verdadera paz del corazón.

Pope Francis reflects: “If in Baptism it’s the Holy Spirit that immerses us in Christ, in Confirmation it’s Christ that fills us with His Spirit, consecrating us His witnesses, participants in the same principle of life and of mission, according to the celestial Father’s plan.” Francis continues: “Pentecost invites us to reflect on the witness that the Spirit arouses in the baptized, putting their life in movement, opening it to the good of others. Jesus entrusted a great mission to His disciples: “You are the salt of the earth; you are the light of the world” (Cf. Matthew 5:13-16). These are images that make us think of our behavior, because the lack or excess of salt makes food unpleasant, just as the lack and or excess of light impedes our seeing. He who can truly render us salt that gives flavor and preserves from corruption, and light that

illuminates the world is only the Spirit of Christ! Jesus presents himself in the synagogue of his village as the Anointed, He who was anointed by the Spirit. Jesus is full of the Holy Spirit and is the source of the Spirit promised by the Father (Cf. John 15:26; Luke 24:49) Acts 1:8; 2:33). On the evening of Easter the Risen One breathes on His disciples saying to them: “Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22); and on the day of Pentecost the strength of the Spirit descends on the Apostles in an extraordinary way (Cf. Acts 2:1-4), as we know. The Holy Spirit, “The Breath” of the Risen Christ fills the lungs of the Church with life; and in fact the mouths of the disciples, “filled with the Holy Spirit,” open to proclaim to all the mighty works of God (Cf. Acts 2:1-11). Christian witness consists in doing only and all that the Spirit of Christ asks us, granting us the strength to carry it out.

Living Stewardship Now If you are not committed to a stewardship way of life, why not start right now? Begin small, but make your commitments and persevere with them. Give some of your free time to other people. Offer your skills to your parish or a charity. Give money to your parish regularly, and make donations to good causes you choose.

La corresponsabilidad vivida ahora Si no has hecho un compromiso de corresponsabilidad cristiana en tu vida, ¿por qué no empezar ahora mismo? Comienza poco a poco, pero haz tu compromiso y persevera. Dedícales a otras personas parte de tu tiempo libre. Ofrece tus habilidades a tu parroquia o a una obra caritativa. Dale dinero a tu parroquia regularmente y haz donaciones a las causas buenas de tu predilección.

Francisco continúa: "Pentecostés nos invita a reflexionar sobre el testimonio que el Espíritu despierta en los bautizados, poniendo su vida en movimiento, abriendo al bien de los demás. Jesús confió una gran misión a Sus discípulos: "Tú eres la sal de la tierra; tú eres la luz del mundo "(Cf. Mateo 5: 13-16). Estas son imágenes que nos hacen pensar en nuestro comportamiento, porque la falta o el exceso de sal hace que los alimentos sean desagradables, así como la falta o el exceso de luz impide nuestra visión. ¡El que verdaderamente nos puede dar sal que da sabor y preserva de la corrupción, y la luz que ilumina al mundo es solo el Espíritu de Cristo! Jesús se presenta en la sinagoga de su pueblo como el Ungido, Él que fue ungido por el Espíritu. Jesús está lleno del Espíritu Santo y es la fuente del Espíritu prometido por el Padre (Cf. Juan 15:26; Lucas 24:49) Hechos 1: 8; 2:33). En la noche de Pascua, el Resucitado sopló sobre sus discípulos diciéndoles: "Reciban el Espíritu Santo" (Juan 20:22); y en el día de Pentecostés, la fuerza del Espíritu desciende sobre los Apóstoles de una manera extraordinaria (Cf. Hechos 2: 1-4), como ya sabemos. Hechos 2: 1-11). El testimonio cristiano consiste en hacer solo y todo lo que el Espíritu de Cristo nos pide, otorgándonos la fortaleza para llevarlo a cabo.
