My concept for this project was originally including a simple element, such as a slice of pizza, next to every animal rather than expressing the features of New York within the forms of the animals. I began to think that this idea was not strong enough and so I started experimenting with different shapes and patterns to complete the forms. This led me to draw shapes of boroughs of New York, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island. I put the most effort in trying to place the boroughs in the right positions but at the same time making sure that they complete the essential parts and characters of each individual animal to clearly reveal they are what they are. My style is very easy to decipher; since the shapes of the boroughs I used are irregular and organic shapes, viewers will either recognize that it is New York or keep trying to figure out what they are until they do.
