En un mundo de apariencias y secretos a voces trans-curren los días de Regina y Fernanda. Regina es la dueña de un hotel venido a menos en un pueblo de la provincia de Buenos Aires y está a punto de perder el legado familiar y su medio de vida a causa de un problema de papeles y un poder judicial que su sobrino Enrique utilizó en su contra. Fernanda se siente ajena a esta situación y sueña con escaparse de un hogar fa-miliar triste y con una carga de ausencias.Las mujeres caminan hacia un callejón sin salida mien-tras que el nuevo huésped, Miguel, desanda viejas rutas y llega dispuesto a reencontrarse con su identidad y sus afectos.El problema es que los tres no se llegan a ver. Conviven en la fatalidad de una noche cuando sus destinos se cruzan en el hotel.El otro problema es el dinero que el viajero trae, el suyo y el de su acompañante ocasional, Gabriela, una camarera del casino al que frecuentó ni bien llegó a Buenos Aires.Regina y Fernanda se sentirán tentadas por la suerte y jugarán las cartas que les ofrece el destino sin saber realmente que cuando hay dolores, cuanto más cerca-nos más sangrientos son.

Regina’s and Fernanda’s days are part of a world of ap-pearances and shouting secrets. Regina is the owner of a gone downhill hotel in a town in Buenos Aires province. She is about to lose her family legacy and her livelihood due to a problem with some papers and a letter of authorization her nephew used against her. Fernanda feels as if she were not involved in this situation and wishes she could escape from a sad family home full of absences.While both women cannot see their way out of their pres-ent situation, the new guest Miguel is retracing his old steps and is determined to find his identity and affections again.The point is that they do not see the others. They live to-gether in a night misfortune when their destinies meet at the hotel.Another problem is the money the guest has (his cash as well as his temporary companion Gabriela’s). He met her in a casino in Buenos Aires where she used to work as a waitress.Regina and Fernanda will be both tempted by luck and play cards with their fate without realizing that the closer the sorrow is, the bloody it becomes.

A fallen leaf in the storm. Her life fluctuates between illusion and desperation. She dreams about leaving her maternal house; however, deep in her heart, she knows she cannot disas-sociate herself from her mother Regina. When insanity came, she would be carried away by the tempest. Nor strange destinies or vaca-tions or fake boyfriends will be able to break that indestructible relationship sealed in her childhood.

“Mañana será otro día”, es el lema de Regi-na. Sus días transcurren tratando de poner su vida en regla frente a las miradas de la cerrada sociedad de provincia. Convive con la ausencia de su hijo, la melancolía de haber perdido a su marido y el control enfermizo que recae en la persona de su hija Fernanda.

“Tomorrow is another day” is Regina’s mot-to. She spends her time trying to put her life in order according to the society’s narrow-minded looks in a province. She deals with her son’s absence, the melancholy of having lost her husband and the morbid control on her daughter Fernanda.

Dos obras han inspirado la idea del film. Por un lado el film noir Les diaboliques, de Henri-Clou-zot; por otro, la pieza de teatro de Albert Camus llamada Le malentendu. Me interesaba la idea de una historia que ahondara en el universo femenino. La problemática madre-hija siempre es un tema in-quietante y universal. Además estas dos historias tienen el elemento de la sorpresa que es fundamen-tal en la trama de cualquier film. En el caso de mi película, la sorpresa está dada en la forma en que estas dos mujeres se encuentran con el crimen.Más allá del aspecto narrativo necesitaba hacer esta película para derribar mitos, convenciones, juicios morales cuando se trata de abordar el mundo de mujeres. Creo que la película es valiosa por aquellas cosas sugeridas, no explícitamente dichas. Las mu-jeres llegan tarde es una película de medios tonos, que se interesa en los intersticios del alma.

Two works have inspired this movie: on one hand, the film noir Les diaboliques by Henri-Clouzot; on the other hand, the play Le malentendu by Albert Camus. I was interested in a story exploring the fe-male universe. The mother and daughter’s problems are always a disturbing universal topic. Besides, these two stories have the unexpected element which is very important in any film plot. In the case of my movie, surprise is shown in the way these two women come across with crime.Apart from the narrative aspect, I felt I needed to cre-ate this movie in order to demolish myths, conventions and moral judgments in relation to women’s world.

Desde siempre me interesé por las historias. Co-mencé escribiendo, cursé la carrera de dirección en el CERC (Centro de Experimentación y Real-ización Cinematográfica), prestigiosa escuela de cine que dependía del Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales. La teoría no me conformaba, traté de aprender de distintas voces, grandes mae-stros como José Martínez Suárez, Abelardo Castil-lo y Dody Scheuer me nutrieron, me enseñaron las idas y vueltas del oficio. Paralelamente desarrollé mi carrera como técnica en el área de dirección: ayudante, script, asistente de dirección en proyec-tos como Il Richiamo (coproducción con Italia), Mientras tanto, film de Diego Lerman; Cautiva de Gastón Biraben y tuve la suerte de ver nacer una de las películas más emblemáticas del nuevo cine argentino: Picado fino, de Esteban Sapir.Continúo día a día mi formación, me fascina el ser humano y su comportamiento. Aspiro a reali-zar películas que combinen la búsqueda estética con la sensibilidad para llegar al público a través de la emoción.

I have always been interested in stories. First I started writing. Then I studied film direction at CERC (Cin-ematographic Development and Experimentation Center) which is a prestigious film school dependant on INCAA (National Film And Audiovisual Arts Institute). Theory was not enough for me. I tried to learn from different people, well-known teachers, such as José Martínez Suárez, Abelardo Castillo and Dody Scheuer who fed me by teaching me every detail regard-ing this job. At the same time I developed my career as a director technician: assistant, script, director’s assis-tant on projects like Il Richiamo (coproduction with Italy); Mientras tanto, a movie by Diego Lerman; Cautiva by Gastón Biraben and I have been very lucky since I saw the start of one of the most emblematic movies in new Argentinean cinema: Picado Fino by Esteban Sapir. I improve my knowledge daily; I love human beings and their behavior as well. I look forward to making movies that mix the aesthetic search with sensitivity so as to move the audience through the emotions.

Desde mi pueblo natal siempre soñaba con hacer películas. Estudie realización de cine en el IDAC (Instituto de Arte Cinematográfico de Avellaneda) y allí comencé a entender la apasionante tarea del área de producción de una película. El director pu-ede hacer sus elecciones estéticas dentro del film porque existe un productor que las sostiene y las acompaña. Me encanta ser parte de ese nacimiento del film, desde el germen de una idea hasta su ab-soluta concreción. He participado en este desafío de hacer cine en Argentina en proyectos como Las mujeres llegan tarde y Un amor de Borges en el rol de productor ejecutivo. También adquirí mu-cha experiencia como director de producción en películas como: El reclamo y La mitad negada. Como jefe de producción acompañé a El destino, Cautiva, Hoteles, entre tantas otras.Conozco el oficio desde los escalafones más pequeños y estoy en estudio permanente acerca de los procesos de distribución y exhibición, pilares fundamentales al momento de cerrar el proceso industrial de una película.

In my hometown I always dreamt on making movies. I studied production at IDAC (Cinematographic Art Institute in Avellaneda) where I began to understand the amazing issue of a film production. Any director can make his aesthetic choices in a movie because there is a producer that supports and shares them. I love be-ing part of the movie origin (from the start of a mere idea to its absolute concretion). In this challenge of making movies in Argentina I have taken part on Las mujeres llegan tarde and Un amor de Borges as an executive producer. I worked as a production director on El reclamo and La mitad negada. As a chief of production I worked on El destino, Cautiva, Hoteles, among others.I know this job from the smallest rolls and I am always studying about distribution and exhibition processes (the fundamental pillars when finishing the industrial process of a movie).
