Reading challenge
1 08 Lee y escucha la historia. Luego contesta a las
preguntas.
1 What do you usually do on long bus journeys?
2 What’s your favourite animal or bird?
3 What do you want to know about a place before you
visit it?
4 What do you usually eat on a picnic?
5 What are the interesting animals or birds in your country?
2 Over to you! Do you think Matt and Ellie are going to find the anteater?
Biology fact!
Rainforests are warm, rainy forests in tropical parts
of the world. Trees grow very tall there because
they’ve got a lot of sun, light and water. More than
half of all the species
of animals, birds and
insects on earth live in
rainforests. Monkeys,
sloths, toucans, anteaters and jaguars
live in the Costa Rican
rainforests.
It’s the second day of the holiday and the Brown family are on the bus – in Costa Rica! Some people on the bus are sleeping, but Matt and Ellie can’t sleep. They’re travelling through the rainforest and the views are amazing.
‘Ellie, look!’ says Matt, excitedly. ‘Can you see that monkey, with a white face and neck?’ ‘Wow, cool!’ says Ellie. ‘I think that’s a Capuchin monkey! I read about them in the guidebook. Oh, when is this bus going to stop? We’re missing everything!’
At 12.30, the bus stops and everyone gets off for a picnic. Matt and Ellie are very happy to be outside. After lunch, Ellie pulls Matt’s arm. ‘There’s something there, near that huge tree. I saw a really long nose – I think it’s an anteater. Let’s have a look!’
Matt and Ellie start walking. Dad looks round. ‘Don’t go far, you two!’ ‘No, don’t worry,’ Matt replies.
But when they reach the tree, the anteater isn’t there. ‘Let’s walk a little more,’ says Ellie. ‘I’m sure it was somewhere near here … ’
