El espectculo sonoro y luminoso

protagonizado por los Diablos que

invaden las calles es una de las cos-

tumbres ms arraigadas de la comu-

nidad.

Catalua es una regin que disfruta demuchas tradiciones y costumbres tpi-cas y muy distintivas; una de esas tradi-ciones ms llamativas es sin duda la delos Correfocs.

Los Correfocs son un espectculo quese desarrolla por las calles de pueblosy ciudades, donde un grupo de perso-nas caracterizadas de diablos portanbengalas, petardos y todo tipo de piro-tecnia mientras que bailan, saltan y per-siguen a los espectadores de la esta.

Esta tradicin de Catalua, tambinextendida en Valencia y las Islas Balea-res, est documentada desde el sigloXII, pero no fue hasta el siglo XX cuandocomenz a celebrarse tal como la cono-

cemos hoy en da.

Los elementos ms importantes de losCorrefocs son las guras de Lucifer y la

Diablesa, y tambin las del bestiario,como por ejemplo el dragn o el cuer-vo, los cuales tambin llevan incorpora-dos algunos efectos pirotcnicos.

The show, with its sound and light

effects and starred by devils who in-

vade the streets, is one of the mostsettled customs of the community.

Catalonia is a region that enjoys manylocal and distinctive traditions and cus-toms, and the Correfocs is certainly oneof the most remarkable ones.

The Correfocs is a show that takesplace in the streets of towns and cities,where a group of people dressed asdevils carry sparklers, recrackers and

pyrotechnics all while dancing, jumpingand chasing the party viewers.

This Catalonian tradition, also celebra-ted in Valencia and the Balearic Islands,

is documented since the twelfth cen-tury, but it was not until the twentiethcentury that it was rst celebrated as

we know it today.

The most important elements of theCorrefocs are the gures of Lucifer

and the Diablesa (She-Devil) as well asthe bestiary, such as the dragon or theraven, which also have incorporatedsome pyrotechnic effects.

This show can be enjoyed during thelocal festivals of the various towns andcities in Catalonia: in Barcelona, forexample, it coincides with the MerceFestival in late September. The Correfocof Manresa is also worth mentioning, ittakes place during the local festival isheld the last weekend of August. Manylocals participate in the event, which

has become an authentic celebration, aparty transformed into a theatre perfor-mance with a choreography where de-mons and dragons dance and put on are show for more than 2 hours.

Las playas de Barcelona son uno delos reclamos tursticos ms impor-

tantes de la ciudad, ya que permiten

sita muy recomendable es acudir a unao varias de las playas que nos ofrece laciudad, y por ese motivo desde W2 Bar-celona os proponemos una sencilla rutapor las tres playas ms emblemticas.

Despus de la dosis de relax recibidaen la playa de Nova Icaria, la ruta siguerumbo al norte hasta llegar a la ltimazona de la ciudad que contacta con elmar: los baos del Frum. Este pinto-resco lugar ofrece una forma distinta dedisfrutar del mar que diere de la clsi-ca playa con arena. En ausencia de are-na, se puede acceder al agua directa-mente desde supercies pavimentadas,

mediante escaleras. Adems, cuandoel sol empieza a ponerse, podemos se-

guir visitando el parque del Frum, unaconstruccin muy ambiciosa y monu-mental que se llev a cabo con moti-vo del Frum Universal de las Culturas,celebrado en Barcelona durante el ao2004.

versity makes Barcelona a unique city, in

The Barcelona coast consists of a set

El Poble Espanyol, un recinto nico

donde se concentra el arte contem-

porneo, la arquitectura espaola, la

artesana y la gastronoma del pas.

Situado en una de las zonas ms emble-mticas de Barcelona y a pocos metrosde las fuentes de Montjuc, el Poble Es-panyol es uno de los mayores atractivosde la ciudad por el conjunto nico queofrece en cuanto a arte contemporneo,arquitectura, artesana y gastronoma enun entorno tranquilo y apacible.

El recinto fue construido en 1929, conmotivo de la Exposicin Internacional,con la idea de ser una sntesis de la ri-queza arquitectnica y cultural de Es-paa. Situado en el barrio de Sarri Sant

Gervasi, el Tur Park es una para-

da obligada para los visitantes de la

Ciudad Condal, sobre todo para los

turistas que realicen una visita a la

Plaza Francesc Maci aprovechando

la numerosa oferta de tiendas de ropa

y otros artculos que posee esta zona

de la ciudad.

El Tur Park es un parque de 2,88 hec-

treas, cuyos inicios se remontan a prin-

cipios del siglo XX, concretamente en el

ao 1912 y que celebr el ao pasado

su primer centenario de vida. Cabe des-

tacar que este singular espacio se inau-

gur como un gran parque de atraccio-

nes que contaba con tena un carrusel,

un circuito de coches elctricos, una

pista de patinaje, una pequea monta-

a rusa, un globo aerosttico y un teatro

donde se realizaban representaciones

de tteres. Por ese motivo, este recinto

se convirti en un lugar muy atractivopara divertirse y pasar una entretenida

tarde en familia.

El parque de atracciones fue abierto

y estuvo activo al pblico hasta el ao

1927, y en el 1934 se convirti en el Tur

Park, tal y como lo conocemos hoy. Su

remodelacin hizo que el parque actual

se entendiese como un parque vecinal,

sobretodo destinado para que los nios

pudieran jugar y divertirse.

En el Tur Park se encuentran zonas

verdes repletas de distintas especies de

plantas, rboles, ores y un elemento

muy signicativo del parque; las escul-

turas. La gura ms importante est si-

tuada dentro de un pequeo estanque a

pocos metros de la entrada, y est de-

dicada al famoso violonchelista cataln

Pau Casals. Adems, tambin se pue-

den encontrar el teatro y el estanque,

muy cerca de la zona infantil, cuyos co-

lumpios y estructuras de madera son el

mayor reclamo para los ms pequeos.

En su interior, se encuentran dos de

los espacios ms bellos: el estanque

ovalado rodeado de rboles y cubierto

de ninfas, y en segundo lugar, su gran

pradera, que se extiende aadiendo

mltiples tonalidades de verde al Tur

Park. Como complemento a esta bonita

vista, el parque ofrece un recorrido bo-

tnico, en el que se explican las carac-

tersticas concretas de la vegetacin y

de las especies que lo habitan.

The Tur Park occupies an area of 2.88

Los orgenes de la ciudad de Barce-

lona se remontan a pocas prehist-

ricas. Ya en el siglo VI a.C. se asen-

taron diferentes tipos de poblados

beros, en lugares estratgicos y ele-

vados para defenderse de posibles

ataques. En aquel entonces, los habi-

tantes se dedicaban principalmente a

la ganadera y a la agricultura.

Para conocer el inicio de la Barcinoromana, debemos dar un salto en eltiempo hasta el ao 10 a.C., cuando

el emperador romano Augusto la nom-br como tal. Barcino en poco tiempo,gracias a una estructura de gobierno yadministracin igual a la de Roma, seconvirti en un centro administrativoy religioso con un activo desarrollo co-mercial y econmico.

Barcino estaba estructurada a partirdel frum central, que comprenda su

edicio principal, el templo de Augus-to, situado en el punto ms elevado delMonte Tber. Hoy en da, an se pue-den visitar cuatro columnas del antiguotemplo, en la actual calle Parads, en elinterior del Centro Excursionista de Ca-talua. Evidentemente, para reforzar laseguridad de la ciudad, una muralla larodeaba, aunque dejando el cementeriofuera de los muros. Los restos de estamuralla y de las torres de defensa lospodremos encontrar en la plaza delsTraginers y en la calle Sotstinent Nava-rro, cerca de la plaza de la Catedral, laPlaza Nova. Concretamente aqu loca-lizaremos una de las puertas de la mu-

ralla, con sus dos torres de planta cir-cular, y la reproduccin de un arco delos acueductos que transportaban aguahasta la ciudad.

Tambin se conservan otros restosarqueolgicos de la antigua Barcino,como una factora de garum (una sal-sa compuesta de vsceras fermentadasde pescado, tpica de la antigua Roma)y salazn, una lavandera y tintoreray una bodega, todo ello situado en elsubsuelo del Museo de Historia de la

Ciudad, en la Plaza del Rey. Si quere-mos seguir haciendo la ruta por la Bar-celona romana, nos acercaremos a lacalle Regomir para descubrir los restosde las termas, y nalmente acudiremos

a la Plaza Vila de Madrid, donde encon-traremos la antigua necrpolis, el ce-menterio de la ciudad.

The origins of the city of Barcelona

stretches back to prehistoric times.

Already in the sixth century B.C some

Iberian villages were settled in stra-

tegic locations to defend themselves

from attacks. At that time, the inhabi-

tants were mainly engaged in farming

and ranching.

To know the origins of the Roman Bar-cino, we must take a leap in time until 10

BC, when the Roman emperor Augus-tus gave the city its name. In no time,Barcino became a religious and admi-nistrative centre, with an active develo-

pment of trade and economics, thanks

to a government structure and adminis-tration similar to those of Rome..

Barcino was structured from the Cen-

tral forum, with its main building, theTemple of Augustus, situated on thehighest point of the Mount Taber. To-day, you can still visit the four colum-

ns of the ancient temple, in the street

Paradis, inside the Centro Excursionista

(Hiking Association) of Catalonia. Ob-viously, to reinforce the security of the

city, it was surrounded by a wall, althou-

gh the cemetery was outside the walls.The remains of this wall and the defense

towers can be found in the Plaza dels

Traginers square and in the SotstinentNavarro street, near the Catedral Squa-

re, the Plaza Nova. This is where well

duction of an arc of the aqueducts that
