Education and inequality
The liberating and producing school ofsocial equality was more a desire, a program that a
realiry.Nevertheless, the faith in the liberatingschool and the own effectiveness of pedagogy student always found sources where to feeditself. The multiple experiences of ascendingsocial mobility (in special at rnomcnts of econornic, industrialization and urbanizationgrowth own of the stage of integrating Capitalism) encouraged to the belief in the virtuesand potentialities of the scholastic education. These phenomena prevented to see that whatthe school reproduces is not a static structureof inequality, but a system of social distancesor difference.
Most of the Latin American societies andin special the argentine society, the conseguences of the crisis of initial integrating capitalism live today. In the present conditionsno longer development of the capital economic human-growth can be believed in theautomatism of the seguence «growth of theproductivity-distribution of the collective entrance-well-being». Today most probable it isthan we are in the presence of a new phase ofrhe Capitalism that is excluding by nature andof whose logic we only have partial and obviously insufficient knowledge. In the new socialconditions it is difficult to continue believingin the own vir tucs of the schooling.

¿Mutaciones institucionales y/oneoliberalismo?

Institutional mutations and/orneoliberalism?
During the Seventies, it stops most of theinvestigators, the set of the scholastic problemsseerned to be due to a unique and more or lesshidden cause: the domination of class of thecapitalist societies. This was not completelyfalse, but the identification of the scholasticculture with the bourgeois culture has alsoleaded us to sorne aberrations such as, for example, and to certain impotence, since nothing could be changed of the school withoutchanging everything in the society. Today, ifcollections are not taken, the radical critic of theneoliberalism can lead ro us such towards impasses. Without doubts the present world isput under a liberal offensive, but it could nottake itself Iike the unique cause of the present problerns of the school. In rhe first placebecause this offensive is not the same one anywhere in the world and mainly because theschool is confronted with mutations and exrrernely different tests of nature and onlysorne of them must to the neoliberal policies, whereas others register in a mutation muchmore releases and deep of the same scholasticinstitution.

Methods, strategies of inquiry, andthe opening of social sciences
This essay argues that research methodscannot be absent from the contemporarydebate about the opening of disciplinaryboundaries in social sciences. In a multiple anddiverse setting, it is impossible to support aunique method as the most scientific and accurate among others. In that sense, the classicqualitative versus quantitative debate makesan interesting twist. Though the authority ofmathematical models persists, today they havenot a privileged status; the inquiry about meaning has become so authorized, pertinent anduseful perspective as the use of statistics. Al
though the claim seems ro be the integrationof methods and perspectives, it is stil1 a hardissue and an enterprise thar is not easy ro accomplish. The challenge for research methods is to make deeper the opening of socialsciences and to blur the disciplinary boundarie s in order to find more satisfying and usefulways to know the social world.
