LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

In my capacity as Executive Director of the non profit foundation “Nautical Sports School Club CEDENA Puerto Williams”, it is a real pride and pleasure, to address you, to express my gratitude for your constant support and to share the progress of our Institution through this Annual Report.

Clearly, our aim is to assist in the development of a prosperous nation, and in order to achieve this, we need youngsters with a hearty desire to conquer, capable of working in teams, to be able to develop and recognize their own talents, to be able to enjoy their freedom with responsibility and furthermore to be committed to their country.

Sailing and nautical sports in general, are a display of virtues, when practiced in teams, and through them, children are able to strengthen certain values, principles and talents, which are fundamental to build the ideals of the country we all dream of.

We started our activities in March 2014, with the clear objective to assist in the education of the children and youths of Puerto Williams, in the Commune of Cape Horn, through their participation in nautical sports, facilitating their approach to the fascinating world of sailing, instilling in them the recognition of the great advantage of being immersed in the magnificent natural environment of the Seno Lauta, the Beagle Channel and close to the mythical Cape Horn.

Without any doubts, this was an experimental process, mainly because we did not know how the children would react in this environment of freezing waters, cold winds, rain and snow almost all year around, and if they would be capable of embarking into this adventure. However, we were gladly surprised with a great participation, ending the year 2014 with more than 80 participants benefitted by the foundation. During 2015 this number rose to 120 children and youths of the Commune of Cape Horn, positioning our foundation as the southernmost free nautical school in the world.

The children and youths, who to this date are part of the CEDENA Puerto Williams family, represent the strength, courage perseverance, discipline and spirit to overcome adversity, which our Society is so much in need of. In them it is symbolized, the teamwork we perform, collaborating in their formation to become men and women of good, and why not, sportsmen and women or known navigators of our country.

We are very proud and satisfied to see how the children and youths of this commune, despite inclement weather and adversity, work constantly to overcome the obstacles that appear on their way. Together, we have learnt new lessons, which motivate us to continue working, absolutely committed with our objectives.

In closing, I wish to highlight that we have imposed ourselves some very ambitious goals for the medium and long term, with a strategic action plan for the period 2015-2018, focused on the generation of resources, to allow reaching the financial sustainability of our foundation, through private contributions, benefactor alliances, and public funding, in order to achieve the development in time. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to count on the support and commitment of all of you who wish to participate in this worthy initiative, with the aim to reach this imperative.

En mi calidad de director ejecutivo de la fundación sin fines de lucro “Club Escuela Deportes Náuticos CEDENA Puerto Williams”, es un agrado y orgullo dirigirme a ustedes para agradecerles su apoyo y compartir los avances de nuestra institución a través de esta memoria.

Nuestros objetivos, claramente, están enfocados en ayudar al desarrollo de una nación próspera y para esto sabemos que necesitamos jóvenes con el corazón bien puesto, con ganas de conquistar, capaces de trabajar en equipo, de desarrollar sus propios talentos, de disfrutar su libertad con responsabilidad y, además, estar comprometidos con su país.

La navegación a vela y los deportes náuticos, en general, son una manifestación de virtudes cuando se practican en equipo, pues los niños fortalecen ciertos valores, principios y talentos que son fundamentales para construir el país que todos queremos.

En marzo de 2014 dimos inicio a nuestras actividades con el claro objetivo de ayudar en la formación de los niños y jóvenes de Puerto Williams, de la comuna de Cabo de Hornos, a través de su participación en los deportes náuticos, para ir acercándolos al fascinante mundo de la navegación a vela, aprovechando el magnífico entorno natural en el seno Lauta del canal Beagle, cercano al mítico cabo de Hornos.

Sin duda, fue un proceso experimental, porque debíamos saber si los niños, en este entorno de frías aguas, fuertes vientos, lluvia y nieve casi todo el año, iban a ser capaces de embarcarse en esta aventura. En efecto, fuimos sorprendidos con una gran asistencia, terminando el año 2014 con más de ochenta niños beneficiados, para luego atender durante el año 2015 a 120 niños y jóvenes de la comuna de Cabo de Hornos, posicionando con ello a nuestra fundación como la escuela náutica gratuita más austral del mundo.

Los niños y jóvenes que hoy componen la familia CEDENA Puerto Williams representan la fuerza, la perseverancia, el coraje, la disciplina y el espíritu de superación que tanto requiere nuestra sociedad. En ellos está simbolizado el trabajo que realizamos como equipo para colaborar en su formación y lograr que sean mujeres y hombres de bien, y, por qué no, deportistas y navegantes para nuestro país.

Nos sentimos muy orgullosos y satisfechos de ver cómo los niños y jóvenes de esta comuna, a pesar de las inclemencias del clima, trabajan en forma constante para superar los obstáculos que se presentan. Junto a ellos hemos aprendido nuevas lecciones que nos motivan a seguir trabajando comprometidos con nuestro objetivo.

Finalmente, quiero destacar que nos hemos impuesto metas ambiciosas para el mediano y largo plazo, con un plan estratégico de funcionamiento en el período 2015-2018, enfocado en la generación de recursos que permitan alcanzar el autofinanciamiento de nuestra fundación, a través de aportes de privados, socios benefactores y fondos públicos, de manera de lograr así el desarrollo en el tiempo. Por lo anterior, es imprescindible contar con el apoyo y compromiso de todos quienes quieran sumarse a esta noble iniciativa, con la finalidad de alcanzar este imperativo.

Aproximadamente a unos seiscientos kilómetros al sur de Punta Arenas se encuentra la fundación sin fines de lucro “Club Escuela Deportes Náuticos Puerto Williams”, CEDENA PW, única en su tipo, situada en la localidad más austral del mundo.

CEDENA PW está abierto a todos los niños y jóvenes de la comuna de Cabo de Hornos y acoge a más de setenta alumnos de entre 6 y 16 años, proporcionándoles clases totalmente gratuitas de natación, navegación en kayak y navegación a vela. Ello, en un rico ambiente de camaradería y en donde, además de una sólida formación valórica, se fomentan virtudes tales como el respeto, la solidaridad, el trabajo en equipo, un sano sentido de superación y un gran aprecio por la vida deportiva y el cuidado del medio ambiente.

Approximately, some 600 kms. south of Punta Arenas, lies the Non Profit Foundation “Nautical Sports School Club Puerto Williams”, CEDENA PW, the only entity of its kind located at this southernmost site in the world.

CEDENA PW is open to all youths and children of the Commune of Cape Horn and hosts more than 74 children among the ages of 6 to 16, providing them with free swimming lessons, navigating on kayaks, and handling small sailboats in a bounteous and friendly atmosphere, where in addition to a solid value formation, attributes such as respect, solidarity, teamwork, a healthy sense of achievement, and a great appreciation for the sporting life as well as care for the environment are encouraged.

Nuestra escuela, aunque está ubicada muy al sur del mundo, con un clima muy adverso, sobre todo en invierno, posee todas las instalaciones que se requieren para enseñar y practicar deportes a vela en forma segura y cómoda para los niños.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Our School , a l though located in the southernmost settlement in the world, with extremely adverse weather conditions, in particular in Winter, counts on infrastructure with all the necessary requirements to provide a comfortable and safe environment to teach the children, so that they can learn and practice sailing sports in a safe and comfortable manner.

THE SCHOOL IS LOCATED AT THE BAY OF PUERTO WILLIMAS, IN THE SENO DE LAUTA, IN FRONT OF THE YACHTS CLUB MICALVI. IT STARTED ITS OPERATIONS IN MARCH 2014, DEFYING CLIMATIC ADVERSITY. CEDENA PW REVOLUTIONIZES THE WORLD OF NAUTICAL SPORTS AND THE SAILING ACTIVITIES IN CHILE.

LA ESCUELA ESTÁ UBICADA EN LA BAHÍA DE PUERTO WILLIAMS, EN EL SENO DE LAUTA, FRENTE AL CLUB DE YATES MICALVI, Y COMENZÓ SU FUNCIONAMIENTO EN MARZO DE 2014. DESAFIANDO AL CLIMA, CEDENA PW REVOLUCIONA EL MUNDO DE LOS DEPORTES NÁUTICOS Y LA ACTIVIDAD DEL VELERISMO EN CHILE.


La escuela posee un sistema de calefacción adecuado, camarines para niños y niñas, habilitados con duchas con agua caliente. Además, dispone de una amplia sala multiuso con cocina, donde a los niños se les proporciona una colación y reciben instrucción y formación los días en que, por las inclemencias del tiempo, no pueden navegar. Posee también un quincho techado para recibir visitas o hacer eventos con clubes de intercambio.

Nuestra escuela está habilitada con una sección administrativa y dormitorios para recibir visitas, una sala para secar los trajes, otra para almacenar los distintos implementos que los alumnos ocupan durante la instrucción, bodegas de almacenamiento, taller de reparación y todas las comodidades y requerimientos de un club a vela.

Igualmente, la edificación tiene un amplio corredor externo o terraza que permite disfrutar de una preciosa vista y protegernos de la lluvia y nieve en caso necesario.

The school premises have an adequate heating system with dressing rooms and hot showers for the students. It has an ample multi purpose meeting room with kitchen facility, where the children have their meals and receive instruction and assistance to their education processes, during the days in which the climate does not permit outdoor activities. Furthermore, it also has a covered “Quincho” or BBQ area to receive visitors or to use for exchange events with other Clubs.

Our School has an administrative area and is equipped to accommodate visitors. It has room facilities to dry the wetsuits provided to the students, as well as a room to store all equipment needed by the students in their training process. There is also storage facility, an area allocated for the repair of equipment and in general all adequate facilities needed by a sailing club.

The building has also a large external terrace, which allows a beautiful view, whilst protecting us from the rain and snow if necessary.


EMBARCACIONES

Todas las embarcaciones de CEDENA PW cumplen con los más altos estándares de calidad y con todas las normativas vigentes, además de ser las adecuadas para el tipo de instrucción que se realiza a los niños y jóvenes de Puerto Williams que quieran participar.

Asimismo, las embarcaciones están siendo revisadas por nuestros monitores permanentemente, para asegurar su perfecto estado.

CEDENA PW cuenta con un taller de reparaciones donde se realiza la mantención de las embarcaciones periódicamente.

All of CEDENA PW´s Boats comply with the highest quality standards and with all regulations currently in force, as well as being ideal for the type of training that the children and youths of Puerto Williams who wish to participate, need.

Moreover, the Boats are constantly being reviewed by the monitors, to ensure their perfect state.

CEDENA PW has its own repair shop, where maintenance of the Boats is periodically carried out.

EQUIPAMIENTO

Nuestros alumnos tienen a su disposición todo el equipamiento necesario para practicar deportes náuticos en perfectas condiciones.

El equipamiento es de la mejor calidad y de los tallajes adecuados para cada niño, lo que les permite navegar seguros y sin frío.

También contamos con material didáctico para la instrucción teórica, la que se realiza principalmente cuando el clima no permite la navegación.

The equipment is of the best quality and in all adequate sizes for each child and youth, which allows them to navigate safely and without feeling cold.

SEGURIDAD

Para resguardar la seguridad de alumnos y monitores de CEDENA PW, los instructores deben solicitar con anterioridad a la Armada de Chile el pronóstico meteorológico local y evaluar las condiciones del viento y el estado del mar, con el fin de realizar adecuadamente y sin riesgo la instrucción.

Hay un protocolo de seguridad y embarcaciones siempre disponibles para enfrentar una emergencia.Todos los monitores de CEDENA PW están capacitados con cursos de primeros auxilios dictados por la Armada de Chile.

SAFETY

To ensure the safety of the students and monitors of CEDENA PW, the instructors must request to the Chilean Naval Authorities, the local weather forecast prior to any instruction, ensuring that the wind conditions and state of the ocean, are safe, in order to carry out the instruction without risk.

There is a safety protocol in place, and always boats available in case of an emergency. All of CEDENA PW’s monitors have been trained by the Chilean Navy to provide first aid.

El territorio donde se ubica ha sido habitado desde hace más de seis mil años por el pueblo yagán.

Puerto Williams tiene aproximadamente dos mil habitantes y una parte importante son familias de funcionarios de las Fuerzas Armadas de Chile destinados a esta localidad.

CLUB DE yATES MICALvI

Cada temporada arriban a este pequeño puerto, ubicado justo al frente de CEDENA PW, veleros de todas las banderas del mundo para desde aquí iniciar viajes hacia las heladas aguas del archipiélago de Tierra del Fuego, explorar los fiordos, canales y glaciares o zarpar hacia el mítico y famoso cabo de Hornos. Puerto Williams es una localidad y puerto chileno, situado en la ribera norte de la isla Navarino, a orillas de la boca atlántica del canal Beagle. Es la capital tanto de la Agrupación de Comunas de Cabo de Hornos y Antártica como de la Provincia de la Antártica Chilena, perteneciente a su vez a la xII Región de Magallanes y la Antártica Chilena.

Se ubica entre los paralelos 54º 55” latitud Sur, y los meridiano 67º 36” de longitud Oeste. Es una zona desmembrada, con una sucesión de islas, archipiélagos y penínsulas, recortadas por una infinidad de canales y fiordos.

A pesar de que las temperaturas son frías todo el año, se encuentra enclavado entre altos bosques magallánicos. Las precipitaciones, que en invierno suelen ser en forma de nieve, están repartidas equitativamente a lo largo del año, sumando un total de 512 mm. Las heladas son frecuentes, como también el fenómeno de lluvia gélida a finales del verano.

Puerto Williams is a Chilean location and a Port, situated on the north shore of the Navarino island, on the shore of the Atlantic mouth of the Beagle Channel. It is the Capital of the Group of Communes of Cape Horn and Antarctica, as well as of the Province of Chilean Antarctica, which belongs to the xIIth Region of Magallanes and the Chilean Antarctica.

It is located between the parallels 54º 55” latitude South, and the meridians 67º 36” of Western longitude. It is a dismembered area, with a succession of islands cut by an infinity of fjords and channels.

Despite the cold temperatures all year around, it is located among high magellanic forests. The rain, which in winter turns to snow, falls evenly throughout the year, summing up to a total of 512 mm. Frosts are frequent, like freezing rain at the end of summer.

Estas clases teóricas acercan a los alumnos al mundo marítimo y su cuidado. Les enseñan las partes de una embarcación a vela, terminología náutica, nudos esenciales, meteorología y cartografía básica, aprendiendo además acerca de los vientos, instrumentos de navegación y seguridad, entre otros.

These lectures assist in getting the children closer to the sea world and the importance to take care of it. They are taught of all components of a sailing boat, nautical terminology, essential knots, meteorology and basic cartography, besides learning about the winds, navigation instruments and safety, among others.

Otra de las actividades llevadas a cabo es la incorporación de talleres náuticos en la malla curricular de la jornada escolar completa del Liceo Donald McIntyre Griffiths. Este taller contó con la participación de 48 alumnos de cuarto, quinto, sexto y séptimo básico.

Another activity which has been perfomed, is the incorporation of nautical workshops into the daily subjects taught by the local school Liceo Donald McIntyre Griffiths. This workshop gathered 48 students of fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh grade.

PRACTICAL WORKSHOPS

La formación náutica recreativa y competitiva se imparte en forma de talleres de natación, kayak y navegación a vela, siendo esta última la más importante.

Los alumnos comienzan conociendo todas las opciones y eligiendo en qué navegar de acuerdo con su preferencia, habilidades y entusiasmo. En general, intentan probar todas las alternativas, buscando especializarse en la que tienen más facilidad para lograr llegar a ser competitivos.

Los monitores se encargan de alentarlos y estimularlos para que sean constantes y avancen en el aprendizaje. Los alumnos más aventajados o que llevan mayor tiempo en CEDENA PW hacen también demostraciones para aquellos niños más pequeños o que están recién comenzando su instrucción.

Es importante destacar que cada alumno elige el ritmo de su aprendizaje de acuerdo con sus intereses y habilidades, permitiendo así que aquellos jóvenes realmente interesados logren un avance sustancial a tono con el esfuerzo y tiempo dedicado a la actividad náutica.

Nautical education, recreational and competitive, is taught in the form of swimming, kayak and sailing workshops, being the latter the most important.

The students start by getting to know all options and by selecting their preferred navigating vehicle, in accordance to their preference, abilities and enthusiasm. In general they try to test all alternatives, seeking to specialize in the one they have more facility, in order to be more competitive.

The monitors encourage them and stimulate them to persevere in their learning progress. The best students or those who have been a longer time at CEDENA PW are to show their progress to the younger ones or to those who are just starting their training.

It is important to highlight that each student does not choose the learning pace in accordance to their own interest and abilities, allowing this way that those genuinely interested, can reach a substantial progress in line with their effort and time dedicated to the nautical activity.

Esta tradicional regata tuvo que ser suspendida por mal tiempo, pues ese día las rachas superaron los 40 nudos. Se volvió a intentar el domingo, pero esta vez fue la nieve la que impidió que se llegara al agua.

This traditional regatta had to be suspended because of bad weather conditions, with strong winds over 40 knots. It was again attempted on the following day, but then it was the snow which did not permit the event taking place.

The “Month of the Sea Regatta” and the “Naval Glories Regatta” were organised by CEDENA PW and the Chilean Navy, both turning to be very important initiatives for the community of Puerto Williams, as well as for the development of the children and youths, by getting them closer to the sea through activities that will teach them essential attributes.

Todos los niños participantes fueron invitados por la Armada de Chile a visitar el mítico cabo de Hornos y a participar en la conmemoración de su descubrimiento.

The students of CEDENA PW visited the famous navigator Arved Fuchs on board of his Sailing Boat Dagmar Aaen. Fuchs successfully managed the first voyage around the world navigating in a Sailing Boat through the Arctic, besides numerous other expeditions in the North Pole.

All participant children were invited by the Chilean Navy to visit the mythical Cape Horn and to participate in the commemoration of its discovery.

La importancia de este reconocimiento reside en el impacto que ha provocado nuestra escuela en la ciudad, pese a ser tan reciente su creación. También hubo reconocimientos de parte del Círculo de Maniobras de la Armada de Chile por la labor realizada en la Comuna de Cabo de Hornos, incentivando a los niños en la navegación a vela, y por ser la escuela náutica más austral del mundo. Por su parte, la dotación de la LSG Alacalufe de la Armada de Chile hizo un reconocimiento a CEDENA PW por la camaradería y la labor realizada con los niños.

occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the location, granted a public recognition to CEDENA PW for its constant work in encouraging the children and youths of the commune to practice nautical sports. The importance of the recognition shows the real impact that our school has in the community. Our school also received the recognition of the Circle of Maneuvers of the Chilean Navy for instilling in the children the love for sailing and for being the southernmost nautical school in the world. The LSG Alacalufe of the Chilean Navy also recognised CEDENA PW for their camaraderie and for the great work performed with the children and youths of Puerto Williams.

Del 25 al 30 de enero de 2016, en el marco de la celebración de los 400 años del descubrimiento del cabo de Hornos, Cedena Puerto Williams realizó distintas actividades con niños invitados de Panguipulli, Higuerillas, de la ciudad de Hoorn en Holanda y, por supuesto, los seleccionados de Cedena Puerto Williams.

El 26 y 27 se realizó la regata internacional de la clase Optimist “400 años del Cabo de Hornos”. Ricardo Ramírez Belmar, de Higuerillas, se quedó con el 1er lugar, Joaquín Ramírez Belmar, de Higuerillas, con el 2º y Javiera Concha, de Cedena Panguipulli, obtuvo el 3º.

Todos los niños participantes y la delegación por invitación de la Armada de Chile tuvieron como premio la posibilidad de ser parte el día 29 de la ceremonia y visitar el mítico cabo de Hornos en su conmemoración.

Nuestros agradecimientos a todas personas e instituciones que hicieron realidad este sueño.

From 25th to 30th January 2016, within the celebration of the 400 years of the Discovery of Cape Horn, Cedena Puerto Williams realised a variety of activities with visiting children from Panguipulli, Higuerillas, and from the City of Hoorn in Holland, and our selected students from Cedena Puerto Williams.

On 26th and 27th January the Optimist International Regatta of the “400th anniversary of the discovery of Cape Horn” took place. Ricardo Ramírez Belmar, from Higuerillas, won the 1st place. Joaquín Ramírez Belmar, from Higuerillas, won the 2nd place and Javiera Concha, of Cedena Panguipulli, won the 3rd place.

All participating children and the foreign delegation were invited by the Chilean Navy to take part of the ceremony of the commemoration of the 400 years of the Discovery on the 29th of January, and to visit the mythical Cape Horn .

Our deepest gratitude to all the people and institutions who assisted in making this dream come true.


El peligro que se cierne sobre losnavegantes de estas latitudes estáplasmado en el monumento “Albatros”,el cual en una de sus placas de mármol señala que está destinado a:

“Honrar la memoria de los hombres de mar, de todas las naciones, que perecieron luchando contra las inclemencias de la naturaleza en los mares australes próximos al legendario Cabo de Hornos”.

The danger which stalks navigatorsof these latitudes is reflected in the

monument “Albatross“, which at oneof its marble slabs mentions, that

the monument is aimed to:

“Honor the memory of seamen of all nations, who navigated these latitudes

and perished fighting the ravages of nature in the Southern Ocean close to the

legendary Cape Horn”.

This medal was handed by CEDENA PW to those authorities present at the ceremony of the anniversary of the 400 years of the Discovery of Cape Horn. It was also given to our foreign visitors as well as to all the people who help us day after day and collaborate with us in this worthy cause.

Los países logran trascender más allá en sus relaciones diplomáticas y las intensifican a través de acontecimientos históricos. Un ejemplo de ello es el descubrimiento, realizado por William Schouten y Jacob Le Maire, del peñón que bautizaron como Kaap van Hoorn –cabo de Hornos en español− en honor a Hoorn, lugar de zarpe de la expedición holandesa de nombre Compañía Austral. De ahí nace, entonces, el primer vínculo entre el puerto holandés de Hoorn y el Cabo de Hornos en Chile, vínculo que se ha ido acrecentando con ocasión de este aniversario de los 400 años.

Countries manage to trascend diplomatic relations and enhance them through historical events. One example of this, is the discovery by William Schouten and Jacob La Maire, who named the newly discovered promontory, Kaap Hoorn (Cape Horn), in honor of the place of departure of the Dutch expedition. Thus was born the first link between the Dutch port of Hoorn and Cape Horn in Chile, link which has been increasing as we approach the anniversary of the 400 years since its discovery.

THE SISTERHOOD BETWEEN THE DUTCH PORT OF HOORN AND CAPE HORN CHILE STARTED 400 YEARS AGO.

El cabo de Hornos se destaca por su reputación de atemorizar al marino que navega por alta mar y, por otro lado, fascina al marino de tierra. Su descubrimiento envuelve además con mística y heroísmo la navegación por esas australes y peligrosas aguas.

Durante muchos años el cabo de Hornos fue paso obligatorio para el tránsito entre los dos océanos y por tanto uno de los puntos de mayor importancia en las rutas comerciales por vía marítima.

Cape Horn is known for its reputation to frighten the sailor who sails the high sea, and also fascinates the ground sailor. Its discovery also wraps in mysticism and heroism, the navigation of these southern and dangerous waters.

For many years Cape Horn was a mandatory transit passage between the two oceans, it was therefore one of the most important points on the trade routes by sea.

On 16 th May 1615 the expedition led by Willem Schouten and Jacob Le Maire departs from the Port of Hoorn in search of a new route to the Moluccas. The ships, the Eendracht and the Hoorn carry on board a total of 87 seamen.During their voyage they resupply on the island of

Texel, at Cape Green and in Sierra Leone.The first contact with South America takes place

at Puerto Deseado. The small vessel Hoorn burns down and they must continue the expedition aboard the Eendracht. On 24 th January 1616 they navigate a narrow unknown channel starboard of

Tierra del Fuego, they decide to name the port side off the coast, Tierra de los Estados. They name the passage between the two lands Le Maire Strait. There, they will see the albatrosses for the first time, which will become the symbol of these latitudes. On 29 th January, they will suddenly see a 425

meters high promontory arising amid the rough sea. It is sunset and Schouten calculates their location at 57° 48’ South. It is the end of America and he decides to name it Kaap van Hoorn, in memory of the port of departure.

Allí verán por primera vez a los albatros, que desde entonces se transformarán en el símbolo de esas latitudes.El 29 de enero verán surgir en medio del mar

embravecido un promontorio de 425 metros. Es el atardecer y Schouten calcula encontrarse a 57º 48´ Sur. Es el extremo de América y decide llamarlo Kaap van Hoorn, en recuerdo del puerto de zarpe.

Los niños fueron protagonistas dela regata más austral del mundo

Esta actividad se desarrolló en Puerto Williams y compitieron menores en categoría principiantes y avanzados en ●veleros Optimist. Esta carrera estuvo enmarcada en los festejos por el Mes de Mar.

Los niños participaron en la regata más austral del mundo en el sector de la bahía de Puerto Williams, en las embarcaciones Optimist.

E l f in de semana pasado se realizó la regata infantil más austral del

mundo. Esta competencia estuvo enmarcada en las celebraciones del Mes del Mar, y fue organizada por la Armada de Chile, donde compitieron alrededor de 18 niños de entre 8 y 12 años.

En esta competencia par t iciparon los alum-nos del Club Escuela de Depor tes Náut icos (Cedena).

Durante la jornada los competidores se midieron en dos categorías las cua-les fueron Principiantes y Avanzados.

Para Eduardo Cruz, di-rector ejecutivo del Cedena,

fue positiva la experiencia de los niños en esta rega-ta. “Esta actividad vino a coronar todos los meses de práctica en los Optimist, y los niños participaron con mucho entusiasmo en esta carrera. Este tipo de embar-cación a vela es la puerta de entrada al velerismo y los niños de Puerto Williams participan de manera acti-va en nuestra escuela. El Cedena se mantiene abier-to durante todo el año para fomentar este deporte náu-tico en los niños y jóvenes de esta zona”.
