A freestanding building, located on the edge of the town is set as some other do in this rural area: a low-rise construction with a basic geometrical configuration; rhythm and material as the most promi-nent features in the building shape.

A contemporary reinterpretation of the rural utility building, the “riu-rau” on the area of La Marina, arises from a ratio-nal consideration of the function and the construction, but also from the compre-hension of the site sensations provided by its scenery.

The Provincial Council of Alicante intro-duced in 2001 the Architecture Awards “Juan Vidal”, awarded to the works “for their quality in the construction, functio-nal resolution and aesthetical approach (firmitas, utilitas and venustas)”.

The prestigious jury of the first edition considered that the Social Centre met “the values of ideation, realisation and control” granting the Architecture Prize “Juan Vidal” 2001.

The existing characteristics of this comer-cial premises, with its main space placed at the back and a very small front facade, determine its functional and spatial orga-nization. The dinning room is shaped in accordance to the higher sloping ceiling in the main room and thus acquires its unique configuration.

The transition from outside to inside runs characterized by a succession of materials, textures, colors, light and shadow areas, and ends in a bright, airy room. The inner definition creates a unique atmosphere commensurate with the quality of the cuisine of chef, Bernd Knoller.

Between the municipalities of Benifairo de les Valls and Quartell the existing secon-dary school has been enlarged to 12 units of secondary education and 4 units of high school. The centre’s holds now 500 school places.

The courtyard is the centre of the propo-sal. It is open in its south on to the town of Benifairo, thus allowing the sight of of the most powerful highlights of the village.

Material and colour fit in well with the surrounding orange groves and red stone rocky slopes, integrating the new building with the existing centre harmoniously.

Light and space, inside, characterize the relation spaces; users, students and teachers, can find a friendly physical surrounding.

WAREHOUSE+OFFICEDistribution centre in Coslada, Madrid

The project plans a building that gathers the functional program in two volumetri-cally differentiated bodies. A wide, middle height body, with a staggered shape, solves the required storage area, while the office area is hosted in an exclusive office building with a ground floor and four upper stories. The built area is 6897 m2 above ground level, and 1752 m2 in the parking basement.

The roof structure of the warehouse is built with steel porticos with a 48 meters span, standing on a concrete perimeter wall which defines a working platform over the surrounding urbanisation level.

To improve a better resistance towards hits and scratches, all the closer walls are built with concrete precast panels.

The building is organized around a longi-tudinal axis. The concierge, the multipur-pose room and the library, open onto this large lobby. From here, corridors lead to the orthogonally set classrooms blocks. Its total floor area is 4192 m2.

More contained spaces, between the clas-srooms blocks, organized as a patios, are intended for more leisure and outdoor activities.

Exposed concrete, aluminium and glass, are the materials that resolve its cons-truction.

Light and transparency its spatial argu-ments.

The Student`s house is a multifunctio-nal building intended for the student community from the Polytechnic Univer-sity of Valencia. It provides individual and collective spaces for leisure and work, and holds various students associations. It has a built area of 5120 m2.

The building is developed in a compact ground floor and three upper floors, arranged around an exterior terrace, the unifying element of the proposal. Stag-gered volumes are displayed around it in a centripetal way and characterize its architecture.

The different areas are conected by circu-lation spaces that are gently dimensio-ned. A lobby, in the form of an interior street, crosses the building in every floor accessing the different rooms. The main stairway lays also in this space, an open linear stairway wich concentrates the interior movement of the building.

The building was designed as a singular piece of work, in accordance to the spec-tacular character of the Valencia 2007 sporting event. Its form and expression are related to a particular program, and its dimension, which was also quite preset, characterizes it as a temporary pavilion. It was thought more in accordance to the immediate requirements than as a permanent answer to this very singular site. The “Clock Building” and the Harbour Warehouse have, historically, configured the place here.

The construction has a built area of 600 m2. organized in three single volumes. It resolves a program with vestibule, in wich temporary exhibitions can take place; a main exhibition room, double sized in its dimensions from the other two, exhibits the history of the America’s cup yacht race; the third volume, identical in size to the first one, holds the event’s merchan-dising.

Small dwellings for rental intended for young people. Built area: 9800m2.

The plot has a rectangular shape with a curve directrix. It is placed on the east side of this new urbanized area, along the urban park next to the ravine of Rio Seco. This provides the site an exceptional loca-tion.

The narrowness of the street offers a slightly sloped foreshortening view of the built volume. This fact suggested the design of a complex volumetric shape with an interrupted cornice line, allowing a more singular development of the large front of the building and a more gracious street section.

A preferential orientation with singular views; the existence of a main urban space; the possibility of a special shape for the building and the street; the small size of the dwelling; its temporary use and the foreseen inhabitant type, were the main considerations in conceiving this housing project.
