Second Sunday of Easter / 2º Domingo de Pascua 3

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,We are now in the Easter Season when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus for 50 days. In the process of initiation of Catechumens, this season was a time of instruction for the newly baptized, called neophytes, in a time called the mystigogia.

This is a time for all Catholics to reflectively and prayerfully discover the full meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection in our own lives.

I am away on a Catholic Engaged Encounter this weekend with couples preparing for marriage. Next weekend Monsignor Ted Bertagni from Cross Catholic Outreach will be at OLF to speak about his charitable organization. Cross Catholic Outreach is a Catholic ministry that serves the poorest of the poor internationally by channeling aid through existing Catholic churches or Catholic ministries, cost-effectively helping the poor while advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Monsignor Bertagni was ordained a priest in 1978 in Omaha, Nebraska and invested as Monsignor in 1999. He was a Conventual Franciscan in Our Lady of Consolation Province and is presently incar-

dinated into the Diocese of Mandeville, Jamaica.

Monsignor Bertagni has an international background having studied and lived in Europe and the Caribbean. He holds STL (License in Sacred Theology) and STD (Doctorate in Sacred Theology) degrees from Sant’Anselmo, the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome. He served 20 years as a parish priest, pastor, and professor before dedicating himself fulltime to the service of the poor.

Thank you for donating the Gift of Life!/ Gracias por donar el regalo de la vida!OLF hosted a successful blood

drive on March 17. We collected 19 units of life-saving blood for Mission Hospital! Each unit is one donation and can help to save up to 3 lives. Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church has helped to save up to 57 lives!

Here is a note from Jessie Salmon from the American Red Cross - The need for blood is constant and your efforts help ensure a safe and stable blood supply is available for people in need this year. It is because of generous blood drive sponsors and donors like all of you at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church that we have helped give another chance at life to patients and their families.

Our next blood drive is scheduled for June!

parish news and eventsFinal Week - Free Income Tax Preparation at OLF/ Última Semana-Servicios de Income Tax GratisOur no cost tax preparation service is entering its final week. To date our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) team has helped lower income families in our community claim over $60,000 in tax credits. These credits help families remain in the workforce and support themselves and their children. If you or someone you know earned less than $51,000 last year, you or they may be eligible. Our site will be open this week on Tuesday from 4pm to 6:30pm and on Saturday from 9am to noon. This is the final week. An appointment is not necessary but encouraged. To schedule, contact the parish office at 492-4101.

ACROSS THE NATIONThe date for submitting comments to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on the Administra tion’s latest “proposed rule” mandating contraceptive/abortifacient coverage is April 8. Comments may be sent through the National Committee for a Human Life Amendment website at nchla.org. Click on “Action Alerts.”

On March 20, the USCCB Office of Gen eral Counsel sent in its letter on behalf of the Catholic bishops of the United States. As in the past, the Administration was urged “to reconsider this proposed course.” The letter concludes: In short, the Administration continues to propose:

(a) an unjust and unlawful mandate;

(b) no exemption or “accommodation” at all for most stakeholders in the health insurance process, such as individual employees and for-profit employers;

(c) an unreasonably and unlawfully narrow exemption for some nonprofit religious organizations, mostly houses of worship; and

(d) an “accommodation” that still requires bona fide religious employers that fall outside the narrow government definition of “re ligious employer” to fund or facilitate the objectionable coverage.
