The Pontifical Good Friday Collection
Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The
Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land.
PLEASE BE GENEROUS!!

books of the Bible. Its teachings speak loudly to those who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and their faith.
This study offers “pearls for wise living” by applying the wisdom of James to our current day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly Christian life, James offers a wealth of practical solutions for handling and even sanctifying everyday circumstances.

Cathy Duffy’s new book, Everyday Evangelism for Catholics, makes it easy for the average Catholic to share his or her faith. “Too often in the Catholic Church, we receive a call to action without direction or preparation. Cathy Duffy has stepped in to remedy the challenge of New Evangelization. Everyday Evangelism for Catholics is a
practical guide for those who wish to take this call to evangelization seriously. Clear, practical, and spiritual, this book opens the door to discipleship.”-Deacon Gerard Wallace “Cathy Duffy has provided a great toolkit for anyone who wants to share the Good News with friends and family, coworkers, neighbors and the entire world. I highly recommend Everyday Evangelism for Catholics as both profound and practical. “-Katie Dawson, Director of Parish Faith Formation, Diocese of Orange. The book is available through TAN Books, Amazon, or Catholic bookstores, but you can get a copy at the parish office for $13.
Want to be a Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process whereby new members join the Catholic Church, designed specifically for the following: • For adults who have never been baptized and who want
to inquire about the Catholic faith. • For adults who have been baptized in another
Christian tradition (Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, etc.) who want to inquire about the Catholic faith.
• For baptized Catholic adults who have not completed the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation and need more faith formation.
If you fit into any of these categories or have a friend or relative who does, please contact Mary Kay Lamarre at the Parish Office: (714) 842-3000 x123 or send an email at [email protected] The RCIA process of becoming Catholic meets on Wednesday nights from 7 PM to 8 PM in Meeting Room E. You can enter at any time during the year. All those interested in becoming Catholic must experience a full year in our church community; therefore, it is good to enter the journey as soon as possible.
If you are a baptized Catholic and you only need the Sacrament of Confirmation, you may join the Adult Confirmation process which will begin in the Fall of this year. For more information contact Mary Kay at the number above.

The following Lenten regulations are a reminder to us of our call to carry the cross and so unite ourselves more closely to Jesus. ♦Abstinence from meats is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years old and older on Good Friday. ♦Fasting is to be observed on Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. ♦In the fast of the early Church, the fast began upon rising. No meals were taken until the customary work day ended at approximately 5 p.m. A glass of juice may be taken in the morning and simple liquids during the day, e.g., water, coffee, tea. The fast ends with a brief prayer, followed by an adequate meal. For many this may work as a more natural way to fast. ♦The special Paschal fast and abstinence are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday. ♦Those who are sick, pregnant, or nursing, or whose health would adversely be affected by fasting or abstinence, should not consider themselves bound by these norms. By the threefold discipline of fasting, almsgiving and prayer the Church keeps Lent from Ash Wednesday until the evening of Holy Thursday. All of the faithful and the Catechumens should undertake the serious practice of these three traditions. Failure to observe penitential days totally or a substantial number of such days must be considered serious.
MORNING PRAYER – HOLY THURSDAY, GOOD FRIDAY AND HOLY SATURDAY 8:30 AM
Our parish community will join in prayer these mornings praying Morning Prayer, from the Liturgy of the Hours. Our praying of the Psalms together is a sign of community in the Church.
The holy oils that have been blessed by the bishop during the Chrism Mass will be placed in the ambry during Holy Thursday Morning Prayer. The oils are a reminder to us that in our sacramental life of faith, simple and ordinary elements are used to celebrate profound realities. The Oil of the Sick is used in the Sacrament of the Sick. Sacred Chrism is used at Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders; and the Oil of Catechumens is used at Baptism.
HOLY THURSDAY | APRIL 18—BILINGUAL MASS AT 7:00 PM You are invited to celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday evening at 7:00 PM. This bilingual liturgy will commemorate the Last Supper and the Institution of the Eucharist. An important element will be the washing of feet, which honors the Lord’s command to love and serve one another. At the end of the service, we will process with the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose in the Parish Hall. You are invited to remain and spend some time in adoration concluding with Night Prayer at 10 PM.
GOOD FRIDAY – CELEBRATION OF THE LORD’S PASSION
APRIL 19—2:00 PM ENGLISH, 7:00 PM SPANISH "It is accomplished; and bowing his head he gave up his spirit." Today the whole Church mourns the death of our Savior. This is traditionally a day of sadness, and prayer and is another obligatory day of fasting and abstinence. The title for this day varies in different parts of the world: "Holy Friday" for Latin nations, Slavs and Hungarians call it "Great Friday," in Germany it is "Friday of Mourning," and in Norway, it is "Long Friday."
EASTER VIGIL | SATURDAY APRIL 20—7:30 PM The Easter Vigil liturgy is the most beautiful liturgy in the Roman Catholic Church. Join us as we start in the courtyard with the lighting of the Paschal Candle at 7:30 PM. During the Mass our RCIA Elect, Catechumens and Candidates will receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist and we will all renew our Baptismal Vows. Please note that this is a lengthy liturgy and may not be suitable for young children.
EASTER SUNDAY | APRIL 21—SPECIAL MASS TIMES! The Easter celebration will continue with Masses at 7:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM in the Church in English. There will be additional English Masses in the Parish Hall at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM. Mass in Spanish will be at 2 :00 PM in the Church. There is NO 5 :00 PM Mass on Easter Sunday.
