IES Sant Adrià
Curs 2002 / 2003
C L I L
Crèdit variable de química
Llengua vehicular: anglès
Variables de 3r ESO (primer trimestre)
Alumnes implicats:12
Ens proposàvem:
enfocament CTS
treball experimental
noves tecnologies
1. Write the name of five different objects made of plastic.
2. Describe the characteristics of the material used to make a water bottle.
3. Take a look at a yoghurt and do the same.
4. Have you ever seen water pipes? They are made of a grey, hard plastic. Do you know the name? And other uses of this material?
5. Why the plastics are scientifically called polymers?
Seccions de: New concepts i Vocabulary corner
New concepts Vocabulary Corner
Estructura comú en les experiències de laboratori
Write your report:
1. Objective
2. Process
3. Results of the observation
4. Conclusions
Matching sentences
We have sentences cut in half and divide the
classroom in two groups.
Distribute the beginning of the sentences in the
first group and the endings in the second.
A student of the first group reads a sentence and,
the student on the second one that has the ending
reads it and they complete the sentence.
Example:
1 a) Programmes for recycling plastics developed much more slowly because
of the cost associated with
1 b) separating different types of plastics and producing usable recycled
products from used plastics.
2 a) Four phases are needed to successfully recycle of
2 b)any waste material: collection, sorting, reclamation, and end-use.
3 a) Public enthusiasm for recycling and state laws requiring recycling
3 b) have resulted in a dramatic increase in the collection of recycled items.
4 a) Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), widely used in sift-drink bottles,
4 b) is the most commonly recycled plastic.
5 a) The used bottles are available from retailers in states requiring
5 b) refundable deposits or from curbside pickups.
6 a) Major end-uses for recycled PET include
6 b) fiberfill for ski jackets and sleeping bags, carpet fibers, and tennis balls.
7 a) High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is
7 b) the second most widely recycled plastic.
8 a) Milk, drinks, and water jugs are
8 b) the principal source of recycled HDPR.
9 a) Some products made from recycled HDPE are
9 b) trash containers, drainage pipe, garbage bags, and fencing.
10 a) Although recycling of plastic has shown a dramatic increase in recent years, recycling companies
10 b) will not be able to increase the percentage of recycling plastics to the 50% goal by the year 2000 without significant increase in the demand for products made from recycled materials.
Matching sentences; level 2
About polymers:
1. Read the information
2. Complete the sentences
3. Mark the beginning of the sentences in red and the end in green
4. Cut the sentences in half (discussion about where to cut them)
5. Divide the classroom in two groups
6. Distribute the beginning of the sentences in the first group and the endings in the second.
A student of the first group reads a sentence and, the student on the second one that has the ending reads it and they complete the sentence.
Example:1.- The individual molecules from which polymers are made are called ....................
2.- Monomers must have a ..................................... bond in their structure if they are to participate in an addition reaction.
3.- The double bond in ethylene is converted to a .................................. bond during an addition reaction.
4.- PVC is polyvinyl chloride. It is built from the monomer ............................
5.- Stereoregulation catalysts are used to prepare synthetic ........................
6.- Three different types of polyethylene are LDPE and HDPE
a) LDPE stands for ..........................
b) HDPE stands for .........................
7.- Thermoplastic polymers can be affected by .................................. and permit to .............................. them.
8.- Thermostable polymer cannot .................. at high temperature, thus they will be use in ............................ accessories.
9.- Copolymers are obtained by .......................................................................................
10.- Addition polymerization usually needs high ....................... and ............................, and the presence of a catalyst.
Construct a story
Put together the story and give it a title
An exercise to be done by small groupsExample:
Elephants, Piano Keys, and Polymers
Recursos materials emprats
Material disponible
Informes de pràctiques
Treball teòric a l’aula
Pòsters i presentacions amb Power Point
En procés d’elaboració per poder incloure-ho en Fòrum 2004
