• Tifeo é o causante de todo este mito. Este era un xigante que Xúpiter levou ao inferno para facerlle pagar pola súa soberbia.

• Tifeo estaba enterrado baixo Sicilia e de cando en vez este tentaba liberarse facendo mover así o chan da illa e quebrando a terra.

• Cada vez que Tifeo facía vibrar a terra, Plutón saía preocupado porque non quería que se fixese unha fenda tan grande como para que puidese pasar a luz do sol ao inframundo.

• Nunha desas visitas de Plutón por Sicilia quedou prendado da beleza de Proserpina, á que viu preto do río.

• E aínda que as ninfas o intentaron impedir, Plutón raptou a Proserpina.

• Ceres, a nai de Proserpina, cando se deu conta da súa falta, comezou a gritar desconsolada na súa busca.

• Foi ao río onde adoitaba estar a súa filla e alí atopou o cinto dourado que levaba Proserpina o día do rapto.

• Ceres, como deusa da terra, estaba moi enfadada co mundo porque non lle dicía onde estaba a súa filla.

• Desta maneira, caeu unha maldición sobre a terra que fixo que as selvas fosen desertos, os mares se convertesen en xeo, e a fame comezou a propagarse polos pobos e cidades.

• Xúpiter, como pai de todos os deuses, tiña que facer algo porque Ceres o ameazara con acabar coa vida da terra. Así, Xúpiter enfrontábase a Plutón pedíndolle que lle devolvese a Ceres a súa filla.

• Plutón non estaba moi convencido e, como é típico dos deuses, fixo un trato co que puidese saír beneficiado.

• Plutón vira a Poserpina comer os froitos do inferno, seis sementes de granada. Polo tanto, díxolle que se comese eses froitos nunca máis ía poder volver á vida normal por completo.

• Desta maneira obrigaba a Proserpina a pasar seis meses do ano coa súa nai, Ceres, e seis meses do ano con el.
• Un mes por cada semente que comera.

• Así nace a primavera. Cando Proserpina regresa coa súa nai. Esta decora a terra de froitos, follas verdes, árbores, flores…
