The work developed in this research group can be divided in two main lines: materials for energy and functionalized magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications.
• The first aspect is the search for commercially viable Li-ion and Na-ion batteries, that is, more economic, safer and longer-life batteries. The preparation of potential candidates for components of batteries includes Li or Na and transition metal oxoanions (like phosphates, fluorosulphates, etc) and Fe or Co oxides. Those materials will be synthesized at the nanoscale in order to able to obtain homogeneous and monodispersed samples. • The second one explores magnetic nanoparticles for their application in biomedicine. That is, synthesis and characterization of metallic (Pd, PdFe) and oxide (Fe3O4, Fe3-xMxO3 (M = Mn, Zn, …)) nanoparticles, which due to their dimension and the functionalization achieved by the organic capping molecules renders them biocompatible and biofunctional.
