the Samples.
Quality
The combination o HORIBA Scientifc high quality
optics with the advanced eatures o the CCD detector
is optimized to make the dierence. The ultra-low
noise and excellent practical dynamic range o
the CCD, associated to the constant resolution,
aberration ree, high luminosity holographic gratings
o the optical System, enable the instrument to t the
needs o Simplicity, Stability and Quality.
The high perormance CCD Sensor designed or
Scientic Spectroscopy provides excellent analytical
capabilities, obtained with minimal operator
optimisation. The powerul ACTIVAnalyst Sotware
enhances the unique capabilities o the instrumental
conguration.
ACTIVA-S is a CCD-based ICP-AES instrument based
upon A Platorm or the Future, maintaining the
Strengths o HORIBA Scientic Spectrometers while
incorporating advanced CCD (Charge Coupled Device)
technology to improve quality and fexibility.
ACTIVA-S is the perect Solution to rst-time operators
and or routine analysis with dened applications.
Simplicity
Both Spectrometer and Detector o ACTIVA-S oer
the ease-o-use that every analyst wishes. Plug-&-
Play operations and automatic optimisations help the
user to operate the instrument at its best and achieve
excellent analytical results.
Flexibility
The Total Plasma View, rom Superior vertical torch
based radial observation, combined with a light-rich,
high perormance optical System, allows the analyst to
run all types o Samples. The ull wavelength coverage,
rom 160 to 800 nm, emphasizes this fexibility: a
unique and proprietary ICP-based Spectral database
(rom S3-base: Single-element Spectra, Spectroscopic
data) leads to optimum Selectivity with

Spectrometer of high quality
The Dual back-to-back gratings (4343 / 2400 g/mm)
oer constant Spectral resolution and ull fexibility in
line Selection. The optical resolution is better than 12
pm in the 160-430 nm range and less than 22 pm in
the 430-800 nm range.
High technology electronics with Rapid ChipTM
components leads to ast data transer and
processing.
The ultra low noise CCD Solid State detector
oers high productivity analysis o multiple elements
at multiple wavelengths including Simultaneous
background correction within a spectral window.
The rst-time user rapidly becomes condent in the
use o the instrument: optimisation operations oranalytical corrections are minimised and the plasma
conguration is ready or all applications.
Spacious Sample introduction area and convenient
corrosion resistant old-down Sample tray enable
the user to run any type o Samples with dedicated
Sample introduction Systems.
Quick release and quick mount torch design
in a large and user-riendly compartment, with no
adjustmentrequired, acilitates multi-user operation
and provides excellent reproducibility.
The Vertical Torch with Superior Total Plasma View
provides optimum Sensitivity, with reduced matrix
eects, or both aqueous and organic matrices. The
Sheath gas device, with a large 3 mm i.d. injector tube,
gives unique high dissolved Solids capability (up to
30% NaCl), with excellent long-term Stability, and
minimises memory eects.
Smart Hood provides Sae, convenient extraction
with reduced installation costs.
Reliable high eciency 40.68 MHz Solid State
generator enhances the ability to handle a wide variety
o applications and improves the limits o detection.
Warm-up time is also reduced (usually less than 15
minutes).
Excellence in Spectrometer configuration with attention to Simplicity, flexibility and quality

productivity analysis o multiple elements at multiple
wavelengths including background correction within a
Spectral window. The addition o adjacent Spectral
windows allows the System to cover the entire
Spectrum, or ast Semi-quantitative analysis with
multiple wavelengths.
ACTIVA-S is equipped with an Open Electrode CCD
(Charge Coupled Device) detector with an image area
o 26.6 x 6.7 mm. This detector is perectly Suited
to the Total Plasma View confguration by efciently
collecting all the useul inormation emitted by the
plasma. Simultaneous measurement provides high
capability then provide a practical dynamic range
(Signal beore saturation-to-readout noise ratio) o 107,
with a linear response range o 5 decades minimum,
or each line.
Analysis o trace and major elements can be easily
perormed with one measurement, without requiring
dilution.
A powerul pre-Shot algorithm automatically optimizes
exposure time and column binning, which takes
advantage o the ull benet o the maximum available
dynamic range. Binning o the 256 pixel-high column
results in a decrease in read-out time with no addition
o readout noise and an increase in the linear dynamic
range. The combination o ultra low noise and binning

ACTIVAnalyst Sotware provides a data audit
trail or user and instrument operation, and an online
lab book to record daily actions perormed. Multi-level
Security permits user access levels or viewing and
editing.
The wavelength library is based on the unique and
proprietary S3-base developed by HORIBA Scientic,
eaturing not only actual wavelengths derived rom an
ICP Spectrometer, but also their Spectroscopic data
such as limit o detection, line width, etc.
Productivity is enhanced by automatic user
programmable Start up and Shutdown, minimising
argon usage.
Within a method, the user gets assistancein optimisation o line Selection and acquisition
parameters.
Productivity is urther enhanced with automated
analysis using a multi-method Sequence or Samples
o various matrices requiring dierent methods.
Barcode identication is available or Samples loaded
in a Sequence. Automatic unattended operation is
possible using the auto-Sampler with programmable
re-calibrations and QC checks with user dened
actions.
The Simultaneous measurement provides the
ability to visualise the Spectra o lines and their vicinityduring analysis, or ast conrmation o element
presence or visual identication o unexpected
Spectral intererences.
Automatic Superior Semi-quantitative analysis
o all elements is perormed rom ull Spectrum
acquisition (IMAGE) and with the Total View mode or
concentration calculation, data reporting and data re-
processing.
Urgent Samples can be inserted in an on-going
Sequence, using either the current method or any
other method.
When required, results can be optimised, using
various analytical correction methods. Results
reprocessing is
possible ater calibration or parameter changes.
The user benets o network ready results and
reporting with fexible export to a dened location orto a LIMS System.
Diagnostics data reporting allows the analyst to
control the perormance o the instrument.
SPC (Statistical Process Control) is included
or X, R, SD and histogram charts o user-Selected
Solutions.
