Constituyen cerca del 1% de las células mononucleares de la sangre
Divididas en dos subpoblaciones principales que difieren en el fenotipo y función: CD mieloides (MCD) y CD plasmocitoides (PCD).

Células más importantes en la presentación antigénica (CPA). Están involucradas en la respuesta innata y adaptativa
Las CD mieloides (MCD)
Monocitos CD14+ colocados en presencia de IL-4 y GM-CSF, logran su transformación en potentes CPA, CD14
Tienen alta expresión de moléculas involucradas en la presentación de antígenos, incluyendo a las moléculas de HLA clase II , CD80, CD86

Se distinguen de las MCD por no expresar CD11c.
Expresan altos niveles de CD123 (receptor de la IL-3) y producen grandes cantidades de INF-a en respuesta a virus.
Se ubican en los ganglios linfáticos
Funcion:-Procesamiento de antígenos y su presentación a los linfocitos T . son menos eficientes que las MCD.- Como las PCD sanguíneas expresan CD4, CCR5 y CXCR4, son susceptibles a la infección por el HIV1
