Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

1. Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container. The capacity of the transmission is 211.5liters (55 US gal).

2. Remove three panels (1) from the left side of center platform assembly (3). Repeat this step on

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained duringperformance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repairof the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containersbefore opening any compartment or disassembling any componentcontaining fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and ShopProducts Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and containfluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components.

At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil cancause burns.

Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap iscool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

3. Install Tooling (A) on center platform assembly (3). Attach a hoist and suitable lifting slings toTooling (A) .

4. Carefully remove center platform assembly (3). The weight of the center platform assembly is118 kg (260 lb).

5. Disconnect electrical harness connector (4) .

6. Remove harness clip (5) and place the harness aside.

7. Disconnect two hose assemblies (6) from the torque converter.

8. Disconnect three hose assemblies (7) from the transmission oil pump.

9. Disconnect two hose assemblies (8) from the priority valve.

10. Disconnect hose assembly (9) from the torque converter housing.

11. Install Tooling (B) on the two threaded holes in the top of the torque converter housing. Attacha hoist and suitable lifting chains to Tooling (B). The weight of the torque converter is 1295 kg(2850 lb).

12. Remove sixteen bolts (11) that fasten torque converter (10) to the engine.

13. Install 5/8 - 11 forcing bolt (12) in each of the equally spaced threaded holes of the torqueconverter.

14. Use the hoist to carefully remove torque converter (10). The weight of the torque converter is1295 kg (2859 lb).

15. Remove O-ring seal (13) from the torque converter case.

16. Remove O-ring seal (14) from the torque converter case.
