Product Description
The Delta 16-Input Controller is a Native BACnet
Application Controller that is fully programmable (via
GCL+) and communicates on an RS-485 LAN using the
MS/TP BACnet protocol. The controller includes an easy
to mount enclosure and is designed for a wide range of
monitoring applications requiring no more than 16 inputs.
A secondary LINKnet network is also supported for up to
4 Delta BACstats or other Delta LINKnet devices.
The 16 universal inputs are jumper configurable.

Indicators
LED Function Description
Power Device Power Indicator. This amber LED is lit when Control Power is
present on the device. If no Control Power
transformer is connected or the fuse (F1) is blown,
the LED will be off.
Scan CPU Scan Indicator This red LED flashes at a rate relative to the CPU
scan rate of the database within the controller.
Network RS-485 Communication Status
Indicators for NET1 and NET2.
Green LEDs flash to indicate when the device is
transmitting out the associated port, and red LEDs
flash to indicate when the device is receiving data
through the port.
Jumpers

The input type is selected by placing the jumper in the correct location on
the Input Type Selector Block. The diagram to the left shows the factory
default selection of 10 K Ω.
4-20mA ! For sensors that use a 4 to 20 mA signal.
10K ! For 10 K Ω Thermistor temperature sensors, as well as Dry
Contact binary inputs.
5V ! For sensors that use a 0 to 5 VDC signal.

DNA DERIVED NETWORK ADDRESSING (DNA)
Derived Network Addressing (DNA), which works in conjunction with
the Device Type setting and refers to the ability of inheriting portions of its
address from higher-up devices on an MS/TP network, may be enabled or
disabled via jumper setting.
Enabled ! With the jumper in place, the controller automatically obtains
portions of its overall BACnet device address (as related to Area
and possibly System) from higher-up devices on the network.
This is the preferred method of addressing the controller in a
system of Delta devices.
Disabled ! With the jumper removed, the device does not obtain any
portions of its address from higher-up devices. Instead, default
numbers are assumed (for Area and System), which may be
modified via software. This method of addressing is most useful
in OEM or multi-vendor installations where Delta products do
not exist higher-up in the network architecture, or where device
address ranges are pre-assigned for the installation.
NOTE: Whether or not Derived Network Addressing is enabled, the
Addressing DIP switches are always used to set the device MAC address.
Controller Address DIP Switches
Each individual DIP switch represents a pre-defined value, which added together forms the device address.
Mounting
The 1600 Controller is designed for mounting quickly and easily in a number of locations, usually within
packaged equipment or within another enclosure (to meet code requirements). Ensure the controller itself is a
safe distance away or in some other way protected from relief valves and other water sources.
Input Wiring
Inputs on the Delta 1600 Controllers follow the same general wiring connection diagrams as other Delta products. Refer to separate documentation for additional details.

Power
The 1600 Controller requires a 24 VAC (or 15 to 35 VDC) power supply. With an isolated Class II 24 VAC
transformer you need not ground one leg. Several controllers (not including DCUs or V2 products) may be
connected to the same transformer, providing the transformer is properly sized for all the controllers and line
losses without drawing too much current, and polarity is observed between controllers (in regards to Hot and
Neutral). Also, the transformer must ONLY be used to provide power to other MS/TP or LINKnet devices,
and no other auxiliary purposes.
MS/TP Network & Cabling Requirements
To ensure network stability and reliable communications, particularly at high speeds on the MS/TP network for a
number of devices, it is imperative that you adhere to the following network and cabling requirements:
Item Description
Cabling For MS/TP and LINKnet networks it is recommended that you use network cabling that
matches the following specifications:
• Balanced 100 to 120 ohm nominal impedance Twisted Shielded Pair (TSP) Cable
• Nominal capacitance of 16 PF/FT or lower
• Nominal velocity of propagation of 66% or higher
Topology Ensure the MS/TP network cable is installed as adaisy-chain from one device to the next.
Max. Nodes The maximum number of devices per MS/TP network without any repeaters is 50 .
Termination
Boards
A termination board (TRM-768) must be installed at each end of each MS/TP network segment
– or two per MS/TP or LINKnet network. Ensure you do not overlook this in laying out your
network architecture and ordering product.
Repeater A repeater (RPT-768) is not necessary unless more than 50 nodes will be installed on a network
or you need to extend the MS/TP network beyond 4000 ft (1220 m).
For more detailed information, including wiring, refer to the RS-485 Network Installation Guide (DOC818-11).
MS/TP Network Topology
With V3.21 firmware MS/TP devices are all configured as Subnet devices, and you also need at least one
DCU. With V3.22 firmware DSC-606 Controllers are much more capable as peer-to-peer controllers on an
MS/TP network with one System device (DCU or otherwise).

Communications Setup
The 1600 Controller communicates on an MS/TP network at a default speed of 76,800 bps. Refer to theORCAview Technical Reference Manual for further detail on configuring the MS/TP network or changing
baud rates, etc.

LINKnet Notes:
1. Ensure you use the recommended balanced cable.2. Ensure the cable is installed as a daisy-chain from one device to the
next. (1000' or 300m maximum).
3. Ensure you install MS/TP terminator boards when you have more than 1 or 2 devices.
4. Depending on the controller, up to 12 devices are supported on a LINKnet network, with limitations on how many of these may have I/O. (Refer to
the Technical Reference Manual.)
ORCAview
OWS
DFM
Ethernet Note:
If the DCU or DSC has Ethernet capability, it may exist on anEthernet network with other controllers in the same building, on whichthe ORCAview OWS could reside as well (instead of PTP).PTP
MS/TP Notes:
1. Ensure you use the recommended balanced cable.
2. Ensure the cable is installed as a daisy-chain from one device to the next (4,000' or 1220m maximum).3. Ensure you install an MS/TP terminator board (TRM-768) on each end of each MS/TP network.4. The maximum nodes per MS/TP network is 50 without a repeater, or up to 99 with at least one repeater (RPT-768).
